Hey guys, this is kind of a spin-off from my last no-start thread regarding my fuel pumps. But I had totally forgotten about another issue I had while flushing the cooling system. I had my truck idling for about 20 minutes before it shutdown, and the entire time, the all the hoses got very hot except the upper radiator hose, and coolant was not cycling through everywhere while I had the cap off, just kind of started to sizzle. So I put the cap on, and pressure still did not build and the upper hose remained cool. Is this probably a waterpump? If so, I would like to replace it while I'm doing my pumps. However a scarier issue I read, was possibly the front of the crank bei…

On the way home today, CHECK ENGINE light came on. Then a experienced a surging idle and intermitant tach signal. Plugged in code reader (Actron CP9180 and it can not establish communications with vehicle. I stopped by and tried another code reader and got the same results. What next?

I have had this truck for almost 3 years and love it. For most of this time I barely even hit the starter, it fires right up the second the starter motor engages. Well the last couple of weeks this has changed. First it started having to crank just a bit, maybe 2 seconds and yesterday and today had to crank for 3-4 seconds. It always has fired up fine and runs great, with the mileage being about the same as usual. Fuel pressure is the same, a low of 13 and high of 16. Tried to run it higher but it does not like it. One change is that the weather is now starting to get hot, with our hitting 96 today and forcast to be above 100 by the weekend. The truck has started a bit qu…

So, I can't find it anywhere anymore, but I thought I saw a thread on here talking about using toilet paper in an oil filter container. Anyone know about it and if so, is it still available?

My truck has been dead for a few days now and I was referred to this site for better, more useful help, so here goes... I was in the middle of a coolant flush, heater on full blast, truck was idling for maybe 20 minutes, then suddenly sputtered and died. It cranks but will not fire up. Throws a P0234 code for "overboost", however this seems to be irrelevant, as I was driving it unusually hard the night before, to check for oil leaks since I had just changed oil/filter. Anyways, the issue seems to be narrowed down to lift or injector pump, or both. Heres what I've done so far: added 5 gallons to fuel tank, primed pump 8 times, loosened injector line on one of cylinders whi…

Hi all, I just bought my first diesel pick up a 2001 Ram 2500 4x4 24valve auto last week. I have been lurking the forums and have found out alot of info, but have a few questions. Should I run an additive with my fuel to help lube the pump? If so what do you guys recommend? I see my first mod should be a fuel psi gauge so I will be doing it ASAP. I do a bit of drag racing and I have a Autometer gauge and a isolator so all I need is a way to hook it in between the filter housing and the inj pump. My truck has the lift pump mounted on the engine and also has had a small inline pump mounted on the frame. It looks like the same size as the metal inline fuel filters. …

i've been noticing things over time, and tried to explain them away.last summer the truck dies not very often when i use the jake and make a shift down to 3rd. did that like three times. then winter comes, and i use the 3cyl idle and the jake, and the truck doesn't stay running. turn the jake off, and egts are only at 200* in 3cyl idle, and the snap of that idle isn't there either, it really only sounds like high idle.last week it died on my 5 times in a day with the jake on and that downshift into 3rd.you guys think it is my vp44? it has 123k on it and i believe it to be original. i've treated it to fuel pressure and 2 stroke oil since i've owned it, but that's only been…

Alright you have the normal road noise ( tires on the pavement )the last week or so I have what I can only describe as the same road noise but it is just louder. It sounds like it is coming from the front center of the truck As you accelerate it gets louder. I finally got the boat out for the first time this year and pulled it to the lake. The ramp is unbelievably steep so I just put it in 4wd to drive up the hill. As I am going up the hill I hear what I think is the safety chain bouncing up and hitting the frame of the trailer. I go fishing and then put the boat back on the trailer put it in 4wd and start to hear the clanging again Get up to the top of ramp and realize i…

A few questions about bleeding air from fuel lines. After changing IP, and cracking 1,3, & 4 injector, should the fuel be dribbling out and a few air bubbles, or should it be a steady stream of fuel before tightening injectors.Another question - after tightening injectors and starting engine, should there be air in the fuel pressure gauge line

My tubo sounds differant than it did before, and I was wondering how to check it. I did visual checks and pulled the intake tube off. There is a small amount of play in the shaft but I don't know what the specs are. I still have good power and boost but EGT's may be up a little (200 more maybe).

I noticed while looking under my hood that I have a small leak around the oil filter head where it attaches to the block. The oil cooler is here and I am wondering if this is a problem with the cooler gasket. Is this something I should address imediately or is it something I can wait on for a few thousand miles until I get home? I really dont want to deal with water in the oil, but dont really have every thing I need here in Iowa.

I have an old fuel pressure gauge, and now replacing it. The existing line connects in the fuel canister with nylon tubing. What is the best way and location to connect new electric gauge sending unit? I was going to try the old location, but not sure if that is the proper location. Read several posts that say on the supply banjo bolt of the VP, and some say as far away from it as possible.I have 98.5 24v, new reman VP, AirDog Raptor 100 LP, and stock fuel lines from canister to VP, 1/2" from tank to canister.Any help will be appreciated, and images would as wellThanks

Omg the starter is super easy to remove rebuild and install!!! i removed the filter assembly for easy access to the top bolt but after i loosened it from underneath.as typical the battery side was burnt away and replacement of them was simple. i took the end off the motor to inspect the brushes and commutator and the look new but used, plenty of life on them!!

Got my rad out and flushing the system and a new thermo. The hoses dont look to be bad but since I there....... What is a good brand of hoses? I dont like autozone anything. So far Napa has been the better place but they are $$ in my town, but will go there for quailty if needed. Does anyone make silicone hoses for our trucks? --- Update to the previous post... Well found silicone hose kits....Umm yea gonna wait on those. lol http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_catalog/accessories/dodge_cummins_silicone_hoses.html http://www.mishimoto.com/dodge-truck-silicone-hoses.html http://www.mrbobsdistributing.com/dodge.htm So what brand in a normal hose?
