3rd Generation Dodge

This is a discussion forum of the 2003 to 2009 3rd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L and 6.7L Common Rail Cummins Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system.

  1. Hey guys, I have a 2004 3500 SLT single rear axle 5.9. Had an issue come up within the last week. Had my injectors and tubes and TPS sensor replaced about 6 months ago because of a starting issue. At wide open throttle 2500 RPM sounds like the wastegate dumps open and I lose all power but if you keep it floored you can see the RPMs climbing slowly. As soon as you let off the pedal and hit it softly you gain power again but right at 2500 RPMs it drops off again. Only code stored is a fan code p0483. Haven't had a chance to test the fan but it seems to be working.. I tried disconnecting the fan and driving it but it does the same thing at 2500 RPMs. Any help would be great.…

I know its probably archived here somewhere, but can someone please post the proper procedure for doing a band adjustment on a 48RE ? Thanks Angus

  3. Started by angus,

I was on my way home yesterday evening, and had to stop at an intersection a couple of miles from the house. As I was coasting to a stop the transmission made a noticeable downshift.. which I have never noticed it do before. I then turned and while accelerating the 1-2 shift seemed late and the 2-3 was late and hard. The road has a 45mph speed limit and normally the truck shifts into overdrive right around 45, but this time it wanted to stay in 3rd. As I got into town 25mph streets it still seemed to want to stay in a lower gear than normal. Checked the fluid this morning and it appears normal. decided to go down and check for codes. The truck n…

Went to adjust my parking brake and found out they don't hold to well covered in oil. Go figure right? However no oil on the wheel or tire. I'm not 100% its leaking now as it could have been replaced and not cleaned off. Anyone replaced these seals before?

Miles on my Cooper Discoverer AT3's in the stock size LT 265/70 17E now. Probably got 5/16's of tread left on average. They've been really good tires for me. Just saying, not arguing.

My neighbor says the only way he can get his 03 cummins to start is with starting fluid. He has replaced a bunch of parts, he can't remember what all, but everything costs 2 or 3 hundred dollars, the last of which was the in tank pump. Nothing has helped. He says it runs great, just won't start, hot or cold doesn't matter. Any thoughts?

Driving me nuts trying to find approximate value of this truck. I have a very slow internet provider. SOOO, I am asking you guys to make a guess. It was used as commuter truck by a farmer. 2009 4 door loaded with 250000 miles, auto. He has it serviced every 3000 at a dealer. It is a desert truck with 0 rust. He uses other field trucks on the farm and it is parked in the shade. and garaged at home. Clean but needs a front seat rebuild. Give your best guess. Thanks.

Replaced the OEM one yesterday afternoon with a new one from AutoZone. I tell you; nothing lasts anymore, only 226,xxx miles/11years and this thing craps out on me!! Weep hole was plugged with dirt/**** etc. The rubber O-ring was broken thru in one spot once I got her out. Don't know if I tore it removing it though; as I had to take a wood dowel and place it on the water pump to break it free from the block. I didn't wack it hard, just tapped to break the 11 year old dirt seal on the thing. Once I saw that it moved from the block, it came out easily. Cleaned up the mounting area, put a very light coat of grease on the O-ring, and re-installed. I …

  11. Just throwing this out there for those who do not know that all new brake pads must be "Burnished" or worn in for ultimate brake performance. Coming from the heavy mining, construction and ag equipment side of the world this is a common "Must Do" procedure on all dry brake pads be it drum or disc but you all most likely do not know that it should be done on ALL vehicles with drum or disc brakes. There are different ways of doing it but all have the same results. rather than typing it out I will just post up a couple different procedures. Enjoy and hopefully you all learned something new and hopefully it will lead to safer braking for everyones sake. If one …

@Taz showed up to my house on Thursday for his gages and a-pillar setup. Also had a few other things to fix like his exhaust brake not working and also got a windshield banner. So here is the gauge setup. ISSPro EV2's chrome rims, blue on white background. Now the fastener for A-pillar is a chrome bolt and washer looks very stylish and proper. Much nice that standard old hardware bolt. Then he wanted a nice windshield banner too so I got that stuck to the glass...

Hello All, Going to run a compression test on my 2007 5.9 CR this weekend and was wondering if it is a good idea to remove the CP3 pump as it will not be receiving fuel during the cranking process for each of 6 cylinders? Thank you in advance for the input.

Hello, I will be swaping out my steering linkage soon and will be going with the mopar "upgrade" model that came on the newer trucks. It requires that I replace the pitman arm due to positioning and steering damper due to mounting hardware. My question is, is there some way to adapt my existing damper (3rd gen bilstein5100) so that it mounts on new linkage ? I feel like at some point I came across a post of a way to do that but I can't find anything on it now that I need it, thank you!

I have an 08 2500 4X4 standard shift with 455000 miles on it. This is a work truck so no mods other than the deletes with the smarty sr. The front control arm bushings are shot. I am wondering if I should stick with oem or go to some kind of after market control arms? If I go after market what brand and where to purchase them? I just started to remove the drivers side lower and found the cam bolt froze up. I am fixing to invest in an air hammer to see if that will push it on out. When that back one just slid right out I thought this is going to be a piece of cake. Lol! Anyway if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them.

In my fuel supply system. Do I just "snug it up a bit?? No tape or dope is supposed to be required on these fittings correct?? It's on the low pressure side......................the return to the fuel tank after the bypass valve/regulator.

Hello all who read this. Sorry for it being such a long read. I have an 08 6.7 2500 4X4 at 448,000 miles standard shift. I am almost stock as in I did a cal delete with the smarty race me pro. I keep it set at the 0 setting for fuel economy and that has worked out well. I went with a dual disc clutch when the stocker failed and started to slip under load. I also am using a K&N air filter in the stock airbox. I use my truck for moving travel trailers and a daily driver. The truck developed a vibration some time ago. First thought it was the drive shafts had them rebuilt tires balanced. Used to it would only vibrate on the road now it vibrates sitting still. I can loo…

so tractor supply has a http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/traveller-diesel-engine-oil-sae-30-2-gal straight 30wt oil.. would there be hard in running this? i use 15/40 most of the time and don't really see the need for the 5/40 as i plug my truck in in the cold. i'd be running it in most of my engines as well. most call for a 10/30-15/40 i'm looking to stock pile some oil before the new oil spec takes affect. i'll be getting 5 and 55 gallon drums of 15/40 and maybe some of this 30wt oil. thoughts.
