Sport Headlight Conversion Kit and Raffle

Recommended Posts

  • Staff

I was wondering if a board member can buy a raffle ticket?

Also my work truck has horrible bad headlights. So bad, I ran over a big chicken in the road  :stirthepot:  Chicken soup.

Anyhow is this conversion kit an easy kit or do you have to work at it a bit to make it fit? If I can't do the raffle I will go buy one. Thank you.

The opening for the headlight housing in 2001 truck should be large enough to accommodate a sport headlight housing without any modifications.  If you haven't done so already, be sure to relay the new headlights because the length of the OEM wiring is so long and so undersized that it is one of the main reasons the OEM headlights perform poorly.

I have had an after-market sport headlight conversion for about 2 1/2 years and although there is room for improvement, they perform far better than the OEM single bulb headlights.

Even with my Sport truck I had to place a heat sink attached to the headlight switch because it was getting too hot. Thought it would melt the poor thing.

I am assuming that your 02 truck has OEM sport headlights.  Aren't they relayed?

I changed to the sport style headlights and as mentioned it was a marginal improvement.  I finally added a bull bar with custom bracketry and light perches to add (3) 6.5" KC's inside of it...2 floods and one spot.  I have the floods aimed down for driving and the spot will go way out there.  No problems seeing now!

That is correct,  a factory Sport model. Does that mean the switch shouldn't be getting hot then? I  had the camper and its marker lights on too when I noticed the heat near the switch.

Thank you sir!  It's not perfect but always trying to move in that direction...still got some work to do but it's a labor of love!

My anti-theft system is merely a hidden switch that cuts power to the steering column so no start unless you find the switch.  ?

Since the headlights are relayed, I am guessing that your truck may not have the trailer tow package which would relay the taillights and clearance lights for the camper.  If the headlight switch is handling the combined load of the truck's and camper's tail and clearance lights, the switch would get hot.  Just a guess.

My truck has the trailer tow package and the headlight switch never gets hot, in fact it is still the original headlight switch.  I relayed the old headlights immediately when the truck was new just to have better lighting and to take the load off of the headlight switch.

Thanks so much for the info John. Mine is a camper package so you would think it is relayed, but read that they are not and a hot switch is common on these trucks. .I should put a relay on the truck used for the camper also.

On the trucks that I have the switch get hot I found that the switch spades and the plug had started to corrode. Most of them I had to replace both the plug and the switch because they were melted but I have gotten away with just cleaning them back to nice and shining.

If you do install a relay, I will bet that you will see much better illumination on the camper lights as well - and you could get rid of your heat sink, which by the way, was a good idea.

I dont see why a Board member can't buy a ticket, the process for picking is %100 programmical.

Well I just went to the raffle page and in big red banner top right, it says I can not participate.  Also is there any way to get a link to the pictures?   When you click on them they are the same small size.

Thanks Old Eyes!!

That is the same banner that I saw. Thought it only specific to me and other members of the board. It's confusing that it comes up first hand and each participant would know anyway if they bought a ticket or not. Really doesn't need to be there. IMHO.

try again I refreshed the settings.

Nope Same old Banner.  Also the Raffle just shows the adaptor harnesses does the kit come with the relay's?  And do you have a Schematic for the kit installed?

Thanks!

Michael
