I was fiddling around under the hood today and come to find out that there is excessive turbo play and a lot of oil film in the housing. I can see that the turbine has contacted the oil film and I’m fairly certain I can see a faint mark around the housing beneath the oil. What should I do for a turbo? Rebuild this one or go with a aftermarket or He351cw? Currently running Dap 75s. I think this has something to do with low low end power. Top end with these injectors is really good it takes off well but low end power feels very laggy.... Ipinions?

  • No,     Also RUN from CPP.  Dont give him an ounce of your money.

  • Again, it's not really limp mode.  Your transmission cannot lock itself into 3rd gear by itself to protect itself. What you were feeling is the map sensor is returning a static value, say 1 psi,

  • That was no fun. Think I would rather drive with half power than on 5 cylinders again.

It is called reduced power mode. Limp mode is the transmission. Issues with the map or anything that plugs into the map can cause the ecm to pull fuel. Been there.

Of course there's a fancy name for it

I have been there too. It will not to drive it. Frustraring but not harmful that i know of.

Shouldn't hurt to drive.

Test your map sensor's resistance.  Hook it up to some compressed air and see if the value changes as the supplied pressure increases.

Easier yet hook up a live data tool look for change of value.

Pretty sure mine is a wiring issue in the wiring harness. When I was having starter problems I grabbed the engine harness at the sensor grounds, gave a big squeeze and wiggled it around as much as possible and it stopped doing it. This is my electrically uneducated guess for the moment.

I had a Tahoe where I diagnosed a short like that.  It's a proven method now!

Crap I sold my scan gauge to fund other parts. That was stupid. The obdlink won’t work will it?

The truck definitely feels pretty sluggish right now. I’m going to test the map socket and check for 5 volts at lunch.

Also I plugged he boost fooler back in and it made no difference

When mine was acting up the scan gauge we read 14.6 and not move. The scan gauge reads weird for boost as it is but it always moved up when everything was working.

When idling it reads near 28.

Uh oh now I don’t have my scan gauge. Local Cummins parts joint has a sensornbutnif that’s not the problem I don’t wanna some the $$. If I don’t have a data tool do I just get a sensor or wait and see what happens? So far the

cide hasn’t came back but I have been traveling between a good at speeds no more than 40mph.

When mine was acting up you could tell it at any speed. 0 to 60 as 25 seconds or more. No mistaking it was doing it.

I had a nasty misspelling streak in that post lol. I meant that I was cruising between shops at 40 mph. It don’t fell just like it won’t go but just ever so slightly sluggish?

I unhooked the map and probed it with my multimeter and just got a irrational reading anywhere from 0 to 16 volts ac. Now I wish I wouldn’t have sold the scan gauge.

If didnthrow another code when I hooked it back up which is to be expected. When I drive it after while I’ll be able to tell if it’s in “low power mode” or not.

Considering people driving around on 5 cylinders

Measure DC voltage, not AC. You shouldn't have AC voltage anywhere. If you're seeing AC volts, that's cause for concern. If it's an el cheapo meter the spirratic AC volt reading might not be reliable anyway.

Ok I’ll try that. Also what about measuring resistance between the terminals of the plug?

I don't believe that will work on the map sensor but I'm not sure.

I went ahead and ordered a map from Cummins. Should have it tomorrow morning. I went and brought home a new boat this evening and there is a long 6% grade that I had to go up. The truck just kept losing speed slowly in sixth gear. This is just a small 16ft aluminum boat not heavy at all. Anyways truck was very sluggish climbing the hil. Also I may be imagining it but it seems like I all the sudden have a ton of valve clatter.

I’m wondering about the possibility of a serious boost leak. I might try to text that tomorrow.
