hey there guys i have 3000 too spend on my truck i want to get a programmer and gauges for my truck and what else could i do for that money ?

Depends on your goals, personally I would get a Smarty Touch and do some transmission upgrades if you are looking for serious power. AH64 is our resident 3rd gen expert.

Step 1 - Clutch or Built Auto***

Step 2 - Gauges (I do not care for gauge/tuner combo)***

Step 3 - EFI Live with Custom Tune

Step 4 - Out of Money

****Most likely 3k will run out by step 2 if you have an auto

yep agree with above.

From what I know of Taz he's planning on using that truck for towing trailers and "possibly" hotshot work.

I start to wonder about 180k miles and the current health of the injectors. That alone could suck up the 3 grand in itself.

As others have mentioned, what is the status of the trans and injectors. 

I have a  6 speed manuel and injectors are in good shape still

AH64ID you might want to school Taz up on CR injectors and the failing points. I would have to say the truck is "True Stock" yet. I've never seen per say but talked to him enough to know some of the basics.

#1- Sell the Banks tuner and get a Smarty touch with pyro.

#3 - 2 stroke from here on out.

#4 don't fix what isn't broke from here and you will be golden. If you need a clutch replace it when the old one is worn out not just because.

 

Reason for smarty vs EFI live?

so how much can i get for the banks ? so where can i get rid of this banks tuner ?
 and i i have no idea how much its worth either so would like some help on it if i can please i just dont want to get screwed on it  thats all

Sorry for the delay. I thought I responded already.

 

The Smarty Touch is a touch screen programmer/gauge set. It has the option to monitor all the OBDII outputs (boost/rail pressure/load/IAT/etc http://madselectronics.com/pids2006.html) as well as a pyro.

The touch also comes loaded with Smarty Revo tunes. For a box tune the Smarty is untouchable.

The touch is also compatible with UDC, which is Smarty's custom tunes. You can tune yourself of buy custom tunes.

 

Since you have an 06 you are also able to run EFI Live. EFI Live has more customization than UDC, but it's all custom and doesn't have any incorporated gauges. That's not really an issue just the difference. You could tune yourself or buy a tune, just like UDC.

There are also the new HP tuners, but I have zero experience with them at this point.

 

So what are your end goals?

 

If you are after some gauges and simplicity the Touch is the way to go. If you are after a custom tune you need to decide on how custom it needs to be. If your sticking with stock injectors/turbo/clutch/etc then UDC has more than enough capability for that. EFI would really shine over UDC with various aftermarket parts; however, I run lots of aftermarket parts and UDC more than suits my needs and my truck is great to drive.

i'd have to say if you plan on hotshoting or being a tow pig i'd leave it stock as can be with added fuel filtration.

Yes and no. The stock programming is more EPA based than anything and a small custom tune can fix those issues without increasing any stress on the motor and increase a little power and performance. 

I remember looking at some of AH64ID tune graphs and seeing the CR engine timing more so retarded  than anything. So a tune of some sort does optimize the engine performance.
