Hey guys  I have a road trip planned tonight.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Long story short I was driving home pulled into the driveway noticed that I was leaking oil it is all over the side of my truck underneath the hood and all over the engine bay. I turned on the truck back on with the hood open to see where the leak was coming from and it looked like it was coming out of the valve cover gasket. Have you guys ever lost a gallon or so of oil from this gasket in less than a 1/4 mile? Or do I have a bigger problem?

I have attached a picture below for reference

The video might help. Btw the sound is totally new with this issue

  • That may have been part of your issue. You should have torqued the studs right to 125.   At any rate...head has to come off.

Is it coming from gasket, maybe just need a new one. There isn't much to it, take cover off and look, can't drive it this way anyway. These gaskets last 300k so who knows, maybe just a lose bolt.

That's a lot of oil for just a bad gasket. Especially if it went from no oil leak to old faithful overnight. I'm sorry I don't have anything helpful to add, I'm just a little confused.

Ok update the cover is off started the truck and the oil appears to be leaking from the ARP head stud at the front of the motor. It’s not coming from the gasket. What in the world causes this?

Figured it out...#25 head stud was coming off... re-torqued to 125lbs. All others were tight. How in the world that happened is beyond me. Does anyone use loktite on theirs?

Filled the truck back up with oil started it up and still having oil come from the front of the motor... when you blow a head gasket do you loose oil like that?

Here is another video. I dunno if this is symptoms of a blown head gasket or not. No smoke. No oil in radiator. Drove 5 miles home from work pulled in the driveway and she started leaking like no tomorrow.

Yes, that's what happened to me, sorry to say but I had to change my hg, not saying it's your issue but a pretty good chance.

Mine was leaking from front head bolt that is not under valvery cover, I guess you won't see the ones under the cover. What you can temporary do is take nut off clean very good and fill hole with rtv and then let it cure. I did that to mine worked for 4 years then I had to do hg.

@Dieselfuture did you see my latest video? The whole front of the motor seems the be leaking at the head?.

No sorry I did not, my phone won't let me watch it. I guess you're looking at changing hg. Sorry man

Funny or not so funny thing is that I blew oil out of mine same way bitting the crap out of my truck playing with v2 stuff. But I was on borrowed time for a while. When I took hg off there was other places where it was ready to blow. Near antifreeze passages and by thermostat housing. I think some of it was from PO not changing antifreeze on time. Or at least that's what I think.

@Dieselfuture @dripley I tried to upload a YouTube vid let me know if that works. Sounds like I am going to be removing the head next week... never had the pleasure of doing that. Anyone ever blown a head gasket with ARP head studs?

I was going to ask if your gear case could be cracked but that's definitely coming from the head...

I kind of does look like busted gear case, better make sure it's not before removing head. That's kinda where kdp is in that area. Some one I know just bought a truck that had a crack in case and it was dumping oil out like that.

Here is my hg job

And here is busted case

It’s got to be extremely rare for a 24 valve to have KDP issues right? I’ve done a considerable amount of reading when I helped my lil brother tab his on his 97 12V. Didn’t find a case where a 24V had the KDP crack the case?

Another supplemental vid for further reference of where the Leak is.

Your phone ripped the quailty making it hard to see exactly what is leaking. Yes people have blown head gaskets with studs. How were the studs installed? One at a time or with a new gasket? Was it you or a shop that installed them? There is an oil galley right where that leak is at iirc. Or it is a drain. I will look at mine this weekend when I pull the head.

@jlbayes  I installed the studs myself. I installed each one one at a time. I then torqued them in three different sequences up to 125 pounds.  It is still the stock head gasket in my truck only sees about 40 pounds of boost on occasion. I believe it is number 25 had come completely loose?....  with that stay coming loose I believe it allowed separation between the head  with the oil pouring out I believe it caused a major void in the gasket.  What do you guys think is that a good hunch?

Current situation... the 6.0 comes in to save the trip... this is bassakwards?
