I'm not really a fan of seeing a big tip on exhaust or seeing  the exhaust pipe at all. So.. a few weeks ago I cut the last few feet of the exhaust for an axle dump. What I didn't realize was how much louder it would be and how much drone and vibration would come as a result. :doh: I had a hanger/support installed but its a couple/few feet up from the end. So over the axle.. there's no support. I don't mind it being a little louder but the drone and vibration is driving me nutz <--- no pun intended. Do you think another hanger near the end would help alleviate this.. or no?

At that point you will be in need of a long resonator or a very good muffler or both to eliminate that noise.

On my 2010 Hemi a couple years ago I had a guy back into my right rear and kink the exhaust pipe shut and the system on it has a resonator right in the end of the exhaust with a short tail pipe exiting the side, I thought I would take off the factory resonator and see how it would sound and perform and it basically ended at the axle under the box as well. Was the longest month I had, it sounded like a straight piped derby car dumping it underneath like that even with the mufflers, I was totally amazed at how much quieter it is with a simple resonator at the end of the system. I ordered a factory resonator and tail pipe assembly and have not been happier.

No replace everything from the turbo to the rear bumper. I just finished an exhaust kit on a 1995 Dodge replaced every bit of the exhaust system. So much nicer going from straight pipe 5" dumped forward of the rear axle to 4" fully mufflered, full exhaust all the way to the tail. Turn out excellent. The owner extremely pleased. The 5" at 60-65 MPH the drone was so bad two people couldn't talk in the cab unless you slowed down to 50 MPH. Full exhaust system is right around $350 bucks and all new then.

Wade convince you to do that?? Personally I've never liked them. Loud, gets smoke all over the back of the truck, etc.

Did you have a stock system?

I've never had good luck with that. hopefully he will.

When I bought a new tip, my tailpipe was too short. I just welded in a new chunk and painted it with high temp paint. No issues yet.

Patience my friend... cut slices down the outer pipe, as many as you need. Then use a small chisel to bend the tabs out. Then twist the pipe until it comes loose. If you need to squirt WD40 in the joint. Works every time

Then just weld up the slices. I'd find a welder if I were you to put it back together.

Hmm.. should have thought about this back then :-( oh well.. too late. Piece was trashed the next day. Thanks for the replies!

It wasn't a problem before I cut the end off. Can still hold a conversation.. just have to speak a little louder :-)

We had a thread earlier about resonators, they work. I switched from a 4" to a 5", both systems had mufflers. But the 5" was droned so bad, so I added an FTE resonator and it's back to normal loud cummins. 

Your picture is the muffler. MBRP has a straight through muffler, so it's loud! Either way, you should secure the rear of the exhaust so it's not bouncing around and causing excess stress on the closest rubber insulators.
