I have been having a ticking noise from the engine that seems to parallel the rpm of the engine. it only becomes noticeable when slowing down for a turn or stopping. I have checked manifold for cracks adjusted valves and all new injectors. Hold down clamps are tight... Any other suggestions before I take it to the Mechanic to double check valve lash and diagnose the ticking? :think:

Did the ticking noise start before or after adjusting the valves and doing injectors.

If you're planning on keeping your truck and having money I would forget about that word (mechanic) if you're capable of changing injectors and adjusting valves I think you can handle quite a bit more with right tools and patience.

Plan to keep the truck forever. I'm definatly not afraid to do anything as I even plan to rebuild the engine when the time comes. It was all before the valves and injectors. Its been going on for 3 months now and I cant find the problem which is why I suggested a mechanic LOL. 

It seems like the sound is coming from the engine but I  cant verify that. It is not possible to hear it at idle only when in gear shifting down to a stop. :mad:

I once had a buddy walking along side my truck while idling up to his shop. He kept hearing a ticking sound and it turned out to be that I had a slightly bent inside dust cover to the front brakes that was rubbing on the wheel.

That could very well be my problem... I’ll check these things and see what I come up with.

Bad idler pulley? Also wondering about something caught in the rear drums perhaps. Try slowing with it in neutral with brakes only might help detect something.

I def need to check again but seems like I never hear it unless truck is in gear.... :pray:

I had a cracked rotor n my Pstroke one time that ticked every time it went through the pads. Just a thought............

If I could add to this, if you can’t find the noise, what makes you think a mechanic will? Most mechanics won’t give it much time, if the trucks running right, it’s fine. Unless it’s blatantly loud, turns it’s likely obvious what it is. 

 

Just saying, being a mechanic doesn’t means they can fix everything.

I actually have a very good friend that’s a quality mechnic. I stopped by one day just to see him and we somehow got talking about it. He got out this tool that looked like a stethoscope and probed around and he thinks there is excessive noise coming from the tensioner arm....
