  1. Check your injector coppers if you are getting pressure in your tank. Have you verified this with a clear plastic hose over your return line? Undo the t- compression block and slide a piece of rubber hose over the line coming off the back of the head and check to see if the return fuel coming out has bubbles and stick your thumb over the end and feel it if you aren't seeing a lot of return fuel. 9/10 when we see this it is from people doing a poor install of their injectors. Get going to fast, inexperience it can happen. Almost every time they will argue with us after we remove the injectors then reinstall and it alleviates the problem. One truck we had come in had a surge kinda like yours. After diagnosis we found out that it was an improperly installed injector into a dirty bore, so the copper wouldn't seal. If you got time, go remove your injectors and reinstall before you blow another 500 or so on a random part. I'm just trying to help.
  2. Man I feel bad for you... Here is what you need to get, now I know you don't want to but don't you think that proper diagnosis might be smarter than guessing? Lot of different options as far the adapters go...... Snap on makes one, you can find it on their website. It works for all 24 valve 5.9s from 98 - 07. Then there is one made by miller which is another good one, it is a little heavier and better quality than the snap on. It is Miller Tool Number 9007. Costs about $150 dollars and uses a very standard quick coupler fitting commonly used on air compressors and stuff same as the snap on adapter. The gauge, you can go with whatever floats your boat. Needs to read up to 600 psi though. I got a snap on mt-33b set. $200 or so. Had it since I was 16 years old.
  3. Honestly you aren't going to get too much tougher than what you got already. Probably get you a egt gauge so you don't get your motor too hot if you tow, and keep the fluids up you wont have too many problems with the insides of the motor.
  4. Dude thanks a TON. Been busy today, haven't had a chance to get up to the barn to make a video going over all the wiring, but from the looks of it that 97 pcm will plug in. My cruise already doesn't work because I put a 99 model truck's ECM on and didn't get it flashed. Mileage is stored in the PCM though, so this beast would have no way to keep track of that because the 12 valves are mechanical.... It don't matter to me though. --- Update to the previous post... Stopped by a junkyard this evening and scored. Found a SAE 2 transmission adapter for my motor 100 bucks. So now I can go with whatever SAE 2 bell tranny floats my boat or I still have the the 6 speed adapter should I go with a dodge manual tranny... Anyway, back to this. This junkyard didn't have any dodge pickups, but I know of a good one i'll go to tomorrow and try to get the whole mess of wiring out a 12 valve truck. Got some pictures of the connectors.
  5. Hey thanks for the help both of yall, ISX and mopar I appreciate it. Ok so I am wondering about the 98 model year pickups.... They had the 12 valve in some and the new dash and interior and stuff, so surely most of the dash harness and stuff is carry over you would think. I don't know... Hey what about a picture of the PCM on your 12 valve ISX? I will get a video of all my wiring and see if I can compare it to your 12 valves later on.
  6. hahaha big rats nest aint it. Lordy. Cool well if you get a chance, i'd appreciate any assistance. Surely there is a way to get this to work.
  7. Ooooh man I appreciate it. Ok now that definitely is different than whats on this 01... Hmm.
  8. Excellent information, will be invaluable for future reference. Ok. SO... What about getting the PCM from a 12 valve truck and just eliminating the one I got now, do you think it has the same plug-ins for the truck wire harness? Or would that not probably not work?
  9. On your truck, do you have the two bale connectors up by the cowl right above the valve cover? Any chance you got a picture of that? If you are right then I oughta be able to hook the 12 valve wire harness right up to the trucks harness, and I should have some if not all the gauges up and running.
  10. anybody know what I would need to do to get the factory gauges in the cluster in my 01 to work with a 12 valve motor swapped into the truck instead of the 24 valve.
  11. The people that laugh are the ones that haven't faced down a charging dog. I feel for ya man! Normally I don't have a problem with dogs when they are sitting still wagging their tails, but when they are coming at me, I don't like........ I don't understand why people can't keep their vicious dogs locked up! If they knew they could get financially ruined in court if their little angel dog rips a hole in a man.
  12. what did they give you for your dodge? $$
  13. Little half ton my roommate has gets 18 mpg mixed. (on the right, silver truck) But it is a 2 wheel drive 5.3 L v8. He got a deal on it too! Dealer demo, leather seats, gave 18k for it with 5,000 miles. Currently he has 155k miles on it and has zero problems. Gravel roads out here are pretty bad though and the truck has the usual front end wreckage (ball joints, tie rod ends, etc) and rattles like crazy.
  14. I will definitely look into that. Yikes, I bet you have seen some crazy stuff!! I would have gotten a weapon (stick, bottle, etc) but I was so surprised by the dog's speed. Plus I was running down the middle of a gravel road, by the time I would have gotten to the ditch and looked for a beating stick, I think it would have been on me... Haha I guess! Does it like to go after strange people such as the mailman or joggers? You have dog handling mastered I think! Not really any predators down here that are to be feared, I live on about 200 acres and besides some deer, bobcat, squirrels, coyotes, and wild hogs there really isn't any critters. I have limited experience with bad dogs. Have a few wild ones that chase my cows, but a .50 bmg round stops that pretty quick. Never had one run after me or anything... Guess I will have to be more prepared next time! If it had broke the skin, I would have raised hell if I lived through it. The owners would have been 100% liable. But I didn't because it just got my shirt, and I didn't want to mess with it because these people have a big confederate flag flying in their yard and looked like they would seriously murder me, so I decided to let it be. If this was in the city or something where children were at or where they could be out, but this was about 14 miles from the nearest town or gas station.... Middle of nowhere Oklahoma.... But I think you are right!
  15. What kind of forestry operation you got? Sounds cool. I got a bunch of trees, 200 acres of them. View from outside my front porch.... I can't figure a way to make any money off of them though..... I got a 05 duramax, my allison tranny is just fine, in fact the only good part of that whole truck. Eaton g80 rear took a dump, 2 sets of injectors and melted pistons I had to replace... And don't say I don't tow heavy, I pull this a lot, loaded with hay or my tractor and baler.
  16. I hate them now! Really wish Oklahoma would become open carry legal, because I just thought about how hard it would be to conceal a pistol when I am wearing only athletic shorts and no t-shirt. Guess I might get a can of mace, no way would that thing continue if it got some mace in its disgusting face. thanks for the concern man, good to go now I think haha i was just a little freaked out when I posted, it had just happened. nasty dogs....... I definitely feel the same way after this... why someone would want to own one as a pet is beyond my comprehension. They are vermin. --- Update to the previous post... Dang that sucks............. Nasty dogs!!!
  17. newer 5.3 vortec gets a lot better mileage than 12, like 19 average with that variable displacement / active fuel management thing they do. You really get 23? My hunk 01 got like 17 maybe before I retired it to the barn for safe keeping.
  18. jesus. 9?? i am lost here, why don't you just remove your engine's cylinder head and have it checked? Why did you buy that head when it looked the way it did with all that oil in the intake and rust on it? You appear to be willing to spend money on guessing hoping that it will fix your problem, but you can't spend 2 or 300 bucks on the compression test equipment? I have the guages and all the crap to do a comp test and leak down test with if you are that pressed for cash i would be glad to loan it out, but by the time you pay for shipping to you and back to me you could buy your own!!!! :spend::spend::spend:
  19. Had a bad experience today with a pit bull... Anybody else dealt with these things? I run about 6 ~ 8 miles everyday after I get out of class, takes me about an hour usually. Today, about 4 miles in, I had the pleasure of experiencing what it feels like when confronted by a charging pit bull. Idiot owners were sitting on their front porch even, and just watched! Anyway, as soon as I saw the beast running and growling toward me I said "Oh snap," and decided it was time to reverse my direction of travel and increase speed. I guess that fueled it's fire and it decided that it was the dominant male or something. It caught up with me and grabbed my shirt, I thought it was going to go for more so I stopped and before it could let loose of my shirt I half turned my upper buddy around to my left, balled up and gave it the hardest right hand hook I could muster right on its ear, then resumed my rapid rate of speed. My punch didn't seem to phase it, it was on my heels for about 100 yards before it turned around and went home. I'd say I got lucky, this thing was not playing around. Should trigger an interesting and informative class discussion on Wednesday in Civil Procedure! Anybody else on here jog? Got any stories of close encounters with vicious hounds?
  20. $1200~$1600. Used and of course I would have no idea what kind of shape it is in, and you know how people are-they will tell you anything to sell their junk. If this tranny didn't require $10,000 dollars worth of special tools and press adaters to work on, I would be all for just buying one. Guess I will just have to take that chance when I get fed up with not having an extra truck up and running.
  21. white01 per quickserve cummins..which is a awesome site..head torque goes..57 ft.lbs....77 ft.lbs...recheck all studs at 77 ft.lbs..final torque is put your ratchet on there and go 90 degrees per stud then go to the next stud and do that til you do all the studs.hope this helps.
  22. oh i thought this was the head off your motor. No tellin whether or not this head is junk or not, yours might not have anything wrong with it either or it might.
