Ram 1500 diesel
I wondered right after I bought my jeep, if it was really worth it. Then the spread got even wider on the fuel prices! The other engine the Liberty came with is the 3.7, or the very rare 4 cylinder gas. 3.7 gas powered Liberty typically runs 18mpg, and with 2.75 dollar gas (today) that is 15.27. cents per mile. last 2 tanks of blended diesel been 26 and 27 mpg. That fuel was/is $ 3.85 gallon or 14.52 cents per mile. Makes it pretty hard to justify the $ 4500 premium for the diesel over the gas counterpart.. (when new) but as a used jeep, it works.

Kia timing belt trick.
was it the result of a botched previous timing belt job? or was the timing belt shot.. and needing replaced? .... or is the result of a 9,800 rpm 'tune up'.....

Start up after long term storage or fresh rebuild first start
I figure, if the fluid is clean.. It better be, it's right out of the barrel! (AND THE MEANS OF GETTING IT INTO THE FILTER ARE CLEAN) .. why not. after all, a blob of crap that could fall into the center post hole (on vertical filters...'open end up' will fall into that hole regardless if it's full of oil, fuel, etc. So either way, you're screwed. re; I agree, dirt in the center hole isn't good. All I'm saying is, clean fluid won't make it any harder or easier for a blob to get in there. This of course, snaking a new filter down past a cluttered engine compartment... holding it so debris from surrounding hoses, brackets, etc doesn't fall on top of exposed filter. I suppose 'here' you could cover the new filter with a baggie, and slip it off at the last second before threading it up. I CUSS the perkins and it's inverted oil filters.. makes a heck of a mess when changing. Impossible to 'pre fill' But it's impossible for a blob of crap to fall off the engine into the filter too. I've been power washing a little before this whole process these days. I never liked the idea of 'hitting' an empty filter with full flow oil, without oil on the backside of the filter media. upon restarting there will be almost instant 'wham' from the OP. That's a pretty good jolt on a hollow, folded up piece of paper. Put oil on the backside, and it would be 'supported'. I guess I prefill all of the one's I have that can be prefilled. Fill the center post, let it perculate up through the outboard holes. Takes several minutes and refills for my larger filters. To each his own

Battery Drain
I am missing (or am too schematic dumb) to see the path of juice to the in-dash fuses. I see where is comes from via keyed circuit.. but at the top of the page is cut off (bottom diagram). How does this tie in to the top diagram? edit... maybe this is it? 'top diagram'.... circuit at extreme top of page has 'A' labeled inside a triangle 'to fuses in diagram 2 of 3' ???

Hey, FMI, are the circuits (within the cab fuse panel) hot 'after' the pdc? ie; is the cab fuse panel separate from the pdc Am I correct on the fuses in the cab are for sensing/gauge/and exciter type circuits, whereas the underhood panel is for the 'work' circuits?

Winter time is usually my rebuild time of the year... in a very cold shop. I like to leave the injectors out, but keep the fuel lines attached. Then crank until OP is up to snuff. Very little drag on the starter motor, very little pressure on the bearings, and my fuel system is all but primed as well. Pop in the injectors, and poof. almost instant running engine with full OP. It is a little messy however. When I do luck out and it's warm, I just keep the fuel shut off in 'off' and crank until op is good-to-go. (easy peasy with the 12v..) Last turbo change I just kept the inlet pipe off, and my son grabbed the turbine and held it for 5-6 seconds... while engine was idling.

Battery Drain
not sure if anyone has checked theirs... but what is considered 'normal'.. with stuff like the radio (clock), security, and anything else always 'hot'? edit; just remembered (from my flatbed install last week), the 12v supply to trailer. That isn't keyed, I remember seeing a fuse for it in the pdc... but that's a lot of wire (CHECK YOUR TRAILER PLUG TOO) A little mud in the socket... ya never know! Aftermarket brake controller?

Battery Drain
Didn't jon say he did this, and still had a draw? If so, I'd think there could be something bizzaro in the pdc, UNLESS there is another unfused circuit, (not fused @ pdc) but downstream somewhere. 1000% sure of any aftermarket mods not drawing somewhere? .4 or .5 amp is what? a small bulb? I kinda agree with wildfree... and the 'fighting batteries' scenario..

Fuel economy jump
True^^^ 30 years ago.. there was a lot less 'pickups' around.. less people too! about 100 million less. We (people) are a funny breed. 4 door pickups buzz by me all day long. with ONE person inside, empty. Unfortunately, 1 vehicle is all some of us can afford.. I APPLAUD anyone doing little things that help with their economy. 1 or 2 here and there, it helps. But physics are physics. a 'working engine' ie; loaded, high speed, etc is going to use 'x' amount of fuel. industry standard is ~ 4.5 gallons per hour per 100 hp. *2.4 gph= 25 mpg's @ 60 mph= ~ 60 hp for us. Prius needs what? 14 hp (or some ridiculous number) to maintain 55 mph? Do we 'need' 4-600 (or more) hp? hell no. But man, it sure FEELS GOOD! Not using it, that is the trick!

checking waste gate travel on the '00
after reading a couple recent posts here about various symptoms, checking the wastegate for being stuck was mentioned a few times. Thought I'd check mine. Shoot some air, about 20 lbs? What kind of travel should I see if working ok? Is 90 degree bellcrank movement about right? To be honest, I don't even know if the bellcrank is even visible from the topside! I know I can see the rod going back..

Fine then. Go ahead and think you know how ALL eco systems work just because you plowed a couple sections 'up there'. You apparently no idea how this aquifer works.. It doesn't even get up your way. Any 8th grader educated in this State has a dang good idea on what's going on under their feet. True, there are problems with some pesticides.. but mainly nitrates. I am worried too. Through better fert management, water quality has stabilized... Not cured, but isn't any worse. It was this way long before I moved here from Eastern Iowa in 1984. Don't blame me. But you know, ALL THE BILLIONS OF GALLONS OF WATER USED FOR AG??? somewhere, someone got a nice healthy meal (cheapest in the world) At least some 'good' came of it, It's hardly "half dried up" That statement sounds suspiciously like a 'tree hugger statement'. Even if it was 'half dried', doe that mean it should be endangered even more? There is more fresh water under our feet that what is in the Great lakes combined. Again, A simple movement of a line on a map would eliminate all this concern. But the peanut counters that throw darts at a map look at the most direct , most profitable route to take. No matter, let em pollute our ground water. The plans are to drain the Missouri at 3 forks, put it all in this pipeline after the oil runs out. and sell this water to the gulf coast. problem solved. To sum up this whole debacle, please explain to me how we are mandated by the federal govt, to protect/preserve even the tiniest of wetland potholes.. even a 5 foot diameter 'puddle', without being sent up on wetland destruction charges? But at the same time, they look the other way when a project this huge looms on the horizon? Sure, as long as it doesn't blow, the water is safe. Also explain why the landowners under this pipeline are ultimately responsible for any cleanup caused by a leak?? It's all in writing. XL would scrape up the mess that gurgles to the top, but any 'crap' that gets away is ours, and ours alone. True, like I've said before many posts ago, piplines criss-cross this state and nation. Nothing like what is proposed exposes so many miles of this riparian eco system.. They already have pipelines east of this project, buried deep in the heaviest clay there is. safe and sound. Not a peep of concern from those folks, and rightly so. Anybody who has pissed on their ground around here can testify how quick the wet spot soaks away.. and even half evaporated before they get back on the horse.. This stretch of sand is like no other eco system in the world.

I call BS on the raw crude export. Where did all the north slope oil end up out of Alaska?? It sure didn't make it to sunny California! It went to Japan. Let's assume something has changed in those laws for the sake of argument. Lets figure ALL that crude will be cracked in OK, TX,LA. Then it's sent overseas via tanker in 'finished product' state. What's the difference??? It still crossed our borders. And all the problems that came along with. Potential water contamination of the worlds largest fresh water reservoir, (U.S. fresh drinking water supply ) Expansion of refineries along the gulf coast chugging out more clouds of that great smelling byproduct (U.S. fresh air supply).. I guess if you really don't mind another country ramming their project down OUR (USA) throat... THEY take all the profits...WE have to 'deal' with any problems.. Killer223 ALSO proved MY point. 60k litres is a drop in the bucket compared to a 30 inch pipe, running almost 250 psi... with emergency shut offs every 10-12 miles. (buried in mud) That is 5 cu. ft of benzene loaded crude per running foot. or in a 10 mile section.. almost 2 million gallons. 1,980,000 to be exact. This pipeline, crossing a 150 mile stretch of exposed vein of the Ogallala Aquifer certainly isn't a 'local' problem, Amigo. That Aquifer stretches clear from just north of me into S Dak, clear to deep Texas. Most of the aquifer is covered with a thick layer of clay. But, this 150 mile stretch I talk about isn't. It's sand. and like I've mentioned before, it can be anywhere from 'zero' to 30 foot deep. Sand stops nothing. After they strip the heavy sand out of the crude down in Texas.. where do ya'll suppose that 'pile' will end up?? On the shores of Galveston? Lets talk about what the inside of that pipe will do as all that sand hones out the bottom half of that pipe. How many years before it's paper thin? This crude isn't like the sweet stuff of years gone by. It's a totally different animal. What they have to do to it to get it to flow (benzene) the abrasiveness of it's contents (sand) the length of this 'run'. There is a lot of 'what if's' that every citizen of this Country may have to 'pay for dearly' in the future. Don't get me wrong. I am not a 'tree hugger'. I applaud getting the crude out of the ground, and into OUR economy. Let US GET THE BENEFITS, not just the cleanups. I'd sure hate to sell 'china' billions of tons of grain, that was irrigated with aquifer water 'laced' with benzene. Or the millions of cattle that drink out this same water supply..(yep, YOUR beef comes 'somewhere') Or dealing with an ever growing population on the gulf coast that relies heavily on this aquifer for drinking water. Yes, ALL this water ends up down there. Someday, fresh water will be far more valuable than crude.

Sweet Dreams Sweetheart...see you in the spring :)
How in the heck did you get that in there? push it in and hope it was pointed in the right direction?? There isn't enough space to open a door is there? I'd really like a couple of Konex boxes.. but I live too far away from a port, and by the time they get this far 'inland' they are pretty pricey! Shoot, most 20 footers are about 1800 bucks fob, (any major port city) 3000 bucks for a forty footer... Throw another 2000 bucks on that for delivery..

XL around 'here' is a baaaaad word. Pipelines already criss-cross this State, but none have ever tried to run down the middle of a wetlands... about 150 miles worth. All we've ( People against XL) have tried to do is get them to pull their heads outta their rears, and re-route a little.. All of our ground water is very shallow. A lot of it is on top of the ground, and the rest is anywhere from zero to 30 feet down. They could very easily bypass this part, and parallel an already XL owned pipline. All the impact studies, and ROA's are already in place.. I own land that is slated to get about 1/2 mile of this. I am offered a ONE time payment of 1800 bucks for their easement. If this thing springs a leak, and gets into the ground water, I am responsible in DEQ's eyes for the cleanup... XL has to clean up the surface mess.. ONLY. They are going to 'cut' this oil sand with a pretty good slug of benzene, so it will flow easily through the pipe. Benzene, as you may guess, goes to water pretty dang easily.. Don't even get me started on WHY THE PIPELINE GOES CLEAR TO THE GULF COAST!! It sure won't be for the majority of the US... It's gonna go to the highest bidder. Anyone? CHINA. What a sight that'll be.. a fleet of Chinese tankers parked off of the coast of Texas.

AirDog 150 in cold weather
I believe your pressure 'loss' is from the thinner fuel! 1. pump is not quite as 'tight' as we may think, and is less efficient with thinner fuel.. and 2. the fuel gets 'through' ' the bypasses a tad easier. The difference in #2 and #1 is quite noticeable (viscous wise)

Fuel Prices
2 or 3 weeks ago, diesel went up almost 50 cents in one day... In one town. All the other surrounding towns it only went up 10 or 20 cents. Nobody can give a reason why. Other than 'opportunists'. Since then, those towns have settled down back to the 'pre screwing' price. (foreplay???) All I can think of is the big blast of cold from that arctic vortex... that got all the 'gloom and doomers' thinking of the heating oil switch. Transporters were/are hauling heating oil which dipped into the diesel delivery supply??? GEEZ.. yesterday I had a 'high' of 74 on my 'hi-low' thermometer. This morning, it is 7, plus the wind has it down to almost minus 20 WC. I believe that is the biggest 12 hour spread I've ever seen here. I'm sitting here waitin on all the block heaters to do their job.. my electric meter is glowing, spinning like a top out there!

Ram 1500 diesel
You were/are weaned on diesel engines. Being a farm kid, you KNEW what can and can't be done with them. Make that 'how to drive them'. Look at the multitudes that bought these as their first dip into the world of oil burners.... and the mayhem that followed.

Poor Performance on a 24 valve.
I know you said you have 16 psi fuel pressure.... is it measured AFTER the filter?? Just eliminating some possibilities here. a partial plugged filter will do the exact same thing too. poor motor spin up with no smoke... Actually will run fair up to a certain rpm or fuel requirement.. then it hits a wall. Your lack of smoke makes 'late timing' seem not so certain..

Gotta A Noise Happening
is it a buzzing noise... like hydraulic buzzing?? Changes when you turn the steering wheel?? Mine does it just before the pump goes bad. 3x now in 5 yrs. I've often wondered if my priority valve is bad, and either over pressures or over flows the system. my return line is always pretty dang hot. Changing the fluid more often has helped.

Does the heat gauge eventually get up to 'normal'?
