I have gone over every single ground and have done every test in the world on this truck! I am getting the peek-a-boo instrument cluster, it will work, then it won't(No bus) and I am at a loss! I even took the time to remove the ECM and clean all the contacts and scrub the ground points on the block behind it,by the way guys, not a bad idea to do that on high mileage trucks when you change your fuel filter you can get to the ECM really easily and mine had that white build up on it. Anyhow, the codes I get when the dash dies are.......900920921940950999I did the self check on the cluster and ALL the lights work. I also did the PCM connections including the white, square com …

I have an 01 24 valve, 193k, 6spd, 4" straight pipe, quadzilla, airdog 100. Decided to replace my leaking/lots and lots of play gear box. Did the gear box, pump, and hoses, had to move my truck out of the garage without hoses hooked up to gearbox (not the smartest I know) fired it up real quick pulled it out and shut it off. Now it runs really rough but I can hear my alt kick in/up and it smooths out then idles rough again. Starts fine but have quite a few codes, P0500, P0463, P0460, P1693, P0523, P0238, P0236, P1475, P1688 P1693. My theory is I just got lucky and lost the ECM while doing other repairs??? Will check all grounds in the morning and will test alt as well. T…

Last November my original LP and IP failed. Both were replaced at the same time. The LP was a Napa stock replacement. It failed when I got home from a 900 mile trip. I took it to a shop and they diagnosed the LP failed. When I got it back with a new LP and pressure gauge, the LP failed after 2 weeks. I took it back to the same shop, it's under Napa's warranty, they replaced the LP again. Got it back, 2 weeks later the LP failed. Being fed up with the Napa LP dying, I researched online on aftermarket pumps. I settled on the FASS 95gph mounted close to the fuel tank. Got it started and running great. This past weekend, I drove it to pick up a heavy load of wood, th…

Yes folks after 175000 miles and many of them with an edge set on kill and the last 10 k with a set of 100 sticks. Its toast. I can not complain at all. Its all original looking to me and even the converter is NOT a billet one. So here is my question. I can get a low mile bilt trans from my buddy that wants to put in a 5 speed. Or I have found a 2013 48re that has just 3000 miles on it. Truck was burnt in the cab and insurance wrote it off. Can one of these fit in my truck...should I even think about this at all. Thanks for any info. Regards Chris. And I might have messed it up all ready...68RE not 48re... sorry …

Just wanted to show my cheap winter front <$20 1. Thin sheet of sheet metal from Home Depot for $9 (got the one in the ducting department which had cardboard around it (which I used for the template) 2. Duct Tape 3. 2-sided carpet tape Used duct tape on the grill front to provide a good base for the 2-sided carpet tape (by the way, the duct tape by itself probably provides enough barrier, but doesn't look as good). Cut out the sheet metal using some cardboard for a template. Trimmed best I could to fit the openings with the sheet metal shears. Put the 2 sided carpet tape on the back, peeled it and stuck it on. Don't know yet how it will bear in the elemen…

today, i hooked up my gooseneck trailer and loaded some cattle, and i was hoping since i installed a new vp44, airdog165, ats arcflow, silverline stacks, my truck was going to have more horse power, but mywas dissapointed because my truck just cant pull a 24' gooseneck with 7 bulls (about 10k lbs.) When i take off the truck starts to shake and takes a long time to advance, i have a 2000 dually with the nv4500, with only 130k miles, i've had this truck for about a year and it is my first dodge truck. I like the fact that the engine is real simple and easy to fix, i also have a 00 duramax 2500hd with the banks six gun, and that truck pulls more than this truck. My truck is…

Hey all! This post my fall into the category of post whoring but I'd like to risk that in the hopes that it may help somebody else out when trying to decide what to do with their 47/48RE when it needs a bit of help. I want to be very clear here, the transmission in my truck had just a hair over 100k on it when I was contemplating this. I also know how it was driven since I know the PO of the truck. He didn't flog on it and took it in for service at the dealer every 25k just like clockwork. I felt very confident that it was in reasonably sound shape. I was experiencing TC clutch lockup slippage on the stock TC. It started when towing my 32 foot travel trailer b…

Just wanted to post my experiences here for others to learn from my mistakes! Went through my 1500 mile trans filter change and band adjustment yesterday. All went relatively smooth, front band adjustment was pretty straight forward. Draining the fluid was a synch with the Goerend pan and drain plug. Dropped the pan and adjusted the rear band, installed new filter and got everything else plugged up. Put back in the fluid and fired up the truck, let sit for 30 seconds or so, and went to head around the block. As soon as the truck went to shift into 2nd it felt like the truck was trying to throw me through the windshield! Slowed down and tried to spe…

I went out and started my truck today, temperature out was about -12 C. I started it and it went up on high idle after about a minute, didn't go into 3 cyl...and after about 3-4 minutes of ruunning, it kicked itself out and went back to a normal idle. Temp gauge was showing 120 on my attitude monitor if I remember correctly. I even tried the high idle fooler, wouldn't go back into high idle. Shut the truck off and restarted it and still no high idle...flicked the fooler on agian in finally in about 3-4 after doing so, it reved back up to 1200 rpm. Surprised me that the high idle would stop when the engine was still cold, I've had warmer days that it worked flawlessly

I hate to speak to soon but I can hardly control myself. I finally found the permenant fix for the torque convertor locking and unlocking. Its an nv4500! I found a donor truck on CL and got the guy down to $1800. its a 2000 model and it was a dually but had been converted into a mud truck. The owner rolled it 30 minutes into his first outing and the cab and driverside body got destroyed but the motor and trans/transfercase are still good. best part is I shouldnt have to source any parts except a shifter boot. Getting it for such a good price should enable me to at least break even when I sell the engine and my auto trans/transfer case. My auto is still good and has good f…

In Sept. I started having problems in my 98.5 with the torque converter at about 40 mph, tack dying, and sometimes no start every time. Milage dropped from 19 to 16. Dorkweed? said it was the crank position sensor. I was working 6 12's and driving 150 miles to work. I drove it until mid Dec. when I had time to fix it. It drives like a charm now, check engine light is off. Milage is still at 16. I think I need some more advice on the mpg.

Just a quick post about my new exhaust. I had only a stock downpipe and a short piece, cut off right before the OE muffler, coupled with a turn-down. That was it..So I got a Diamond Eye Galv. Steel 5" turbo-back exhaust from my buddy Jeremy @ Disturbed Diesel.Removal of the stock downpipe was a little rugged, with my (5) 6-inch extensions put together, a 13mm socket, ratchet, PB Blaster, and JB-80.PBB wouldn't do squat, so I shot it with JB-80 and out the two bolts came. As you can see, the new DP is 3" bell to 4" downpipe, to 5" adapter, then 5" the rest of the way. In the above picture, there's a 40" x 5" piece of tube not shown. This piece would later prove to nee…

The previous owner told me about it, and I've put 300 miles on it empty and it worked perfect but I hooked up a trailer today and it shuddered bad, when I tap the brake pedal it quits. I have been surfing ebaymotors looking up tranny parts. Have any of you guys heard of RevMax convertors? They have a single billet convertor for $400, but I think they have a core charge on them and I'm too far away to send one back. What convertors have you guys used? I'm also thinking of either a full replacement valvebody or I'll install a shift kit, they are pretty cheap.

Hi all, I need some guidance, but first my story how the problem came to be. The first part of September we went to the midwest (Iowa) from Utah with a 2700lb camper in the back. Truck was running fine. First stop in Sidney, Neraska I noticed what looked like a large wet spot on the drivers side rear wheel well cover. Looked like I ran through a puddle, but no rain or puddles insight. Checked under the hood and did not see any problem. Checked under the truck in the morning and no leaks or spots on the ground. Ok so far so good. Next stop in Lincoln, Nebraska and the wet spot had just about disappeared. Got to Altoona, Ia. and still ok. The weath…

Hi, long time lurker first time posting. Gotta say have read alot on this site has some good Info. Had a issue the other day with my 2000 24v auto. Drove it around all day fine, parked it in the drive way and changed my brake light switch since the brake lights stopped working. After that they still didn't work so I swapped my multi switch with another one, still nothing. Went to fire it up and got a no bus message on the dash, will crank but no start, fuel pump won't prime gauges dont work for volts or fuel level when not running. After messing around checking all the grounds which are tight and clean. Truck has 76k miles on it. Did some more testing, h…

Well I thought I'd share my findings on trans temps delivering hay lately. Been hauling the same size load on same road, made four trips over the last month or so for this example. Most of my other deliveries are closer to home and trans never gets warmed all the way up. Trailer is weighing in roughly at 15,000 and making a 70 mile each way trip at 55-60 mph. Takes a little over half way through the trip to reach its towing temp of about 190°. Running empty I usually see 150-160°. Temp probe is in drivers side pto cover, I installed it when I changed trans fluid to amsoil in the spring. I did however take the expressway home today because I was running short on time and …

Long time lurker, first time poster. Bear with me fellas. I purchased a 2002 with a flatbed for 3k (thought I was getting a decent deal) with wore out tires, an overcharging problem and a relatively bad oil leak. I knew I was going to have to dump some coin into the truck but now the frustration is getting to me. The first weeks I had the truck I didn't do much besides clean it, the guy I bought it from abused the truck to death and didn't fix much of anything. The guy would unplug the alternator, drive to work, plug the alternator in at lunch and let it charge for a bit and then unplug it and drive home. Who knows how long he did this for. …
