Wanting to get away from oil filters, looking at Donaldson #B105006, since there is a distributor close to me, I think they also carry Balwin Filters, just don't have the # in front of me. Any opinions?

This was one of my toys with 2.5 ton Rockwell axles. I know it's a bit different from what we have but I never had any water mixing with oil.

That was the easiest way to clean our trucks too, just drive in the river.

  • Thx, Mike,  getting the Donaldson ,hoping this might it in my old Bullydog RFI, if not I guess my iron guy will get that bullydog sheet metal. I guess they no longer care about 2nd Gen Trucks anyway.

Anyone using the Outerwears pre-filter? I put one on my BHAF and like it, but just noticed the elastic went bad on both ends.

Your air filter is probably fine but I would for sure, check your gear boxes for water.

If the seals are good and your vents ran up high enough should have no issues with water getting into differentials or elsewhere. When I had my toy truck I would drive through water where my *** would be sitting in water, roughly six feet off the ground, never had issues with water getting into my oil. I did grease my U-joints and King pins religiously though.

That's a big "if". Seals in general, only seal one way. Some may have a small dust lip but it wont keep out water. When you keep a vehicle a long time and drive it as many miles as Mike and I do, water contamination will rear it's ugly head. Maybe not today, tomorrow or next week, but trust me, it will show up. Ball joints, unit bearings and tie rods to name a few, not counting axles, u-joints and t-case.

The water crossing in the picture looked deep enough to even submerge the starter/solenoid. A warm component seems to create a vacuum when they encounter an instant cold water bath.
