Has anyone had experience with the new bar-b-ques that have the porcelan coating on the grills? I just got one and a buddy of mine says that glass coating comes off and gets in your meat. Not to good if true .Should I go find some stainless grills that fit? I can have them made too by a shop close to me.BTW my new B'Que has 2 smoke stacks on it.

I have porcelain coated grates in mine. It is a Weber, 15 years old and on its second set of grates. I guess if it does come off, I ate some of it. I priced SS for mine at near $90, porcelain was less than $20, which made the choice a nobrainer for me.

Heck... My cheapy propane Weber BBQ $25 is just chrome plated steel and it lasted 3 years so far. Getting rather ugly now.

Porcelain over steel cookware was very popular in years gone by... and is still being made in both economy camp ware and premium cast Dutch ovens. Tooth veneers are made of porcelain... I had replacement porcelain grates in my old gas grill & they outlasted the grill housing (with every other year SS burner replacements). The replacement grill is just ending it's first season & came with porcelain grates.

I've never had an issue with porcelain grates. Evar.

Thanks all you guys... probably saved me at least 90 bucks not having to worry about it. My wife really likes it esp. since we never had a real B-Q before. This ones got 3 full length ss manifold burners, a warming rack, 2 smoke stacks, temperature gauge and an outside burner for doing large pots. It's not a stainless steel one which cost a lot, but, the racoons raise havoc with one if you leave it outside. So in garage it goes when not getting used.

Is this where the saying " I so mad I could eat glass" came from?
