Hi everyone my name is Andrew and I'm brand new to the forum.  I was hoping you could help me with my ECM problem.

I have no idea what caused my ECM to fail..  Is this a common issue?  Do I just replace it and cross my fingers or do I need to investigate further?  The truck ran just fine until I pulled in my driveway (luckily) and it died.  I had it checked out and was told the microprocessor fried and the ECM is deemed unrepairable..

Since I can't buy a new one (discontinued) do I buy a used one with no warrantee or do I get a reman unit?  If reman who do you recommend?  I've called a handful of remans companies and every place seems very shady with poor online reviews.  I'm moving my family back to Utah from Florida and I need this truck to get us there safely.  The thought of plugging in a new ECM and having it fail at any time with a big trailer in tow is really bothering me.  Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your time,

Andrew

edit:  Also my ECM looks to have been a reman anyway..  not sure if that matters but here’s a pic.

Me thinks it was the one in the bottom of your computer. Chickens will peck anything.

My email are not stored on my PC. All my email are IMAP and stored at the server. This allows my to sync all devices to the same email account and nothing ever disappears like POP3 email accounts which are most common.

Alrighty I put about twenty miles on it and so far so good.  I have to admit though I’m pretty nervous..

Fuel pressure gauge is a nice addition.  I’m seeing 14psi at idle and 10 at wot.

Eeeee Gaaaaahds..... you better turn that up you not supposed to be less than 14 at all times. My two rigs are set at 19 to allow for pressure draw down going up hills or hauling heavy.

Bumped up the fuel pressure to a nice 17 with a shim washer.

Well that was fun.  It took some effort but I was able to get it off the road and into a parking lot.  I can go start it right now and it’ll run but it randomly shuts off and may or may not restart.  I put about 120 miles on it before it started to act up.

looks like I have a few codes.  I’ll post these here so I don’t forget what they are.

I think you need to remove the engine wire harness, do a full inspection and repair any splices before condemning/replacing any more components.

That's a nice nice truck too. I like 'em all original like that.

I would have to agree with both of my esteemed colleagues. Pretty truck. You can spend alot of money throwing components at it hoping to fix it when it could just be a wire shorted or damaged. Or for that matter just a bad connection or connections.

How do you like those head light housings and what kind of bulb are you running? I have looked a some like that without the reflector on the bottom and thought maybe they would handle LED bulbs better without reflecting the light up into oncoming traffic.
