  1. ok, to some of you who have followed a couple of my posts in the last days... I have some more info on my problems:along with the intermittent check engine light, some engine surging, and dying at idle, (again, only occasionally)... I noticed the tach was bouncing from 0 up to actual engine speed. I shut it off while the tach was reading "0"..... and it would not restart. I tried in about 30 seconds, and it popped right off, and the tach was working fine.Today was the first time I actually got to 'test' drive this.. my son and wife are the ones who relayed the info to me, which I posted here.Today, I actually got to key the di…

Details on truck in question are in my sig. Video starts from 25mph up to about 70mph. WOT the whole way, and let off right at 3,000rpm... Seems like a big drop for an AD165 on a stock truck.... Cruising around town, and on the highway it holds 15-17psi

  3. My son called me last night, he was on his way home in our '00 Ram ctd. The little outline of the engine in the dash had been lit for the past couple of days. Is this the MIL?anyway, he said the truck started bucking and sputtering, and the tach was going wild. He shut it off, and he knew about the key method to retrieve a code. He called me with the P1693 code, but he didn't know to wait for the last half of the report.Long story short, He got home, the truck started fine and ran home perfect. the MIL light went out too.I had a minute to check this afternoon, and ran the code just like Michael explained in his video: cycle 3 tim…

anyone here with any experience with black diesel fuel? Like, which filtration methods or equipment you use, and any results (good and bad)?I usually have close to 200 gallons of waste engine oil per year, and have several older tractors to burn it in..my 903 cummins powered 4X4 would be a perfect candidate... Back in it's heyday, when it was in semi tractors, Cummins actually had a feature that would draw out about a gallon of crankcase oil and inject in into the fuel tanks this was done after X number of miles There was an onboard reservoir that would automatically replace that oil with new... The operator only needed to replace filters, a…

Evening everyone!I had a weird observation yesterday that was out of the norm. here it goes.normally on my engine when i startup cold with ambient temps around 75F it will idle around ~28psi max. (for testing only) when revved cold at same ambient temp it will hit maybe ~65psi max.last night sitting in the garage at work i started it up and it was around 75ambient and idle psi was 40-42, revved to test it peaked at 80+!driving home i kept an eye on it and once fully warmed up it went to normal, 25 stabel at idle and 59-62 revved to test. appx 2000rpm.tonight i changed the filter from cheapo to the usual purolator pure one with the grippy crap on it to see if there was som…

I posted this on CumminsForum, but also wanted to post on here for help. Just got my Airdog 150 in today from Vulcan Performance. I have a couple questions before I finish up the install. Since the new system bypasses the stock filter housing, do I just remove the housing, and the old block mounted lift pump all together? Also, do I remove ALL of the old fuel lines? There were two fuel lines ontop of the fuel gauge sender, but now one of them will be removed, correct? What do I block that old open port off with? My last questions would be about the wiring harness. It says in the owners manual about an Indicator Light Connectors. My question is this, are those for th…

  10. Started by Utah Dually,

I just purchased my first diesel truck from Nampa Idaho. It is a 2001 Quad Cab Dually 5 speed with only 65K on the clock. Got it from the original owner. The only mods he did to the truck was to put a 98 gallon aux tank and some Dr. Performance injectors and a jake brake. I have been reading about lift pumps and I am a bit confused. My friend who know a little about diesels showed me the lift pump on the dirvers side of the block. But I keep reading about a pump in the gas tank. I want to protect my VP44 and make it last as long as I can by upgrading the lift pump. The Blue Chip bolt on looks like a good option, but do I have to tear into the gas tank sender and cut up a …

Checked out mopars video on cleaning injectors and had one question, he did not say anything about having to have the injectors pop tested after cleaning so I'm doubting they need to but I thought I'd ask before taking mine apart. Thanks for your input guys!

Ok im ready to go on a turbo and exhaust upgrade. As for the exhaust im thinking five inch straight out the back? Or is four inch better? The turbo part i have no clue. My egt is always real high. Like seven eight hundred just driving around. I seem to remember seeing a thread somewhere where someones turbo actually cooled down egts when it spooled up.Not looking for horsepower specifically, but ill take it. more for a cooler machine. Also do some towing but not alot. Thirty to fourty boost is enough for me.Current turbo is hy35 stock exhuastPlease let me know, i have the money but winters comin so i need to spend now before motocross starts and i waste money on another ne…

I have the Raptor-100 lift pump and running it to the stock fuel filter on my truck using a big line kit from Vulcan.Had to change out the Raptor a month ago and when doing so found some debris in the big screen in the pump. Not much but I work with airplanes and do not want to see ANYTHING but fuel there. Friend of mine with a F-350 Ford is recommending a "Goldenrod" style filter to me, says that the Ford community uses them on their diesels with the "water-block" filters and has very good success.Anyone else doing this? I would put the filter between the tank and before the Raptor to protect the lift pump and still keep the stock filter in place. Thanks,FT

The 216 code showed up before our last trip south hauling 3,000 lbs. That was a 2400 mile trip. Just got back from hauling a little more than 3 k on another 1440 mile run south. Code shows up again, but, the truck runs great.... I don't understand it .Thought we'd be stranded changing the vp along side the highway .What gives with these computerized trucks? Man alive.... fuel mileage is good too

  18. Guys, I've gotten the go ahead from Mike to put out some feelers for an article that would be useful for us. Let's face it. The newest 2nd gens are a decade old. The oldest 12v rumbled off the line 17 years ago. Engine swaps, junk yard parts crawls and even "Parts Trucks" are going to become a part of our vocabulary, much like they did the Mopars of the 1960s. We need to put together a parts change article, or several articles to illustrate the changes from year to year on our trucks. Having a breakdown of the differences will let us go to the yard and know what will and won't work, and also having photos of all this stuff wouldn't be horrible either! Eventually, thi…

I have a 02 Cummins H.O. 6 speed. I have the BHAF mod, 4'' exhaust, and I have the BD boost elbow ( not installed yet) and I'm looking at getting a tuner. My main concern is which style to go with. I could get a Edge EZ or Quadzilla XZT style that doesn't do anything to the programming of the ecm or I could get a Superchips or Hypertech that only changes the programing of the ecm. The main thing I don't like about the Superchips style is that you can't change tune while driving, but I do like that I can put a boost fooler on it and get a little more power. Which style does anyone recommend? Pros-cons. Thanks

Ok i have my 02 that was crashed and an 01. Both are H.O. 6pds. The 02 is 2wd and other is 4x4. I want to put the 02 in the 01. Has way less miles and is just in better shape. Will i have to swap computers? I want to take the gauge cluster from the 02 to have the miles match the engine. Should i have an issue or will this be an easy swap? The other thing is the 01 has a 15k old VP vs the 02 having a 80k or so old VP. Are the pumps the same with the two years? I would like to take the newer pump during the swap. Thanks
