On my 2000 24valve i keep blowing the metal transmission line that is closest to the firewall that is coming from the torque converter cooler that is mounted to the passenger side of the block. Both times it ruptured at interstate speeds. Can anyone offer any ideas?

  2. I started having the infamous up/down shifting around 43-47 mph this afternoon. I've found the link for recal'ing the APPS, but the links are dead for the ground wire mod. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for this? I plan on taking the troubleshooting one step at a time tomorrow. 1st will try the APPS reset 2nd will try the alum. foil around passenger battery to alternator wire 3rd would like to try the ground wire if the above fails to fix her up 4th will replace APPS if needed as last resort Anyone care to chime in and let me know if I have these steps in the right order? Thanks in advance for any tips. --- Update to the previous pos…

  3. So, my buddy and I dropped the trans yesterday in preparation for the install of my new FTI converter. The trans is currently at a buddy's shop having the Superior shift kit and some new seals installed. Anyway, in looking at older posts, I see that the stock converter has 6 welded bungs for the bolts. The converter I pulled out of my truck has a billet bottom plate, and aside from color looks like a twin of my FTI. Of course, all of these billet converters look the same, so that doesn't mean a thing. Anyway, can any of you experts ID one based solely on a couple of markings? This is the old one: I'd like to know whose it is, because it flippi…

  4. Ok Gang...I've got a for sure way to diagnose torque converter lock up issues where it lock and unlocks at about 45-50 MPH. I had a gent call me yesterday with this problem and he's replace both batteries, alternator and the APPS sensor. Attempted all the different wiring issues (adding ground, tinfoil etc.) nothing worked. Like I told him the truck ran 11 years without all this stuff and doesn't require any wiring change to make it work. What it needs is the damaged part to be replaced. So he's returned the wiring back to stock setup. Now I told him to unhook the alternator fuse and take it for a ride... Guess what... No problems! Even though he replaced the alternator it…

I hope I'm not hyjacking this thread but my torque converter locks up so hard when I stop the struck and do a restart, as soon as I put it in gear it stops the engine. I have to roll downhill in neutral before placing in gear and then the trucks goes just fine. What could cause this? Too high of fluid pressure or level? Please delete this post if it's a hyjack..... I know very little about auto transmissions. Thank you

Hey fellas new here. I’ve got a 2000 24valve vp truck and the trans has been rebuilt. Receipt says reman billet converter. From time to time I have lock/unlock issues pretty sure it’s the alternator wire. Problem now is the truck is easing into lockup, shuttering, rpms just fluctuating at lockup. But it only does it under moderate to heavy throttle but converter locks up fine under full throttle. Doesn’t matter if comp box is off or on level 5. So is this converter issues, valve body issues, voltage problem or what?

  8. I have a 99 Ram 2500. Lately the torque converter has been locking and unlocking, the other night I was checking the altenator grounds and realized my under the hood light was burned out, I took it out and now my Radio, inside lights, and cargo lights dont work... but the Torque converter doesnt lock and unlock anymore, It shifts like it did the day I bought it. Could these be related? I do have a deck, amps, speakers. I did notice that every now and then the amps would make a loud high pitched sound while accelerating. I like the torque converter part but dont know how long I can go without a radio... any suggestions?

I had a TC bolt back out sitting in the case/adapter hitting the flex plate, fixed that. Used red loctite on everything, all bolts are tight, billet goerened flexplate installed. Still getting a rattling sound when the torque converter is locked under load. I think the noise is coming from the TC, not the motor, because it only makes noise in lock up. Hard acceleration in 1st 2nd and 3rd is noise free. Truck idles fine, no abnormal noise. After doing some reading, some cummins people complain about ATS torque converter rattle and early 7.3s too. Anyone ever heard of this? Converter is a DPC triple disc. Transmission shifts fine, no slipping to my knowledge. @Dynamic? …

  10. Good morning everyone, I have a question regarding my 99 with a 47re. I decided to do some investigating because the truck developed a noise. I found that my torque converter to flexplate bolts were loose. I was able to get a half turn when retightening. So I have a few questions, any help or info you could share would be great. First, are these bolts TTY? Second, if they are not TTY, should I remove them, use locktite, and reinstall? And last, would you happen to know the torque spec on those bolts? Thank you guys for reading and for your time. This site has been a life saver many times. Brandon

My torque converter is on it's way out and I'm swapping it this week for an upgraded billet low stall single disc, anyways, what else should I replace (budget friendly) while I have the tranny out? Seals? Washers?-solenoids are new -new filter and fluid obviously-shift kit -possibly billet servos-pan with a plugThanks

My question is, I just had TSI install there HD Precision TC ("the biggest and baddest" in the sales guy's words) and the only thing I have really noticed is smoother overall driving. I have read that stock doesnt transfer power as well and it still seems to be that way after the upgrade. In third gear the TC locks and it pulls really hard but not nearly has hard unlocked. Feels like I am losing a lot of power in other gears. The tranny is in great shape and has always held shifts fine even with the stock converter and valve body. Is there something else I dont understand and need to also upgrade to get the full power potential out of the auto trans or did they not instal…

  13. Starting a new thread so we don't clutter up other threads with this talk and we can have it in one dedicated thread. So @jlbayes you're the second person now I've seen post in the last couple days saying that the lower stall speed was terrible. Seems weird that builders like @Dynamic are using the slightly lower stalls, but the end user isn't happy. Is it just a preference on your end or is it actually performing bad? @Dynamic you said that the slightly lower stall speed was good up to around a 62mm sized turbo right? @jlbayes what size charger and stall speed where you running?! Tagging for sa purposes: @CSM @Silverdodge @Me78569 @JAG1

Hello, im new here and to the 2nd gen community. Just picked up a 1999 dodge ram 24v a week or so ago from my uncle. Truck has sat for 5 years but fired up first try when i put a new driver side battery. secondary battery sits at 12.4v after charging it but primary wouldnt hold a charge. First drive, the car would approach redline at 30 mph, but after like 2 minutes, it fixed itself. Then i had the dreaded unlocking/locking of the TC around 45-55 mph. I did the @W-T ground and alternator wire relocation and now it does not like to shift or lock the converter when im on the highway. At 60 ish mph rpm is at 2500. I did the APPS reset after waiting a few hours with the batte…

working on a 2001.5 dodge diesel quad cab 4x4 . I want to replace the convertor , is there enough room to slide the tranny back and swap out the convertor , or is t going to have to be dropped to the ground ? If I do this I'm working outside under a tarp and I was hoping to just sling the tranny to the frame and pull it backwards .

  16. Started by Doubletrouble,

Not long ago I changed injectors in my truck (see sig) and assuming that the claim of 100hp is accurate, anyone have an estimate of my new torque numbers? Stock Dodge advertised 235hp and 460ftlb of torque I believe. Just wondering where it might be at now. Any thoughts? No chassis dyno around here that I know of and honestly not that worried about it to spend the time and money. Just curiosity really.

I was having a yarn with a Dodge mechanic a while age and mentioned how my truck seems to really work nice once you get rolling and the auto is in overdrive and the converter locks up. He said it was built that way on purpose and thet Dodge calls it torque management. Supposedly helps the trans live a little longer. Is this correct, I tried a search but found lots of other stuff. Not so much on this. I may have even asked about it before, thought I already bugged you about it. How does it do this, i would assume it regulates the timing and fuel somewhere along the line. Thanks. Chris

  18. Well I have finally came up with a solution for the dreaded torque management that has plagued us 2nd gen owners for decades, and best of all its free. It all happened by accident actually. I opened up my trans due to some funny shifting issues and found every screen inside it was full of metal shavings. Which obviously meant that they got past the filter but more on this later. I cleaned all the solenoids and sensors of the metal and the little screens that protected them along with installing a new filter and fluid. Everything was good for about 2 weeks then all of a sudden after i left a drive thu i lost all forward gears. I messed around with it for a little while (li…

i'm looking for answers as to how to eliminate my torque management system on my 01.w/no mods in stock form i could do a brake torque w/ my truck but no matter what kind of power i'v added over the 7 years had it i can not do so.you can see from sig i'v up graded much of the fueling system but to no aval.i want to do some drag racing(for fun nothing too serious)but the truck bogs out of the hole until i hit about 25 mph then it'll go pretty good.on damp or wet roads no issue so i think there some kind of senor that fells road resistance & limits power offthe line.i had a fooler box from BD Diesel that eliminated it but shut down the tach, oil,&water temp gauges.i d…
