High Idle Kit Is Here
I feel kind of silly now. I was showing a friend how it works...and how about that. Worked perfect. Right off he said it would be good on the firedept mini pumper. PTO would be at a good speed. Ed If I can buy you a beer or 3 let me know. Regards Chris

High Idle Kit Is Here
Well The little box showed up today...at the post office. For another $34.90 they let me have it. That makes it a couple dollars short of $250. I will have to say that its all Canada Posts trouble. DAP seems to do their part on the shipping. I had it sent priorty mail. Apparently that means 2 mules not just 1. I got it in the truck, not difficult at all if your a little guy like me. Except... The connector for the coolant temp is not fussy about connecting. The control works in the off position gauges read normal. In the MPG mode the engine picks up its sound right away and the temp gauge in the Juice goes to 149. In the 6 cyl mode it ramps up to 1100 or so and then goes to 3cyl by itself. Adjusting the control switch does nothing after that. 3 cyl is only stopped the normal way without the switch. Don't think I did anything wrong...any ideas. Regards Chris

Weird Engine Grunt Maybe Timing?
maybe put a clear line some where in your return line so you can look at it. Be carefull of a nasty splash. Chris

Weird Engine Grunt Maybe Timing?
If that was not an electronic pump...meaning any of the old mechanical engines. I would say you have a broken /damaged injector and actual combustion pressure is going back to the tank. I am not sure its possible with this style pump. Its not good either way. With your white exhaust and now this situation, I would be thinking about pulling the injectors. Nothing but your time and a few O-rings at best. At worst you need injectors. Regards Chris

Edge Jwa
I will try to put a picture of the Edge monitor on here (actually the Missus will ) I thought I had it set like Mikes for the best fuel economy. After reading the replys I am thinking I have it set backwards. Any thoughts, besides I am a goof...would be welcome. Regards Chris

Weird Engine Grunt Maybe Timing?
In my old caterpillar engines...white smoke is raw fuel in a cold engine. Not sure if that helps you with a 50 year newer engine Chris

Edge Jwa
In that case I have mine backwards. The screen shows 3 and the sub level is 5. For best economy I should switch them. I used to leave it on 2x2...worked okay but not as good on fuel as I would like For the last tank of fuel I was on 5x5 and drove very carefull...I had the % throttle on display and was carefull to keep it low. Mileage was a bit better. Regards Chris
-
Edge Jwa
Thank you. I have mine set the same 5x3...I think. 3 is the number that is always on the screen in the corner. 5 is the sublevel? Perhaps I am doing it wrong. Regards Chris

Edge Jwa
Hello again Michael...I notice you are very carefull with you truck and have a similar rig to many of us. Would you consider telling us the settings that you use with your Edge. I am hoping my IAT fooler comes this week so I can install it this weekend. My Boss made an 800 Km trip last week with his Ford . I am really hoping I can do better fuel mileage when I do the same trip next week. I already drive like your Nanny. thanks Chris

Edge Jwa
Somewhere I looked over a write up that I think Mike wrote or fixed up about what the settings on the Edge did. Explained about each setting and its affect on fuel and timing. Of course I can't find it now and did not copy it. Could someone point it out to me . Regards Chris

Anybody Running Dap Injectors?
You are so bad...LOL here I am lusting after injectors and reading everything there is about them. Have been talking with the folks from DAP and pretty much settled on the +60 ones. Should be a nice match for my truck. Thanks Chris

Anybody Running Dap Injectors?
I am really thinking about the RV275s. The extra zoom zoom is always nice but the mileage is what I have been thinking about. The pricing seems very reasonable too. Especially when friends with other brand trucks tell me how much money they spent because their injectors failed. My truck has 150 k on it so it should be good for a while but I am thinking it will live longer if I look after it. I do see a bit of white/grey haze when starting cold, so maybe the injectors are at their limit. Regards Chris

High Idle Kit Is Here
After many hours questioning myself over which one to get...I decided on the cubby hole mount. Of course 5 minutes after placing the order I was looking at other candy. Its hard not to to buy stuff. I will put a pic or 2 up when I put it in the dash. I appreciate everyones write ups and descriptions of their own situation. Regards Chris

Anybody Rebuild Their Own Engines?
Thanks for checking out the cam for me Socal. The numbers for the parts seem pretty good to me. Here in Nova Scotia they would charge you that much for a picture of the parts. Regards Chris

High Idle Kit Is Here
Without sounding like a bigger goof than I already am...will this work with an edge juice with attitude. They plug into the IAT if memory serves me correct. This would plug into the same harness? Regards Chris

Anybody Rebuild Their Own Engines?
Yes I was wondering about the lobe on the cam for the mechanical fuel pump. If it actually is there....makes me think about the pressures those pumps produce. I have a Fass but you know we like to keep our options open Regards Chris

Tune Ups?
A friend of mine has an early 12 valve its got over 700 k on it. Its much quieter than my 24valve. He can almost sneak up on me with it. Another friend with a commonrail has a few mods done to his and its quiet but has a nice growl in there. I think with the ones I am familiar with that the 24valver is the noisiest...maybe time to set the valves again and go a bit tighter. Was 010 and 020 Regards Chris

Anybody Rebuild Their Own Engines?
I was kind of wondering if your 24v cam had a lobe for the fuel pump. Some folks say yes and some say no. In my tiny brain I wonder how a good mechanical pump would work at supplying fuel to a VP44. A new cam and maybe injectors...zoom zoom. Thanks Chris

Anybody Rebuild Their Own Engines?
Did you remove the camshaft and lifters. I think it was discussed but I don't recall if you did. I would like a pic of the cam and lifters of possible. I paid more to get a 4 cyl gas engine cleaned up and machined than you were quoted...I think thats a good price. Regards Chris

Batteries
I keep my batteries clean and once in a while put a maintainer on them. I had a couple cores so I don't know what that charge is. I do know that the 8D batteries have a 60 dollar core charge...yikes, I want 2 of these for my dozer. Chris

Batteries
I was wanting a set of batteries for my farm tractor ...and. I thought it would be a good idea to buy a new set for my truck and use the good ones already in it to put in the tractor. I told the Interstate guy that I wanted group 31...he said no way will they fit. Sold me group 27s. Same rating as the ones in the truck although a bit smaller. WOW...I thought the ones that I took out of the truck were good, not so much compared to the new ones. It sounds like that air starter in the other thread. The tractor will start with the ones from the truck but not as good as it should. Warm weather is coming and things will be better for the tractor then. Regards Chris

Disassembled A Bosch Vp44 Injection Pump
I still think Mike could rebuild his pump. Machine a new piston, punch its hole out oversize and maybe put in a sleeve. A bit of creative welding on the mounting boss and it would be good to go. Once its able to run, then get creative with some mods. Open up that fuel return path and see how pressure responds. Heck, he might even have it on his truck by now. More pics Mike or we are going to think you are holding out on us. Regards Chris

Anybody Rebuild Their Own Engines?
By the looks of that piston, your engine ate something. You need to find out what and where it came from. A bearing from the turbo? Maybe a fastener from something. Can a grid heater fail and break up? How about a pic or 2 of the head. Chris

Disassembled A Bosch Vp44 Injection Pump
Thats a challenge my friend. Build it and have fun while doing it. There are many folks here on your forum that have the talents to help you. Only real hard part is the o ring seal area in your last pic. Even that can be repaired with a skilled welders help. Chris
