what are the proper step by step to increase Hp

Recommended Posts

The order I would suggest is as follows.

1. save up some cash

2. go to dealers or shop the net for a newer diesel or even gas pickup as they have more power than the old diesels did, my 2010 5.7 hemi would run circles around my 02 cummins when it was stock..

3. pick out your favorite one.

4. make the deal and enjoy it.

235's or 265's work really good with 3.55 gears.

As for Craigslist you get what you pay for. I would always opt for a vendor over EBay or Craigslist because if there is any problems with your purchase then at least you get support. With Ebay or Craigslist you on your own and might not be able to use what you purchase.

Thanks man! I think I,ll keep going with my project... gauges then smarty programmer, doing gears must be big bucks, did anybody ever switch gears before doing upgrades? How much for a gear set?I'll try E bay for my gauges, for Craigslist probably U.S?

I ran a smarty on my 98 for a while and it ran great with 34" tires and 3.54 gears. You really can't go wrong with a smarty or and edge comp, or both. Isspro ev2 gauges are top notch and simple to hook up. You already have the transmission so the big purchase is out of the way. My Dually has 4.10 and I have tossed the idea of going 3.54 or even 3.73 for a better hwy rpm.

Did the gauges pod,4" exhaust, cold air intake and added the Smarty...nice...in setting 5 just great for what I need, the ddrp keeps up to 14 psi, does the high idle and 3 cyl high idle gets enabled on your first download ?It doesn't show in the parameters settings.

Am I better to go to different gearing before doing mods, that is probably big $.Can you buy the gears only to replace?

Gearing makes a huge difference in the way your truck feels, and drives. I would estimate you need about a 4.10/1 ratio just to get back to where you were with the 31" tires.

it would also relieve some strain on the drive line, but its not going to be cheep..$$$$$$$.

today I was test driving the truck up hills, getting 1100 egt with 18 psi turbo, this was pushing the truck on setting #6 with the Smarty, how's that for #?If I set up a J hook on the waste gate would it cool down the egt?

If it was me I would see about upgrading to HX35W turbo (12cm2 exhaust housing) and jump away from the HY35W turbo (9cm2 exhaust housing). I typically can pull 6-7% grades on the Edge Comp set to 5x3, 3" exhaust (mufflered), BHAF, with 25-30 PSI of boost and be right under 1,200*F with a 8,000 pound trailer behind me.
