Just checked my brake shoes and notice grease inside the hub and drum assembly on the left rear. No dust at all in the assembly. The right rear side was full of dust. I suspect it to be the oil seal. Only have 90k miles, is this a common problem at this mileage? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Also, is it very difficult to change the seal? I have a shade tree Mechanic and a repair manual to go by. Thanks.Mohok

I know this has been hashed about before but I gotta ask. I'm thinking about a set of RV275's for my mostly stock '02 with 118,000 miles, see other stuff in my signature. I do haul a pretty heavy camper and tow a boat. The truck has a Quad ZXT+ chip thingy (pretty mild by most standards). My question is...amd I just wasting my $'s or will I see a REAL difference?Second question: Can I install them myself? I not a total idiot with a wrench and can follow directions. I was thinking it's also about time to adjust the valves too. Thanks to all for opinions.

I have a 99 5.9 I have oil leaking out the breather hose. I know most of these trucks leak a little bit but mine will leave a puddle every now and then, but it only dose it when I am pulling a load or running it hard pulling a lot of boost dose not seem to do it with normal day to day driving. I rebuilt the vacuum pump over the summer because it was leaking and I have checked all the vacuum line. I really and stumped anybody got any ideas.

Prior to the dead batteries... the truck kicked & fired off on the first touch of the key. Since then, it has not. The engine is turning over... batteries are not fallng down. Yesterday I tried with the IAT fooler off & xzt off. Today, I went to start it. I didn't see a wait to start light. Air was 45 degrees or so. It fired like one cylinder but did not catch. Repeated. On the 4th try it started & ran. It blew a cloud of grey smoke I saw in the mirror. I stepped on it slightly & it blew more of same before it cleared up. I'm clueless... but the first thing popping into my head is "Why isn't the grid heater running?" Is it fused somewhere? …

So, I'll be getting my truck back from the shop next week with a non-53 block engine and a stock rebuilt transmission. I've heard of people who claim they've replaced their trany within a year of new. What are the facts? How long does a rebuild last and what precautions can I take to extend the life? Thanks

Ok,I consider myself somewhat knowlegable on my engine. Some history first,I drove to Springfield IL to pick up a trailer, delivered to KS,noticed that vaccum pump to front case was leaking, went to my local cummings dealer for gasket(not a big deal, done several times before). Left to pick-up a trailer in Des Moines going to SD,truck purred like a kitten for 130 miles at 72 mph, loaded trailer and headed out,30 miles later felt a miss, loss of power, pulled in to a fuel stop a mile down the road, lifted hood to see oil all over the place(never lost good oil pressure(40-45 psi)20 psi at idle, shut truck down.Found that oil was leaking from push rod cover(this is where I get confu…

What are the normal numbers a person should see from the IAT sensor this time of the year? This being without a diode stuffed into the wiring connector or having one of Prowelders setup hooked up! I see about 107*. Thanks for any help.

Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out my 4wd problem. This is the first truck I've had with 4wd. So I do not know very much about it. I have opened up the front end before to do seals and whatnot as well as the brakes. I did this back in Sept. I've had a recent transmission rebuild done as well.I have used the 4wd multiple times before and after my tranny rebuild and a few times before I opened up the front. I have also done fluids on everything as well.I took a trip from Sandpoint down to Spokane on Fri. The whole way there I had to have it in 4wd. It functioned without a problem. Tonight though, I drove from Spokane to CDA which is about 30 miles. I had it in 2wd. Once I e…

I installed a set of RV275's about two months ago. follwed Mike's instructions here and the install went well except for some weeping at the head. 3 of them at first and they just progressed to all of them leaking and not weeping. Also my return tee was leaking and I put new orings in it about two weeks after the injectors. In my infinite wisdom i did not even think about the bolt on the back of the head:doh:. Dont know why I just did not. Well it was still leaking and getting worse. So I went home this week end and tore it all apart and re did everything. This time I loosened the injectors and tightened the crossover tubes first and then tightened the injectors down.It i…

Well………….I hadn’t drove my truck in over a month so yesterday I thought I would head up to my hunting spot and check it out. I was going to back in so I wouldn’t have to slow down too much when leaving. The snow was pretty piled up at the road bank and looked a little deep in the parking spot so I gave it a little extra to get all the way in. Now I’ve got the following codes that I think are a result of me throwing snow to get the truck parked. I rolled the key 3 times to get them. 1693, 0500, 0234 I have Superchip controller but I keep the truck in “STOCK” mode all the time. The Superchip says I only have 1 DTC the 0234 I tried to clear the code / co…

I`ve been studying these methanol injection kits. They claim substancial HP gains, along with cooler intake temps, and 200-300 degree cooler EGT`s Anybody have any thoughts on them?

Good morning folks...I have a 2001 with automatic tranny. It has (so I'm told) a DTT rebuild but the torque converter is just rebuilt stock converter.Truck runs perfectly fine until I put the plow on the front of the truck. First time it blew the tranny cooler line (again so I was told). We just got some plow-able snow. I did my driveway in am...no problem...drove 30 miles and parked it...4 hours later, drove 15 miles and started to do another driveway. Temps were not an issue when I started. On second swipe of driveway, trans temp shot up to 175...light came on dash...and O/D OFF light came on. I let it cool by running it in neutral. Tried to drive home and had to…

Here you go gang... I got done with the manifold gasket job on the 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 a while back and knew I needed to change coolant. The coolant was like 4 years old being I only drove the truck like 3-4K a year. So why change coolant when the truck just sits. Well here is my thermostat housing... As you'll see the housing is starting to rot away from the pH imbalance of the coolant and it attacking the metals. So needless to say I got the cooling system on the 1996 Dodge 1500 flushed out and fresh coolant and tap water back in the radiator. Call me crazy but it works fine...

Well, its time to give the track bar on the 99 some TLC. I have seen everything from rebuild kits, to OEM replacement, to complete aftermarket assemblies. I was wondering what experiences others have had, and what might be the cheapest, best solution?

Hey guys I've been having this issue for a while now and I can not figure it out. My truck has a bad miss when cruising through town and about 35mph in 4th gear rpm is around 1500. It will do it in any gear in the 1400-1800rpm range it's just worse at 35 and 55mph. Its not throwing and codes and I just put in a new IAT and crank sensor neither have changed how it runs. I put a map sensor in it last summer so that's fairly new also. It does it with and without the quadzilla plugged in and ive had a few different injectors in it in the past year and all have done the same thing including the stock injectors so i dont think that could be the problem. Could it be the APPS? An…
