Electrical ground issues
I am not sure how much work I would get done if I had one of those...I would give it a good try though.

Breather for valve cover?
I looked at a 24 Valve engine the other day and it dd not have the usual breather in the front. There was just a round cover there. The breather was in the same place as the 12 valves. In the side cover. Has a tube on it that would be pretty easy to just stick in the frame rail. I was pretty impressed. I might have to grab the setup. Will get pics tomorrow if need be. Regards Chris

idles at 800 and revs to 1400..thats it
I have had 2 different VP44s and 2 ECMs on this. I have trouble thinking the same very unusual problem would be in the VP44. I could be doing the testing wrong. My map sensor code comes back...low voltage or high voltage...2 codes come and go. I parked the truck for a day or 2 until I get a friend here that is a bit better with electrical than me. Regards Chris

I checked all the wires from the VP44 to the ECM they all have good continuity. So I start it and no more MAP code but no communication from ECM to module on VP44. Using the DRB3 I get some weird numbers. With the engine idling it days the pump is at 0 rpm and fuel temp in the pump is - 17 C. It's much warmer here at about 15c today. Also says injection pump battery volts are at 11.99 while the rest of the connection are at 13.99 or so.

My plan is to check each wire from connector on VP44 to its other end with my meter. I made a post it note up for each wire and where it goes to in the ECM. I am thinking perhaps it could be the yellow / pink wire that is described as DL INJ PUMP, wire # 13 to the ECM Chris

That was the issue with the MAP sensor I think....well I hope so. A little contact cleaner and a teeny tiny paint gun brush and it lo Posting with my phone ...was not a good idea. Anyway, I cleaned the Map sensor and its plug. Seems fine now. Using the DRB in a test program ...I note that it says the Injection pump is at 0 rpm. While the crank sensor and cam sensor say 780 rpm...engine was indeed idling at the time at about 780 rpm. Coolant temp is -64 C...nope its not. Engine load should not have been 100 percent either. Still thinking I have a wire or connection issue between ECM and VP44. Regards Chris

Thank you for the help. I have a direction now atleast. I will do what I can with the map sensor first and then proceed to Bus wires between the ecm and vp44...oh I ant gonna like that part lol In looking at the schematic. I am a little intimidated by it ha ha. For the possible bad ground on the map sensor...where does it ground and what color would the wire be. Thanks Map sensor plug...looks nasty to me. See if I can clean it up a bit. Chris

Another little bit of info. The oil pressure gauge goes up at least halfway when I turn key on. Do some of the other sensors read thru that sensor?

The only problem is...I am too far from you guys to learn much from it. I would love to be within an hour or 2 of some of you. The knowledge here is amazing. Chris

I am not gonna brag...cause I would have trouble changing a lightbulb without my friends...but I bought the DRB for 100 bucks a few years ago.

I am at it again. Drb3 reports p0238 and says that is map sensor voltage too high. P1689 and says no communication between ECM and injector pump module. You couldn't ask for anything to start and idle any better.

My scanner says there is a communication issue. I have previously tried the ECM from my 4x4 auto truck. Both 99s. It did not change. I put the ECM from the standard in the auto truck. It was not happy about it. Something about the anti stall feature in the standard trans ECM perhaps. The new to me ECM is from a standard.

Truck in question is a stock 99 with a 5 speed. Only mods are a fass lift pump and 1/2 inch lines. Like the title says the truck will idle fine and when you give it a bit of throttle it will jusm right to 1400. Nothing in between and nothing over. My ECM was starting to fail,,,found a good used one along with an injection pump from a cracked 53 block. Swapped it out today and still the same. Sort of seems like the APPs but my DRB3 reads the apps and it says it goes from 0 to 100 percent just fine. Any ideas... Thanks Chris

Thermostat temp?
Well, I can't explain why the 180 was in there. However with the 190 in ...I had heat coming out of the vents after 4 kilometers. I have never had heat that fast. I picked the wife up on the way home and she was impressed too. By the time I got home the IAT was 97...don't see it up there that fast either. Very Very happy I put in the thermostat...I should have listened 2 years ago. Chris

Thermostat temp?
I put in the new 190 from Napa. Looking at the old one it is date coded 02 of 99 and its a 180. Made by caltherm. Original to the engine I would say. Chris

Thermostat temp?
Even with the high teck cardboard winter front I am only getting 160 or so after a 20 to 25minute drive. Don't even ask me about cab heat....brrrrrrrr. Going to try a new Napa 190 today. Chris

Vacuum pump rebuild
Okay ...so I have a question. The vaccuum pump. Do they get lazy when they start to leak. Do you find that the vaccuum controls are a bit snappier working now. Some folks don't mind the leaks, but if it affects the operation of what it controls then it has to be a good idea. On a side note, I have so much undercoating shoved in there I can't tell if it leaks or not but it probably does. Chris

Console cup holder
A BEAR stepped on it...ain't no way I can top that one. You win. If you want a cupholder that won't make you nervous ,check out the 1 from Genos. Chris

Console cup holder
I have seen the cup holder setup in the standard transmission cab. Pretty much as good as it gets. The auto trans is not so much. I will eventually get the parts to repair mine proper. In the mean time the console cup holder works fine. Tried it out today and coffee fits great. Now if you wanna see a crappy cupholder check out 4th gen jetta...ugh. Chris

Console cup holder
After messing up the cupholder in the dash...and finding no replacement. I ordered the cup holder that fits on the front of the console from Geno's. Takes a while to get here but its a pretty nice setup for my coffee. No I don't drink and drive, but I do pick up a couple every morning for the boss and I. I don't drive the truck much in the winter but being able to use both hands to drive is better than holding 1 of those cardboard trays with 1 hand. Regards Chris...now full of caffene
