  1. Well.... I have one of the older units and once the first one puked, the replacements seem to last only a year and change then burn up. Would totally agree about the new company. I called them when the first pump puked and they were not only not helpful, but bordering on abusive with their comments. If I had the choice of having to deal with their sales rep I talked with or riding a bike, the bike would get the nod. He was a jerk... Only after reading online that if you had an old pump that Pure Flow would handle the warranty did I contact them. They have been wonderful to deal with on the replacements... just wish that we could find a pump that would last.
  2. You sure are having better luck than I am with it then! Thx, FT
  3. Mike,I have had the big lines for two of the bad pumps, so thats not the issue in my case.Am going to be running larger wires and a heavy duty relay sometime this week so that when the new pump arrives its ready to go. Anyone have an idea how many amps this pump is drawing? 15-20 or so? Would hope that some 14-12 gauge wires would work fine going to and from the battery and relay, then using the stock power wire for the trigger...The truck works fine on short drives, say 20 miles or less. Did a 18 mile drive today and it started out at 21 psi and when I stopped it was down to 15 most of the time, and hit 14 psi a couple of times. Let it sit for 30 minutes and drove home and the pressure stayed at 15 or higher.Last week when the pump was not dying, it would have stayed above 18 psi the entire time, even at WOT.FT
  4. Dave, Exactly what I am planning on doing. Did you use a heavy duty relay or normal version? How long has this been in operation? I am getting about 12-15 months out of these Raptor's and getting tired of swapping out pumps. Thx, FT
  5. Thanks but the second pump is backordered and not available right now, and the top one have seen some difficult threads with people having issues with them now! Am thinking about getting a new Raptor 100, wiring in a relay and heavier duty wiring to it and triggering it off of the original source. That would eliminate any chance of the lighter duty wiring on the truck being a cause of the problem. Thx, FT
  6. An update to this thread. Just lost my 3rd Raptor 100. It did the same as #2, overheating while driving and slowly losing pressure. Stop by the side of the road for 2-3 minutes and it cools down enough for another 20 miles. Just emailed Pure Flow advising them that its time to send out another replacement warranty pump... Looking at alternatives now, tired of changing the pump out as well as the truck not being reliable.FT
  7. Well I guess I commented too soon. The pump puked on a drive to the mountains yesterday. We started out holding 20 psi or so and after 30 miles or so it started dropping, the same thing that happened to my Raptor 100 15 months ago. Kept an eye on it and after a while it was all the way down to 11-12 psi and I knew I was losing a pump again. This is the 3rd replacement (one leaked, two died) pump from Pure Flow. Luckily I figured out how to limp the puppy home. You stop every 20 miles for 2-3 minutes and let the pump cool down and that gives you a good 15 psi for 20 miles. Limped the truck home and its now sitting outside... sent the email to Pure Flow today that its time for the 4th pump. Problem is that the truck is now not reliable and I cannot have that so not sure what the next step is but its very clear that we cannot depend on the Raptor 100 pump's anymore... FT
  8. I just drove up into the mountains yesterday and lost my second Raptor 100 pump. Add that to the one that was replaced by Pure Flow because it leaked diesel fuel. Guys, I am tired of changing out a Raptor every year. Any other suggestions? I have a big line kit, drawstraw and more or less the engine is stock (injectors are the only real mod) so I do not hot rod the truck. Need something reliable... and this is not. Thx, FT
  9. Finally got around to doing the mirror. Easy once you mark the location and park the truck into the sun to heat up the windshield a bit! Thanks,FT
  10. An update to everyone on this thread. The old VP was toast and finally gave up and bought a new one. No, not from DAP as they have not answered ONE of my emails or phone calls to them. Sorry guys but some of you might have had good customer service from them but not on this end. At least they could have answered ONE phone call or email, but just silence. Will never buy anything from them again and suggest you guys do the same. Got a rebuilt VP-44 from Conestoga Diesel in PA. They have an excellent reputation on the OilBurners board and a friend of mine knows the owner Mel fairly well. They gave me a 1 year guarantee and told me "if you have issues at 13-14 months, we will not abandon you like others will" so am giving them a try. Their communication is excellent, responding to emails and calls within 15 minutes and very helpful. http://conestogadiesel.com/home.html Installed the new VP yesterday morning (3.5 hours of fun in the driveway!). Truck drives great, starts hot or cold and fuel mileage is even up a bit!
  11. Well guys,An update. I poked around the engine bay while putting a new VP-44 on the truck (second one in 15 months! Grrr) and found two vacuum hoses rotten. Replaced them and now the vents in the cabin work great! Thanks for the help everyone and thanks Michael for this forum!FT
  12. Have not driven the truck in a bit (wonderful VP-44 puked again and no $$ to fix it!) but jumped in the truck over the weekend to move some big stuff around and when I turned the A/C on it worked fine but would only blow air out of the foot vents. No matter what position the climate control switch was in, air came out of the lower vents.Searching the bulletin board I did not find anything like this but did find several threads about the vent system being controlled by vacuum and if you had a leak that the doors would default to the floor vents. Any hints or suggestions on this? Thx,FT
  13. Thanks guys, will give these two a try. Its now Wednesday afternoon and still no reply to my emails to DAP . So much for customer service... Thx,FT
  14. Well wanted to update the thread. No changes on this end. I received an email from DAP at 10:09 on Friday and I replied back 45 minutes later asking for more info on their "take off's" VP44's that they offered to me in the email. Then followed it up by another email at 17:25 that afternoon saying "Hey guys, Emailed the below reply at 11:00 this morning and did not hear back from anyone... No luck calling so what should I do next? Thx," I had tried to call earlier that day and no answer, then tried again later and same thing, no answer even though in the email they said please call back if you want to "get some tech support from Sterling." So far, over two business days later have not received a reply from anyone at Diesel Auto Power. Guess they do not want my business or that customer service is not their strong point. Sad thing is that I went with them at the recommendation of several posters on this forum after being told "they really take care of their customers!" Sure wish that this had been the case... Does anyone know of a company here in the states who sells a VP44 at a price normal people can afford that has a new electronics board in it? I simply cannot afford to do this every year and need something that will last a while. The truck is stuck sitting in the street now...Thx, FT
  15. John,Thanks and thats what I was thinking but your ideas help. Have done this before on other cars and did not know if the Dodge was any different.I mark things up then glue it on and put a strong magnet on the outside of the windshield with a metal plate on pushing on the inside holder. Leave it and come back in 20 minutes and everything is usually tight. Thanks,FT
  16. Pump on the truck right now was purchased brand new VP-44 from Jacob (very nice people BTW) at DAP Diesel Auto Parts (HOVP44 BOSCH VP44 High Output for 245HP. Fits 6-speed Manual) and I bought it on 25 May 2012, delivered on 31 May and installed a few weeks later. Calling them right now to see (but I doubt it) about the warranty. Only good news is that I usually purchase large ticket items like this on my AmEx card and that doubles the existing warranty. Just found the receipt and it was charged using the AmEx card, so whatever warranty is normal may be doubled... now to see what kind of warranty they gave me on this! EDIT Finally got through to AmEx and they say that "car parts" are not covered. Guess I am not using AmEx for truck parts anymore! EDIT, Mike, the truck is throwing no codes as all. Checked several times and I have a Scangauge that would show it. Truthfully its been "acting up" for a good month now but would eventually start. Only in the last week would it refuse to start at all when warm. If I had any idea that it was really the VP and that it was going out I would have called DAP but just thought it was some screwy fuel and that I could live with it. Second EDIT Calling Diesel Auto Parts and it goes to voice mail everytime I call, so guessing that everyone is off for the 4th. Oh well, guess I am grounded for the weekend and hope someone from DAP sees this thread! Thx, FT - - - Updated - - - Well I did hear back from DAP but not good news. They will not budge a day or even minute on the 1 year warranty. Said that its the makers warranty and not theirs. They did say that they had some "good take off pumps" but am a bit suspect as you never know what you are getting. As well they want $550 for them and to tell the truth I do not even have that kind of money after the $$ I have put into this truck in the last 12-18 months. I emailed them back this morning asking for more details on the pumps (would they have one that would fit a 6 speed model, which evidently is different from the 4 or 5 speed versions) and no reply so far. If its going to continue to be a money pit may have to sell it and get a PowerStroke. Do not like the trucks as much but I simply cannot afford to keep shelling out a good $1000 every year for something new on this thing.
  17. Windshield mirror fell off. Was out at work and returned to the truck only to find the mirror on the truck hanging by the wire.Boy, and it was only 119 degrees here that day, so prolly at least 140-150 in the cab. You would have thought that the glue was good for at least 200 degrees! :)Ok, so I get to re-glue the metal holder to the windshield.Any tips, trick's or suggestions? Am assuming that its going to take the special "windshield mirror glue" and not just plain old super glue? Thx,FT
  18. Mike,Just drove the truck and it started like it always does... cold. First click of the starter and its fired up and running.Let it sit for 2-3 hours (dinner) and tried it again and it turns over very fast like its trying but no luck. Fuel pressure is 2-3 pounds when I first hit the starter, or up to 20 or so on the second try of the starter, so no luck either with or without fuel pressure in the system. Why would the diaphram stop it from starting when warm yet once the truck is running it drives fine? Just a slight spray of starting fluid and its running fine.Hunter,Its a bear to get to the connections on the fuel pump, especially when the pavement is 140 degrees here in the Arizona summer. I have a Raptor 100 mounted under the truck to the frame rails, so not easy to get to.The VP-44 is about a year old. Any ideas why you feel that it could be bad? I can see it on an old VP with a well used circuit board but one less than a year old?? Thanks,FT
  19. Have been having more and more issues starting the engine once it warms up. Truck starts right away (barely turns over and its running) when cold but once it gets warm I have to crank it several times and even once had to use starting fluid to get it going. Was wondering if I somehow got some diesel with gasoline in it and the gas was vapor locking but its all pure pump fuel. The VP is about a year old and new injectors in the engine. Never had any issue with it during the fall/winter/spring but it sure is making things difficult now.Any ideas or suggestions? Thx, FT
  20. I had my first 100 die several months ago after 3-4 years on the truck. Sent it back to Missouri and they sent me a new one. Installed it and adjusted it for 18-21 pounds pressure. Then 3-4 months later for no reason I can figure out it dropped and started running 10-12 or lower at WOT. Adjusted it one more time back up to the above pressure and its stayed there just fine. Hope nothing changes!
  21. How many miles on that set? Mine had 144k when changed out... FT
  22. Sorry about that. Was not sure on the pressure.Oh well, back to the grindstone!Thx, Mike!
  23. Not the seller but just found a Cummins fuel injector test rig on Ebay. Wish I had some extra $$ as it sure would be nice to have! http://www.ebay.com/itm/CUMMINS-Fuel-Injector-Spray-Bench-Tester-Diagnostic-DIESEL-4-adapters-/251280943700?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr&hash=item3a8182ea54 Maybe we could all chip in and buy it for Mike! FT
  24. Mike, Thanks and glad I got them back.Thx,FT
  25. Sure hope not! I bought the same thing and a new VP from DAP and so far love them but then have less than 5k on them. Anyone have any ideas what to do with the old stock injectors? They have 140k on them and were running fine but wanted a bit more performance. Thx, FT
