Hey guys,

I've looked around for a little bit on this and haven't found too much so I was curious what exactly the advantage is of switching to a draw straw. I've looked at the Vulcan products and they seem fairly priced and easy to do, just wondering if it is worth it, or what the main purpose is to make this move.

Thanks!

Austin

Larger volume of flow.

Less pressure drop during heavy loads.

The down side is if installed wrong it could cause 1/4 tank issues where the fuel sloshes away from the tube and fuel pressure drops out.

On my system it gained 1 psi on a stock pump when I put it in. With a good aftermarket pump it would do better I assume.

I don't know much about the pros and cons of the stock fuel basket, other than the quarter tank issues and restrictions if you have and in tank LP, but I do know that Richard at Glacier Diesel Power strongly recommended that I should continue using the stock setup when I installed my Fuel Boss lift pump. I wanted to get a draw straw, but he said unless I was having issues with it, I should leave it be.

Eventually I am going to eliminate the draw straw and go to a tank sump with a protection plate under it so it won't catch any off road items. I like the idea of added flow to the lift pump (gravity) with no more 1/4 tank worries.

I have a drawstraw installed in place of my in tank lift pump (replaced with FASS) as well as 1/2in return line all into the stock (now modified) fuel module. I've ran the tank down below an 1/8th and never had any issues. From what I can tell is anyone having issues with 1/4 tank problems has done something wrong (even slightly) on install. I've had the same talk with the guys at Glacier and ultimately ended up going WITH the drawstraw and haven't had any regrets.

I have put very close to 35 gallons on a fill up, stretching the tank a little far. I modified my in tank pump basket with a kit that came with my AD. It has worked flawlessly for the past 6 years or so.
