Just replaced my a/c compressor and the mechanic notes that the pressures were getting high and the fan wasn't engaging. Took awhile for the fan to kick on. So at what pressure is it supposed to get for the fan clutch to kick in? --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?fvx4cf 2003 Ram with gauges and a Smarty! Not much more. I am pretty sure I know what it is but wanted to get y'all's opinion as well. I drove from outside Challis to Kuna, ID yesterday. The first 55 miles was dirt and then the next 170 miles of pavement everything was smooth as butter. Speeds up to 80+ at short times but cruising (if you can call it that on mountain roads) at 55-70 for a lot of it. Came to a stop at the intersection of 17/55 and got onto 55 and noticed a bouncing that was the worst at 35-40 mph. It smoothed out a little by 55-60 but I didn't push it past 60. There is no vibration below 30-35 and rpms have no effect (i.e. lug in a tall gear or 3K in a lower gear). I am thinking a tire might be dela…

Any reason not to stick with my OEM Y steering?MOOG replacement parts are $217 to my door, and I don't need a new stabilizer (less than 40K on a Bilstien 5100), or pitman arm. T steering appears to be $340+ the pitman arm and stabilizer for OEM and maybe $75 less for MOOG. I have 125K on my OEM steering and it's never given me DW or any issues. I do plenty of towing/dirt road driving, etc... not a single complaint other than it's starting to wonder a little now. Will MOOG last as long as OEM? I've also been told to look at NAPA parts, which I generally HATE buying, and they are just under 2x the cost of MOOG. Generally price and quality are directly correlate…

Sorry for the crappy video but it at least has good sound. If you cant tell I am recording this from the intake tube off of the stock air box. The noise I am refering to is the repetitive thumping noise. At idle I can hear it inside the cab but I dont notice it driving down the road. I just got this truck and I dont know a whole lot about diesels although I know my way around a gasoline engine pretty well. Is this a normal noise and I'm just being overly worried about the truck i just bought or is all hell about to break lose? http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v362/joepinder/?action=view¤t=IMG_0200.mp4

Time for a drive pressure gauge! I ordered a matching gauge [boost, 60psi] to the ones i have & bought some 1/4'' copper tubing & fittings to port into the manifold. the other end of the copper will attach to the poly boost tube that comes with the gauge. Two things i'm not sure of,..... do i need a soot filter?? [ah62id], your turbo article in tdr dosnt show a filter,.. does that work ok? i'll prob. end up with a simular setup......... The other thing, where is the ideal place to tap the manifold? THANKS!!

Well, lost 2nd gear on stock trans at 70,000 miles. Put in new Jasper with triple disc converter, got 5 miles, hit slight upgrade and got a bad shudder as driving on the bumps on the side of the road, never had this issue on the stock trans. They replace the trans, same problem, replaced both u-joints, same problem, they said they couldn't figure it out and good bye. Drove another 1,000 plus and found code for overdrive and converter slip. Replaced and installed #3 trans, still shudders. Had a Dodge dealer check out the truck while #2 was in and they couldn't find anything wrong. With #3 in, test drove (put in 2nd, tow haul mode, exhaust brake on to lock converter) shudde…

So I was looking at the smarty tuner site, thinking about a tuner, and trying to figure out which would be best for me and my truck. I like the price of the JR. better than the S06 and I'm wondering if I really need the bigger tuner. I got this truck to pull my TT and some day I might go up to a 5er. I will tow my Harley and maybe a boat. So that's the extent of the weight. It's also my daily driver. Not planning on using the truck for any commercial purpose. I won't be building a race truck and I don't want the truck belching smoke. I have a Flowmaster muffler and an airraid intake tube.If I have to change injectors I will probably go with the Smarty 50 hp injectors( whi…

Hi folks I am new to the forum. I am a contractor by trade. I can build you just about anything from the ground up. When it comes to vehicles particulary diesel my knowledge is limited. That being said I have a 2005 Ram 2500 and she is acting up. Over the past few weeks from idle to 1500 rpm the truck sputters, vibrates and just runs like crap in general. The truck also acts like the cruise control is set sometimes the throttle won't back down for a good 30 seconds. I will be sitting at a light, motor running at 1500 rpm holding the brake down so she won't take off. I did an oil change, I changed the fuel filter and made sure air filter was good. On a side note an…

Hey everyone.I need to clean corrosion on the battery terminals on my 05. I'm having problem w/ finding the right socket/wrench size that fits that nut. It's small w/ the small bolt which looks to me to be 1/8". Anyone know the size of that nut? I can fit a 11/32 over it but it won't catch. 5/16 and 8mm is too small. It's got so much crud that I can't really tell if it's a nut at all. Really appreciate the help. Thanks,Eugene

Hi everyone, I was one of the uneducated consumers of a Bully Dog triple dog GT tuner, at the time I was new to diesel trucks and just purchased the name that everyone tosses around. Later I found out that for my goals the Bully Dog would just not suit my needs so I unmarried it and now just use it for it's gauges. The reason I am revisiting tuners is because I am in the process of having a transmission built and figured this would be a good time to get a tuner that better suits my mods. I just found out that BullyDog is finally accepting custom tunes and I can actually upgrade to the software that will allow my tuner to accept custom tunes for free and then go to on…

2005 5.9 24 valve. Making oil... Yuk. I guess most of you know what that means. It is also knocking on injector 5 and 6. At least it is going to be a beautiful day down here in Texas. Already in the 70's. Will update when I'm all done. Oh, and this is my first post, great site from what I've seen so far.

I have an 03 dually with the 5.9 Cummins and 6 spd manual. There is some blowby, not bad but enough to notice it when the truck is idling and you look under the front. I found some seals and an open ended ring in the dash pocket when I bought he truck, I wonder if the turbocharger seals were changed and not put back right, and if that is causing my blowby. (See the bottom cause in the chart) Anybody have any thoughts on this ?

Man I got started putting my Spyntec hubs on today... I got one side done, and the hub/lockout sticks out 2" past the lug cap?? It is supposed to be the D0008S shorty kit?? I was not expecting anything more than the lockout cap to stick out.

So my friend has an issue. He has a 2006 ram 3500 cummins with a 6 speed transmission. While driving down the highway last week all he started getting a really bad miss, then a bunch of loud clanging from the engine. He got the truck into a local shop up in Wasilla that night. They pulled the valve cover off and found a valve spring missing. It's just gone. The valve dropped into the cylinder and got gobbled up by the mighty cummins. So at this point, it would appear he needs a rebuild at the very least. Shop said the head is past rebuild able. The piston is toast as well as the turbo. Very bad deal all around. If he were to find another motor, what sh…

High miles, deleted, lots of fresh parts. The business that owned it changed direction and sold it when the rear end blew. A friend picked it up cheap a few months ago and had a shop rebuild the rearend. It was broken in properly, rechecked, and filled with synthetic goodness.352k 2007 4x2 6sp C&C with 9.5' CM flatbed. 30k on delete, head gasket, turbo, injectors (it was loosing coolant, turned out it was the EGR and that's when/why). 9/10 on paint and body.Smarty Jr, no blowby, 3.42 gears, fresh brakes, front beam axle and steering were gone through, tranny is tight and doesn't grind, South Bend twin disc & hydraulics.cruise non-op, ABS light is on, needs tires, …

Thanks for such a great forum, I'm having a problem with my lift pump. First off, I have an 02 Dodge / Cummins. It has 354k on it and has gone thru 4 or 5 lift pumps over the years. The pump is located on the side of the block. The Dodge dealer wants 1100 bucks to install the retro conversion pump in the tank and after doing some reading, many folks are saying to just buy the Fass DDRP-02 replacement pump, so I did. With the pump all hooked up, it won't work. It seems to be an electrical problem. Now I'm thinking that when my truck stopped running the other day, it wasn't the pump at all, but this electrical problem I'm now having. When I plug a 12V tester in the connecto…
