Posted February 2, 201114 yr Ok guys I am looking for a set of 285/85-16 tires to try out on my truck and I cant seem to find them? So who knows where I could look for these? I have searched discounttiredirect and tire rack and did a google search and nothing?:banghead:
February 2, 201114 yr you have a lift? If not, you'll need it, as they're slightly taller than a 315-75/16, or a 35" tire.. Is the 315 too wide for what you want? Other things to consider about that odd size is: [*]Cost of replacement [*]Ease of locating replacements [*]sidewall deflection with a tall, narrow tire Just food for thought. Interco does have a 34x9-16 Narrow S.S... They're a 6 ply, so roughly a Load C.. Which is really too light for the cummins 25/3500.. They also have a 34x10.50 16 LTB that's 8ply 3200lb tire, which gets a lot of praise.
February 2, 201114 yr I have been thinking about the BFG KM2 in a 255/80/17 and I believe it come in a 255/85/16 and its a 33x10.
February 2, 201114 yr Author well ISX tells me if I go to a tall narrower tire then my mpg would get better.
February 4, 201114 yr Owner Maybe like a 235/85 R16 (31" tire)... You also got to consider the weight of the tire (rotational mass) and tread face (Rolling resistance). Then if you got 3.55 gears then going taller is going to reduce the gear ratio even more... I got to admit 285/85 R16 isn't exactly user friendly...
February 4, 201114 yr Author well i would like to stay with a little larger tire and this is what came about when I asked about a gear/tire conversion.
February 4, 201114 yr I'm contemplating selling my 295-75 16 Hankook RT03s, and going with a slightly shorter/narrower tire.If i had 4.10s, it'd be a different story, but I don't, so I won't.
February 4, 201114 yr there's prolly 85+% left on them. There's only 4-5000mi at most on them.I'll get you a pic this afternoon. They're on 16x10 aluminum wheels, that will be included in the package.
February 4, 201114 yr I went with 255/85/r16 seemed like a happy medium to me, its taller and wider then the 235/85r16 but still keeps the mileage under control. one of these days I will have to actually calculate it but I know i am saving some $$ given how often i fill up.
February 5, 201114 yr I went with 255/85/r16 seemed like a happy medium to me, its taller and wider then the 235/85r16 but still keeps the mileage under control. one of these days I will have to actually calculate it but I know i am saving some $$ given how often i fill up. Can you tow heavy with the 255/85/16 ..... or the 235/85/16 for that matter ?
February 5, 201114 yr Can you tow heavy with the 255/85/16 ..... or the 235/85/16 for that matter ? mopar1973man said his 235/85's are load range E I don't do much towing so the 255/85's are load range D which is plenty for my needs.
February 5, 201114 yr The 235/85/16 is the standard dually tire size and used to be the standard 3/4 ton SRW tire too. Most of them are E rated and fine for towing heavy.Check out individual weight ratings for each tire you're looking at though. I bought a set of 285/75/16 Yokos in load range D and they were very close to the weight rating of a standard 235 in E.I took them back though because the sidewalls were way too soft and felt like driving on ice all the time. I looked hard at the 255/85/16E before settling on a 265/75/16E. I really like the tall/skinny concept but they're just so hard to find and I didn't want to buy another spare tire and didn't want to be stranded somewhere with a blowout or two and no 255/85s in stock anywhere.

February 6, 201114 yr These are what I have been thinking about and there good priced too. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?width=255%2F&ratio=85&diameter=16&x=52&y=13
February 6, 201114 yr Come on man, stick with the 315s!!:lmao:You might give Kisler Tires in Udall a call. I know it is a little ways to go but Gary is great to deal with and can get you all sorts of tires.
February 6, 201114 yr I just might do that. I do like the way the 315's look on the truck They do look good even though you lose a little in the MPG department. Once I get my speedo reset, I will be able to tell exactly how much I lost on a daily record. Just got to find a Smarty now!
