This weekend i drove from LA to San Diego. Abot 135 miles one way. Before i left i filled up and reset my OHC mpg reader. When i got to my buddies place i was at 28.2. I avg about 60-65 mph. Before i went home we went to the drag strip in the mountains. About 20 miles of uphills. All together i put on 308 miles round trip. I used 1/4 of a tank. When i got back im at 27.1. Does this seem acurate?

wow... It dosent seem right to me, but I am having a really good day if I can get 18-20mpg out of my turd. I guess it is possible... I just dont believe it. I have never seen a ctd get over 22. However 60-65mph and only 20miles on hilly roads my truck would love to be able to get driven like that, not many of those spots around here though.

My overhead was remarkably accurate, compared to hand calculated. Guys refer to them as "Lie-O-Meters" because they are not adjustable if any changes have been made to the truck. Tires, engine mods come first to mind. IAre you running any sort of add on box or chip? My 01, when it was pure stock, never got broke 19... but then I have 4.10 gears. Your transmission is a good one & with the right rear ratio would be expected to get better... but I really doubt those numbers. Hand calulate your next trip & let us know. Is your signature everything on the truck?Russ

I have the same gears and transmission as you and get around 17.5, but I live in the mountains. We have very little level ground. The overhead tells me I get 17.6, it is always one tenth of a mpg off, I can live with that. It is stock with stock tires.

I could stand a little of whatever it is you have. the lighter foot most definately. How many gallons did you put in?

Today i put in 11.7 gallons. Before i left i topped off from a lil below half a tank. All together after 308 miles i used 11.7 gallons. Way better than my old F250 7.5L
