Disabling truck ideas

Recommended Posts

I will be on the road for the next couple weeks and will be parking my truck in some undesirable spots and wanted some ideas as how to disable my truck so if someone was to get in it and broke the ignition they could not start it. I did try pulling the AOD relay but it still started but had no dash power. Is there any other relay or fuse that I could pull quick and easy even under the hood that will keep it from starting that would not be so obvious that a thief would notice. This is a emergency trip and I may not be able to respond but I will be able to read what was posted so don't be offended if you don't hear from me. Thank you ahead of time for any new ideas.    Bob

I believe the #9 fuse inside the cab (Left side of the dash) Will kill the truck. You can pull that out and it can't be started.

EDIT: Just tested it. #9 prevents the ecm from coming on. It works perfect

if they have enough time with the truck they;'ll get it working.

i have had two family members get their trucks stolen in Phoenix AZ. both truck turned into drug running trucks, they bust every light out and drive with night vision. my dad pulled the relay to run his 06 duramax, my sisters has a jumper wire bypassing her 400$ alarm. both were sitting for only 2 hours.

Fuses and relays don't work. Just pull another fuse or relay to get it running.

There has been a few good idea told to me. Like rigging the starter relay on the cigarette light. So in other words you would have to push the cigarette light in like you going to heat it up to start the truck. When you leave just take the lighter with you.

Another idea is open the PDC and fine the fuel pump relay and disconnect the black lead. Now hook a new black lead to that terminal and run in the cab to a hidden toggle switch. The other terminal go to ground. So now as long as the switch is on the VP44 will fire up. Without the switch its dead. I suggest locating the switch some where where people will not see you reaching or digging to flip. I had the idea of hiding it under the brake release lever. This way it a natural movement to release your brake and tip of the finger toggle the switch.

Master power disconnect. Those work good to. Just got to be sure the terminal ends are not accessible like in a floor mount the terminals are just under the truck looking for a jumper lead.

Another suggestion is to make sure you lock your hood. Back when I lived in California I use to chain the hood down to prevent others from accessing other ways of starting the car. Also any wire work you do make sure to hide it all in the factory loom. This makes it extremely difficult to figure out what was mess with and what is disabled.

This fall I just repaired a stolen 1999 Dodge Cummins...

I am convinced that you need several to many disabling tactics incorporated into the truck because the crooks are getting pretty smart. I'd say do all the above as a combination. I would like a couple 1/2'' size fuel shut off valves both hidden best you can. All this takes time you may not have right now.

Electronic shutoffs aren't always good. As many pro crooks show up with a doctored ecu. And getting into our rams is child's play for a pro.

This is why I have insurance and a beater 1996 Saturn airport car. If somebody really wants my truck, they will get it.

when my dad truck was stolen, they drug it onto a flatbed tow truck. took it somewhere else and got it running, it was an 06 duramax LTZ. not a single working light bulb was left when they found the truck.  the edge and all the add on goodies were still there. it was beat to hell. found in a mine shaft after it quit. they put 4800 miles on it in week.

if they have the time and want the truck they'll get it. end of story. they'll diagnose it till it fires up.

my son  when he was  in the  Marines  and  based  in  29 palms Cali,    said  they  had  a  LOT  of  'unauthorized'      vehicles   running  through  the desert,  and  totally blacked out.   The only way   to see em  is  with  infared.    He  said  they was   moving  out  real fast too!

those  fuses  are a good start,  and  I'd even  go   old school;     simple  hand  valve  in the  fuel line,  somewhere  that is   kinda  hard to see,   Down by the starter,  or  even  back closer to the tank.      I'd  use  a  simple  ball valve,   1/4  turn   ON-OFF ,   1/2 inch  capacity.

You shure made me laugh, My Blue Healer was the size of a Budweiser can when I got her. She was my best friend when I owned the ranch in Nevada I had a little female {spade} Blue Healer named "Spud" If I left her outside at night and she found my pick-up with the window open, that is where she slept and no one got in that pick-up. Spud always rode shotgun and I could park anywhere.

Sorry for your truck theft.

the dog idea is a great idea, except around here in AZ people are to damn nosy and call the cops if your animal is untended on or in your vehicle. even here in Flag at 7000 ft where we don't have the heat of the Phoenix valley people still do. i wish they would just leave well enough alone. mind there own damn business. had my dog impounded, they took him out of the back of my truck, were he had water and was parked in the shade. tried to charge me with animal cruelty, vicious animal at large, (boxer). and was telling me they were going to arrest me.

long story shortened, i had to pay 300$ for the dog jail time, 200 for the court fees, when no charges were ever filed against me. these gestapo pigs need to..... i hate cops. Same with the liberal pricks that called the cops in the first place.
