Let me start off by saying that I am in no way affiliated with Quadzilla or Diesel Auto Power. I was simply asked to test the new updates because I have big injectors, I'm familiar with the Quad, and I know the person doing all of the tuning. This person wishes to remain anonymous, so it will stay that way.

On to the good stuff!!!

So what is V2? Basically it's a way to gain more control over the tuning parameters, with an emphasis on CLEAN POWER. I've got big injectors, and I've driven my own truck enough that I can drive it virtually smoke free, but I have to be very careful with the right petal (even when set to stock)

Here are the custom tuning parameters:

Alright, let's start with the power levels: 
0=stock
1=Power Percent (Explained later)
2=Fuel mileage (Same as the old number 1)
3=can-bus only (Same as old number 2)
4=can-bus + wiretap (same as old number 3)
and so on to the maximum level set is reached.

So, as you can see the first 8 parameters (through "TPS CAN Minimum") are the same as they've always been. They will function just like they used to.

The next two have to do with wiretap fueling. The "Boost Pump Scaling" gives the %specified of called for wiretap fueling if the boost is below the "boost pump low limit"
As an example:(Let's say it's set on level 10) In the pictures you can see I have the scaling set to 0% until 15psi. This means I'll get zero wiretap fueling until I hit 15psi of boost. If it was set at 50% I would get 600us of wiretap before 15psi. 
This greatly reduces the amount of smoke output without reducing your peak power.

Next we have Power Percent. This is the "new" level one! Here we have the percentage of stock power called for at all times. This is perfect to use for emissions testing, letting the wife/kids drive etc. This is also another way to reduce smoke if you're wanting to be really clean. 

Next is boost scaling. This is the same as it used to be. Just a smoothing feature.

Next we have PSI% listed 0-17 in increments of 1. This feature allows you to set the amount of stock power based on boost. It allows you to ramp up the power from 0-17psi, effectively reducing smoke and making the truck more driveable.

 

Now for my experience with testing.

 

Level 1: With my truck stock, I can floor it at any time and create quite a cloud of smoke. You'd swear I have a tuner cranked, but it's not. With my truck set to 70%, I can floor it while doing 55mph in 6th and get as big of a puff as a stock 24V. Meanwhile it'll pull about 34psi @ 2000rpm and 40psi by 2500rpm.  It does make the truck a little doggy, but I could adjust the percentage up as I saw fit and still keep smoke to a minimum. This would be perfect if someone were to borrow my truck (never going to happen but you get the point) They could try to hotrod it as much as they want but won't be able to. I do think this would make emissions a breeze to pass, and it could be used as a safety device to keep the truck from being stolen. Essentially you can set it to 1% and the truck would only idle.

 

Now for the PSI%: With the power level turned up around 1500rpm I can stab the throttle (0psi of boost) and get nothing more than a slight haze until the boost picks up and the quad starts fueling hard. Spool is still excellent under these conditions, I just need to work on my top-end fuel command to reduce the smoke up there. This has made the biggest difference in CLEAN power. The quad is essentially rolling into the throttle for you as the boost comes up so you don't cloud the highway when you get on it. 

Now the "Boost pump scaling" and "boost pump low limit": The wiretap fueling is essentially it's "own" programmer. It doesn't follow the rules of the can-bus fueling. This was taking effect in my description above because it doesn't wiretap fuel for me until 15psi of boost. Thus why it's only a haze until 15psi.

 

Now, what I'm not quite happy with yet. Off idle, if I stab the throttle on level 1 I get a puff of smoke. I am told this is because of where the quad takes over and starts controlling things. It's being worked on and should be fixed soon. Other than that I'm very happy! I do have only 20 miles or so of testing, but this does look very promising. I'll be putting 50 miles on in the morning and 50 miles in the afternoon, so I'll have more info then.

Load Timing.....ugh sucks to explain as there is no good way to do so haha.  

 

So keep in mind that your RPM based timing sets your ACTUAL high limit for RPM at a given RPM,  AKA if you have 20* set as your 2000 rpm timing limit then at no point at 2k will you ever see more than 20*.  What load timing does is section off a * amount of that rpm timing to be related to load.  

 

 

 

So for this example load timing = 3*  RPM =2000 and 2k limit is 20*

 

Load = %25

Total Timing = 20* ( rpm timing) - %75 of 3* or 2.25*  = 17.75 of timing.  

 

Load = %50 

Total Timing = 20* ( rpm timing) - %50 of 3* or 1.5*  = 18.5 of timing.  

 

Load =  %75

Total Timing = 20* ( rpm timing) - %25 of 3* or .75*  = 19.25 of timing.

 

Load = %100

Total Timing = 20* ( rpm timing) - %0 of 3* or 0*  = 20 of timing.

 

So for this example load timing = 2*  RPM =2000 and 2k limit is 20*

 

Load = %25

Total Timing = 20* ( rpm timing) - %75 of 2* or *1.5  = 18.5 of timing.  

 

Load = %50 

Total Timing = 20* ( rpm timing) - %50 of 2* or 1*  = 19 of timing.  

 

Load =  %75

Total Timing = 20* ( rpm timing) - %25 of 2* or .5*  = 19.5 of timing.

 

Load = %100

Total Timing = 20* ( rpm timing) - %0 of 2* or 0*  = 20 of timing.

 

 

Pretty much I minus an inverted % of load timing based on load from 0-100%

Got it. You're reducing timing at lower load to try and spool the turbo(s) with less fuel. Well done!

I wouldn't say it is designed to help spool the turbo, more so to give a "weight" to load in the timing function.  Timing reduct should be used to help spool the turbo still.

From an MPG standpoint, you want high timing under low engine loads. Fuel Load Timing is counter productive. So on an economy tune, you want that set to 0. On a performance tune, I could see using that to gain good spooling of the turbo. Like on my economy tune I'm been using the "Low PSI Reduct" to kick the turbo up quickly on spool. Like today I jumped from 3* to 5* in this setting which gives a sudden drop of timing to light the turbo and then pops right back up nearly instantly. 

 

Gives me an idea on the performance tune though on how to use it I might play a bit tomorrow in Boise... (Evil laughter).

Keep in mind that cruise timing is another section of code.  If the truck goes into cruise state load timing timing reduc and rpm timing are all ignored and ONLY cruise timing is taken into consideration.

Suggestion... Divide the timing sections up for cruise timing and performance timing so the general public will see it as two different functions.

@Me78569 thank you for the list.  Reason I ask is because I have been averaging about 16 in town and only saw about 17 on the last tank that was mostly highway.  I need to pull back on a few things though that can help like low boost psi and tps wire tap.  Mine are way low compared to yours so bringing the fuel in quicker.

I would ensure your mpg tune doesn't have wiretap functioning at cruise.  It's unneeded fueling that is not really "manageable" to the level to get good mpg.  

 

Flash the latest hardfuel flash and update your vehcile for v2 quadzilla only.  Try that timing for cruise.  Ensure that at 65 mph you are seeing about 20* of timing.  I would be very surprised if you couldn't net low mid 20's

Ok. I'm enjoying the new flash. You have to make sure that the cruise pressure is high enough that you can keep it in cruise state. Then make sure your wire tap pressure is at least one pound over the cruise pressure. So I made the mistake of tuning for 55-65 MPH and then hit the interstate and struggled to keep the boost down enough to keep the cruise timing. I've got that corrected now. 

 

I did something unusual this trip and isolated my logs for my city driving. So after traveling around town in stop-go traffic for 10 miles doing miscellaneous shopping I still turned out a whopping 29.12 MPG logging only the city travel. This is with city traffic and speed limits of 30-40 MPH tops. My total for the tank right now is 21.6 MPG which isn't too bad. Still tweaking and tuning on the way home from here. I'm going to start splitting up my MPG logs and sampling more.

Time to kill some ponies and save the environment. Haha just kidding, but seriously hoping for some better mileage on this tune.  Feel free to make suggestions.

Do you need to start that low on canbus?  I would assume you would need to start in the 95 range for smoke free down there at sea level.  

 

Did you flash the latest I posted yesterday?  Cruise timing is better on that one, but you will need to bump your cruise setting to 4*

Also no, I don't need to start that low but I was seeing similar result in fuel mileage with starting around 96 so trying to essentially force myself to stay out of it a little more.  Might work might not but I have seen no where near 20 like many here so hoping that will change.  

 

Also thinking about running over my valves again this weekend and check the lash.  It's been about 30k, and yes I know it's recommended every 100k but being that I have 110lb springs I worry a little more about wear and tear.

Something's up if you are only seeing 17 mpg though.  What's timing sitting at cruise? Canbus message?

 

I would run as high as possible on canbus without smoke.  That should ensure most efficient running.

I just tried updating my phone to the APK provided and got a version 1.9.6 but there is no custom tuning option. Maybe somehow I did it wrong. Do I need to use dropbox or can I directly download it to the phone.

This is VERY strange, 2nd person to have this issue.   

 

Uninstall the app fully and load it from dropbox again. I will try myself.

Try the V2 Quadzilla Only option.  Should be in there

there's an issue with that APK, no idea how, but I pulled it and am testing the app I have saved.
