  1. Russ,Thanks but believe that there is still some black magic involved here. As to why the temp control does not work until being reset by turning the power off is a good question. I asked the shop about that and they did not know either.
  2. Mike,Good to hear that I am ok to drive the truck on long trips. You say that a normal A/C system will not cycle on and off. That may be true on the Dodge system but sure not with most other A/C systems. I have a couple of other cars that I fuss with and they all cycle on and off depending on the temp in the interior, sending a signal to the A/C compressor clutch that goes on and off as needed. Any ideas what's going on with my temp control not working unless I shut the power off? When its in the "normal position" on the mode switch the temp switch is worthless. You can turn it from right to left and makes no difference in the outlet temps. Thx,Joe
  3. Guy I work with put a set of 50 or 60 hp injectors in and he likes them. No big change in mileage but more power.
  4. Joe, Not a problem. I finally got mine done after finding that the parts place did have the wrenches. Good to have someone like yourself around to help us. Next time will just email directly or call! Take care,Joe
  5. Guys, having a tough time wrapping my thick head around the heating and A/C systems on the Ram 2500. Have worked on cars for most of my life and never seen something like this.First off had a diverter door go out. Took it into a good A/C shop here in town and they fixed it, pulling the entire dash out and replacing the door assy. Drove off thinking that finally after owning the truck for 18 months that the little knob called the "temp control" might now work! Well dammit, it does not!Put the A/C in max A/C and no change but believe that this is normal. Move the mode controller to the second position, normal A/C and once again the temp control knob might as well not even be in the truck. Move it to full hot and its still pumping out cold air. Now lets throw a wrench in the works. If I stop the truck, go inside and then return, if the temp control knob is in the hot or medium position I now get hot air out of the system! Anyone have an idea why it functions after switching the power off? Have talked with the shop and they have agreed to fix it for no cost but I want to make sure that we know what is going on here. First was a diverter door but any suggestions on this? One of my main concerns is that if I start the truck and the temp control is in the cold position then drive a long distance, is my compressor switching on and off maintaining temp or is it on all the time? Do not want to burn out the compressor and I need to make a 400 mile drive next week. Thanks,Joe
  6. Thanks guys, and guess I will just stick with driving at 60-65 then!My truck seems to get best mileage around 1600 rpm, and once I get too close to 2000 area it falls down. Joe
  7. Well, finally got it switched out.Returned to my parts place and talked with the more experienced guy and he said "sure we have a tool set for that!" No one else there knew they had it. 20 minutes later it was replaced! For the next people doing this, above is a pic of the two wrenches you need!Joe A
  8. Well? What happened? Hate to see a good 24v die!
  9. Will see what I can do over the weekend and get back to you. Its finally supposed to be around 100 (has been 112 or above recently) and working outside just is not going to happen with me in that heat!
  10. Mike,Thanks for the suggestion. For now I am just real happy that its running nicely and reliable. What I would love to do is put an overdrive unit of some sort on it to get the rpm's down to reasonable at 75 mph, but having to save money for that for now. Joe
  11. Sorry for the delay, did not see this reply. As far as I know, except for the "jake brake" the truck is stock. I added an Edge w/attitude but do not have the VP-44 wire hooked up so its at range 1 with no extras. Have not seen anything amiss with the turbo tubing but have no reason to believe that the turbo is not the original one, so 120k is a lot of miles for a turbo. Joe
  12. Excellent thread!
  13. Am doing all of this alone, so no have not tried using pliers on the pulley and wrench on the nut. Am handy but not that good! Where do you grab, just on the rounded part of the pulley? Thought about this but was somewhat concerned about bending or warping it.
  14. Still no reply from JL, so he may be out of town or on vacation.Does anyone have a photo of what the wrench looks like that holds the pulley? I have the 36mm wrench for the fan clutch nut already, just cannot get it to hold still with the pulley. Have tried to use a pry-bar to hold the thing and no luck so far... Joe
  15. Please tell me which tool to ask for? I am an aircraft mechanic and have a pretty full tool box already. I have to say that I have never seen a setup like this and am very open to options. Did talk with the O'Rielly auto parts place where I bought the new fan clutch and they said that they have never seen a setup like that either. This is another abortion from Dodge (like the wonderful flapper doors that fail on the A/C and heating system every few months) that makes things so difficult. If it were not for the Cummins engine there are times that I wonder about this truck. Lastly, I do not mind spending a few $$ for tools. Its cheaper than paying a shop to have the clutch changed out and frankly I could loan the tools out to people in this area to use. Say a six pack per useage? Would be well worth it and we both would be happy. Now if I could just get some feedback from the gent who makes the tool...
  16. Silver,I can get the bolts off of the fan unit easily, then there are four bolts holding it onto the pulley that I am assuming would come off easily. Its the damm big nut that will not budge and there is no easy way to hold it that complicates things.Live,Have not heard back from JL yet... Still hoping.Thx,Joe A
  17. Emailed JL and waiting on a reply.Thx,Joe
  18. Well guys, no luck so far. Either this thing is on so tight that its going to take cutting off or I need that special wrench.Tried pounding on it with the chisel and rebar, and did a good job of messing up one of the flats but it did not budge a bit.Mike, you mentioned that someone on the list makes a special wrench for this? Any idea how long and how much $$$? Its either that or take it into a shop who does these and guessing that this would be more expensive.Thx,Joe
  19. Mike,Thanks and appreciate the help.So there is not any real reason for the water flowing to the heater core in summer? I have never seen any vehicle do this, especially with the diverter door issue. I was about ready to loop the hoses right back to themselves had I not gotten the door fixed. Will look into a wrench that would hold the pully tight, maybe a motorcycle flange type of wrench would do it. Or may just give up and take the dremel tool and a cutting wheel to it as all you need to do is to relieve the tension on the nut to unscrew it.Thx,Joe
  20. How did you do it with a punch? Hit the nut part of the fan clutch and knock it off? Pls confirm that its reverse thread? Thx,Joe
  21. Mike,Next question. I thought fan clutches were easy to change, then I met Dodge. Have only done several hundred of them on various cars. This truck has some real idiot designers. First the diverter door concept of heating/cooling and running hot water through the heater core all the time, even with the A/C on, and now putting the fan clutch on with a big (36mm) nut and no clear way of holding the puppy still to remove the nut!Any suggestions on how to get this nut loose? I know its reverse thread, or at least the replacement one is. Have tried holding the belt tight but no luck, it still slips and the nut is not budging. Thanks,JoePS, thanks for the video of the blend door. It may have been one of the other doors that needed replacement.
  22. Mike,Thats what I am thinking and wondering if the A/C place was just pushing the Dodge brand. Sorry but a $100 unit appears to be what is going to go on the truck next. Not having good luck but at least its covered! Picked up the truck and turned right back into their lot. The Edge w/Attitude display was not working so they dove back in the truck. Found that they had jiggled loose the power connection to the display and was back on my way in 10 minutes. Then started driving and the A/C works great, making ice cubes and such in the interior while driving. Then got too cold and turned the temp control up a bit to a normal temp. Did not work... Called them back so they are now going to have to pull the entire dash again and fuss with the temp control issue. At least its not going to cost me anything. Will do it after I change the fan clutch so they cannot blame any of it on the clutch unit.Thx,Joe
  23. Mike,Thanks and I will probably do the next one. Problem is that its already hot here (going to be 112 this Sunday) and I can make money easier than I can work outside in the driveway right now. Anyone have any experience with the various fan clutches? The shop says to go "buy Dodge" and nothing else. Problem is that a real Dodge fan clutch is about $200 or so I am told, while Hayden or 4 Seasons is about $100 for the part so wondering if the Dodge part is that much better.Thx,Joe
  24. Mike, I am getting no where near as much boost as you are. Would love to see in the 30's and believe that the highest I have seen is the high teens or early 20's. Suggestions for this? Am I looking at a new/oh turbo? Truck has 120k on it and runs great. Thx, Joe A
  25. Finally took my truck into the shop to get them to yank the entire dash out and fix the damm diverter door. If I ever find the person who invented this method of heading/A/C, will tie them next to a fire ant mound and slather them with food. Not kidding... Anyways they got everything working fine, it was evidently only one door out of the three that was not working right but now they call and say that my fan clutch (which was working fine yesterday) is now not good and causing the A/C pressures to go too high when the truck is not driving. Interesting... it worked fine yesterday when they started working on it... Fan clutches are easy to change so am going to do that myself but am curious how others have experienced with this? The truck has just about 120,000 miles on it so if its original not concerned.Any suggestions or should I buy a aftermarket replacement fan clutch? Thx,Joe
