Really goes with price. ~350 HP and $400 http://www.dieselautopower.com/product_p/35-fslash-40%20turbo%20budget.htm in between 350-550 and $700-$1300 http://www.dieselautopower.com/product_p/s300g%2012m.htm http://www.dieselautopower.com/product_p/bd%20supe%20b%2094-02%20singl%201045220.htm 500-600 $1200 - $ouch http://www.dieselautopower.com/product_p/bd%20superb%20special%201045120-fslash-21.htm or twins basically how big compressor and how much flow (and spool up) someone else give you better idea from real world experience though since I am only 320HP:rolleyes:

Is there a bigger direct replacement turbo to where you dont have to buy special down pipes? I wont run over 350hp.

I think a stock HY35 will readily handle 350 hp while at the same time providing good drivability and a quick spool up. I would suggest looking into going to a 5 inch straight pipe or low restriction muffler and a better set of fuel injectors. Both of these will improve EGT's, boost pressure, and spool up time. Pretty much any new turbo is gonna cost you an arm and a leg.......some both legs and part of the other arm.:smart: Another option you might consider is installing a Holset HE351 variable geometry turbo. Here is an interesting article on this upgrade: http://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/dodge/1011dp_equipping_a_99_dodge_ram_with_a_variable_geometry_turbo/index.html

Shot my HX35 is handling close to 400 HP without a problem and still got fairly quick spool up... EGT temp are fair to OK with stock 3" straight pipe.

judging by the estimated price, if you wanted to install an exhaust brake, doing this would be a worthwhile upgrade as it doesn't look to be much more expensive.

Guess the question is - what didn't you like ?? I would have expected the turbo to be not much different from your orignal HY35 ........ just possibly 'slightly' slower spool up at low end ......... I think the compressor is basically the same ......... and then just reduced EGT and less of a choke at high end ? Apart from that - not much diff performance wise

you got a turbo and exhaust manifold for that much?please sir...tell me what/and what brands you got.:thumbup2:

Its a used HE351VE from a 6.7. Bought it on CompD.

I thought it was from a 01-02 hx35. But turns out its from a 96 and eveything was different. the oil tube was different the elbow was different. I made it work but I need one from my year of truck. And the wastegate was in the way of everything. It dont spool worth a crap and my egt are bout the same as my dang hy. I think my egt gauge is crap and not reading correctly. I got the bhaf and 5" exhaust and it didnt make much difference in egt. Shoot im running the truck stock right now and can still hit 1000* without trying. And Im not even pulling anything. Im not mashing the gas either. Maby I should stick with my hy but that hx exhaust houseing it huge compared the the hy so I dont know. Maby ill do away with both and just get a bigger one. I just hate to spend $1000 just for a turbo. But then again i got an exhaust brake(banks) coming so I better keep the turbo stock or it wont fit.

could always send the exhaust brake back and swap to the HE351 which comes with one....... geeze I wish I could lol.

how would that do on a automatic truck?

Couldn't say for sure, lot of it probably 'seat of your pants' type estimation.. Surely it would help some, it is pretty big.

I assume you have that HY35. The HX will drop EGT's big time because it doesn't choke out so easily.

HY35 is the only turbo that has a flange mount elbo that connects to the downpipe thru the fared compression fit...any turbo you upgrade to will require you to either replace the downpipe or modify yours..

Upgrading the exhaust to 4 or 5"inch wont help EGT's much if any...the HY35 has a 9cm exhaust housing and that elbo on the rear that connects to your downpipe is 3" or less ...However with a Pyrometer you should be able to run it fine as a DD if you are not Towing heavy, ..just watch thar Pyro.. cause you cant stay in the throttle very long at all....also a boost elbo and boost fooler will help keep it spooled up longer but theHY35 still runs out at 2000RPM even w boost fooler

I JUST TOOK ONE OF AND REPLACED WITH AN ATS AUROA 3000 & Pulseflow Manifold

Hope this helps!
