Well, here I am. !st. post for a newbie. Right off the bat, I apologize for any dumb questions that have probably been asked before. I have a 2001 I picked up a few months back from the original owner with 154,000 miles on it. I am told that it has had the lift pump replaced twice and the vp44 replaced once. The truck is all stock. It also had a dealer replaced trans at 127,000 miles as I have been told. I want to install an after market lift pump and stay as close to stock equipment as possible. After reading here and on the other forum I am thinking that the Raptor 100 in front of the stock fuel filter/fuel heater would be the way to go. I guess what I would like to know is about the relibility of this particular pump and or any pump that would allow me to keep the stock filter/heater. I will probably never hot rod this truck with any increase power mods. I would also like some suggestions as to a good quality (proven) fuel pressure gauge. Welcome to the forum Hood Latch! If you are going to stay stock. He did this for me and the above set up is what I have installed on the wife's truck. If you are going to make any mods, get the Air Dog or FASS pump and full set of A pillar guages. I recommend the Baldwin PF 7977 fuel filters. If you buy them by the case, they cost $10.16 each. They are 5 micron water separating fuel filters.

the raptor is a good pump,it come,s down to what you are going to do with the truck and your budgeti myself as many other i know of run the airdog 150 setup ,i find this to be a very good system, either way you should get a fuel gauge in there its cheap insurance and peace of mind to know where your fuel presser is ,there are many to chose from so in comes down to your preference of make and mounting styleanyway hope this helps and welcome to the forum

i'm partial to what i got... the airdog is smaller than the fass...and simple to install. just use mopar1973man's tips if you are doin' the drawstraw......in fact if you do a fass or airdog system you should think about upgrading to the triple drawstraw. then you don't got to cut the filler neck!

It will be much more volume than you need and if you run a Baldwin PF7977 in the stock filter canister you will have the same particulate filtration as the Airdog (both are 5 micron actual) and much better water separation.

I really do not buy into the whole air separation bit, and have not found any consistent third part data to verify these claims. 3. the raptor has an adjustable regulator, which can be calibrated and recalibrated if need be.4. even if i chose to do any performance mods the pup will keep up with the till i hit the 500hp mark even though it is very unlikely I would attempt that.

when i ordered mine...airdogs were on sale for $500(100s and 150s). raptors had just come out.....no one had one...and it was only $120 cheaper, besides i'm not doing alot of mods, but wanted 1/2" lines and water sep(now have 2)......after the free filter had picked up 15k miles i went to cummins great plains and bought the fleetguard 3microns for it(had to buy a case, because around here, no one but huston keeps them in stock). the water separator/prefilter, the pump, and the filters are top quality...i would not do anything but the drawstraw differently!

Hey guesswho has Fleetguard come out with a new filter for the AD. That would be good to hear. I've installed a lot of these and people are always asking me about the filters. Last I heard the best filter was a Fleetguard FS5613/FF100-3 which is a 5 micron absolute. Maybe 3 microns is the nominal rating?

Am I correct in assuming that if I use the raptor 100 in it's (simple form of installation), that it will take the place of the stock lift pump (as far as providing the adequate and consistent fuel pressure) and that it will work in conjunction with the stock fuel filter/fuel heater and that I would retain the stock draw line from the tank? edcasey, thanks for the feed back. The Baldwin PF7977 is the fuel filter that I have stocked for this truck. I've had fairly good results with Baldwin products over the years in a good number of different applications. Sort of torn between the Baldwin oil filter and the Fleetguard oil filter. Both seem to have worked well for other vehicles in the past............Hood Latch

I am using the stock filter location. Have had no problems with it. At WOT I only have a 2 psi drop. Regardless of all of our different opinions on which pump to use, we can all agree to 1 thing on this forum: a stock lift pump doesn't CUT it with our trucks! Like every one else says a fuel pressure gauge is a must as well.

If you want to keep your truck rolling and not work the hell out of it, get the Raptor. Upgrades from here are the FASS and AirDog. The higher end AirDog allows for you to adjust your fuel pressure whic is nice, but it's pay-to-play. If I was running a relatively stock truck with perhaps a module and injectors, I would do the Raptor... ALSO, WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

its not mounted in the same spot but otherwise yes you are correct it replaces the stock pup all together. the only time you would have to worry about a drawstraw is if you either have an intank pump or you are installing a 150gph pump or larger

If you get the 150 series pump then yes you end up with the drawstraw setup... http://mopar.mopar1973man.com/personal/2002/airdog-150/airdog-150.htm But even with the draw straw there is isses of sloshing. Most people complain about 1.4 tank of the fuel dropping to 0 PSI because the sucking air at the draw straw tip. But with the 100 series pumps you can hook to the stock pickup assembly. But there is issues with that too. I've find out from members here and other ofrums there is a air leak issue with that snap on connector. Some just clamp on to the plastic nipple and some have to modify the sender a bit to get tight seal.
