Filling oil filter when changing oil?
i used the 9028. for about 60K miles. didn't see a difference in the oil reports to make the price of it worth it.

What makes 24 valves sound different from each other?
clean air, clean fuel, clean oil, it'll run a long time. my 95 has 315K 04 260K 08 195K. clean oil, clean air, clean fuel. they say not to let a diesel idle, but i have let mine idle for days at a time. drive them, idle sleep in the cab, drive some, once i slept in the cab for 8 days, it never shut off, i was sick. didnt wana move. no ill effects. the oil once to temp, it's doing the job it's designed to do, these engines like to run, all engines like to run, it's the start stop that kills them. along with bad fuel and dirty air. some with poor programming. even still wash them good in the winter as often as you can. it'll treat you right if you do the same.

What makes 24 valves sound different from each other?
i think the reason the are a little quieter with the TCW3 is the flash point fo that oil compared to diesel. i could be wrong, yes. bu i know my old 12V my old 02 that i sold, and my 04 all are a noticeably quieter with TCW3 in the tank.

What makes 24 valves sound different from each other?
i know modern deere tractor oil is designed for 500 hours of service. and there is no real reason to believe these engines will be any different.

Mike i have to agree with the guys here. you can easy go 10-15K on your oil. even idling. my 04 idles all night long on my road trips. a good 6-9 hours sometimes, my UOA are great. i change between 10-15K and anywhere form tractor supply 15-40 to walmart 15-40, and lately it's been delvac MXf2 15-40, every one has been good for longer service. TBN usually in the 6-8 range. heck i'll pay for a UOA for you to prove it for you. i'd much rather see you get more use of the modern oils than flush good money out. these engines like what ever oil meets the spec, and is on sale. they are not hard on oil at all. not like a PS is anyhow. i'd venture to sugest you can switch from the delo to walmart and save a few $, it's good oil. else my 04 woulds died years ago. i like the Devlac MXF2 as it's a CI oil. yes they reintroduced a CI oil. and so far i really like it. and the 95 12V likes it as well. Mike your manaual was written for the oils of the day, todays oils are a lot better, and you an go and should get an hour meter, 500 hours.

Modern Power Point
i put 3 of these in my mega cab, on center console one dash one rear seating area for the kids. the work great. i had to take a razor knife and kinda scrape the edges to make the holes just a tad larger. kinda like deburing them.

blew a belt, now oil leak.
yeah remind me to never do that again. sometimes i hate turning wrenches. just because i can and have the intellect to do, doesn't mean i have the desire. Most things i really like wrenching on, but this sucked. sad part is, i have to do the 95 12V next,

blew a belt, now oil leak.
yes it's easy 3 bolts, but a step i shouldn't have to do.

blew a belt, now oil leak.
the idler went out on my way back from VA, on the west side of Oklahoma city. it made no noise, no squeal, nothing. the lucky call to napa was that one they had one, and two would deliver it to the side of the road for me. limped the truck all the way back to flag, reoiling I40 as i went.

blew a belt, now oil leak.
belt was a gates belt. with just over 45K on it. the belt wasn't the issue. it was the idler pulley. Thank you 04Mach1. i'll order parts tomorrow. thanks again for the part number.

blew a belt, now oil leak.
had a few minutes to work on the truck. here's some pics. you can see one of the bearings in the first pic from the idler pulling bearing going out. then some belt that was wedged in next to crank and cover. sad part is with the amount of oil i see, i think it might be the pan leaking, as the little trails form the crank don't show much leakage. just a light seep. is it safe to pressure wash this area? people that know me call me Murphy. no place in flagstaff Arizona has this seal in stock... really? called a semi place that works on Cummins they have one, but said it won't work, as the commercial engines have 6 bolts on the crank where mine only has 4. that they are different size and would not sell it to me. so it's on order, i'll have to wait to finish this project till another time.

this is an asus latptop. and the version on linux i have installed thinks every word is misspelled. yet doesn't offer the corrected version... odd.

blew a belt, now oil leak.
i have not had a chance to look at the truck, i'm going to start gathering the tools needed. antifreeze, might get a new fan clutch while i'm at it. this one works great though. so i'm not sure i'ts needed. watching youtube videos they use a instalation tool, and wear sleeve, think i should get those? should i remove the radiator? or just try and do it with it in the truck? i hate typing on this new laptop.

blew a belt, now oil leak.
is it a two piece seal? https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/FPBTCS46174

blew a belt, now oil leak.
should i order a cummins crank seal or is a napa sufficient?
-
blew a belt, now oil leak.
what parts should i order so i'm not down for an extended time waiting for parts?

blew a belt, now oil leak.
So, driving along in my 04 all good right? no odd noises or anything. then out of nowhere the belt went kabooie, the idler pully had locked up, and well came apart at the bearing, so a luck call to a napa and parts delivered, i have a new pully, belt, crank position sensor on there way to me on the side of the road. and a massive oil leak. so now that i'm home, and a well lubed underside of my truck, i'm wondering what could be leaking. and how hard it is to take the fornt of the truck apart to replace said seals. i know youre gonna say where is the leak coming from,, i have no idea. cant tell, when i clenaed it and ran the truck the fan blows oil everwhere. so am i looking at gear cover reseal, simple crank seal.? how hard are these to reseal. what elses could it be? crack somewhere in the front case? this sucks as this truck has never had an oil leak. Do i have to take the fornt of the truck apart? or can the seals be replace without dissasembly?

Diesel "The Dog" - Rest in Peace
its always tough with the passing of a loved one. for that i'm sorry for your loss Mike. but at that, i'm so glad to be dog free now. i can jump in the truck and leave and not have to worry about someone feeding the dog, or taking it with and leaving in hot truck while i go into a store. i'm happy being dog free, for now. someday i'll get a new one, maybe.
