I have a Connecticut Arms Colt Navy 44 cap and ball replica. Built it from a kit. The instructions, as I recall, warned of over loading the gun so much that the first time I shot it I only used a half load. I was firing at a split oak log I had in the back yard. The second shot I fired bounced off the log and hit me in the left thigh right next to my left ********. Never fired a half load again. I figured a full load would at least stick it in the log. Never got shot by a bounce back again. Had a lot fun with that gun. Still have it here somewhere.

I do enjoy the WWII weapons. The BAR was a mighty potent weapon, but I am glad I never had to tote it all day in life threatening conditions. While I am not a big game player I can guarantee when I do play one that one or both of those will be on the menu.

I love shooting steel, but that is legit.  I've been hit by .22 LR shards bouncing back. The key is to have your plates angled slightly down, not up or square.  Most commercial designs take this into account, but some home made plate targets don't do it correctly.

Gun projects that have been about 3 years in the making: casting and loading my own bullets for 45-70 and 44 mag to feed these two...  The 45-70 gets a healthy charge of 63 grains of black powder behind a 405 grain lead slug.  The 44 will use the Keith designed lead semi wadcutter.  Slow going, but I finally got to shoot the trapdoor rifle for the first time over Christmas.  I love shooting black powder.  Something about the big WHOomP! and the smack of the big slug hitting the target like a rambling freight train makes me smile.  

Bannerman rebuild 1884 Springfield Trapdoor.  The primary service rifle used from post Civil War to just prior to WW1.  I found this pretty cheap on the used rack about 3 years ago.  By far my favorite service rifle, followed by the M1917 and M1 Garand.

I have a Ruger Bisley Blackhawk convertible in .45 LC with an interchangeable cylinder for 45 auto and I absolutely love it, I have been a fan of the single action Ruger revolvers since I was a kid and always come back to the .45 lc. Not a pic of my gun but identical with the Bisley engravings on the lc cylinder.

Hornady came out with a really good new staple gun round, and everybody needs a good stapler.

I want one of those, in 44 mag.  I might make one.  I enjoy working on cars & trucks. I love machine work and gunsmithing.
