That is totally awesome! I've often thought about trying that myself.

thats crazy !!!:thumb1:

Way too much rowing of the gears... :duh: I'll keep my NV4500 with the 5th gear problem...

Nobody said you HAD to use all 10.. I would skip 5. Add one gear per ton added to truck

My old boss put a Cummins engine in his 99 suburban. Have no idea how he did it.

If you have a week off and your ambitious its easy for shure if your using a pre 1994 chevy and a 12 valve. Mine was done and street legal in a weekend but that was working nonstop and a bit of prep before that is perfectly streetable its just the engine is to far forward for its own good(racing) :thumb1: so im redesigning that aspect as for the trany couldnt tell you... Im looking for either a built 47 re or something lighter yet stronger than what i've got in my (d.d.) hopefully and those trannys are to heavy for there own good in our trucks imho.

Took me about 6 days from start to test drive to get my 13sp in, and 2 more days to make the doghouse and get it sealed up.it just bolts in, what's the big deal?

Ummm just nuts and bolts huh??:ahhh: and some cutting, welding, reshaping, and covering!:lmao2:

Is that in an essentially "stock" truck???? How big is that tranny????? What's the OD ratio in that bad boy?? The NV5600 is big and heavy..........that one has to be larger and heavier. Will it fit without any cutting??? CajFlynn should look into that hauling those multiple big assed yachts all over the country!!!!

that's all in the thread linked in my sig. ratios, fitting, etc etc :thumb1:

I should merge that and my 24v swap into a build thread on my '97 here sometime... maybe when I'm not terribly busy hauling stuff around myself :ahhh:

Those are some wicked rigs for sure!!!!:drool::hyper:

After driving a semi all day, I find that my NV4500 is enough shifting for me.

  • 1 month later...

I wonder if it would be good for towing in the mountains of utah.

I drive a semi all day long, rowing the 10 speed as needed. Way too much shifting to put in my truck. unless that 10 speed is synchronized, I can shift my NV4500 a whole lot faster.

if you look at the ratios, the top 2 gears likely match your 5 or 6 speed - assuming it has as much OD. It seems more common than not to have a truck OD be .83 rather than .73. Trucks pick up the gears on the low end. but it's really nice down there. Low and Reverse are about the same as low range 1st and R in the old setup with my RTOO. They're 7.something.

So really not much gain in the hills in a 7, 9 or 10sp. When you get to split gears in a 13 or 18 is when you gain some advantage since you can essentially drop half a gear. Honestly not a necessary advantage. I use the splits and such more often in town with low speed limits than for hills. I run the steepest stuff in the NE pretty much any time I go anywhere and rarely need to grab a gear on interstates unless I'm grossing 23-24+. Just let 'er eat.... :spend:

That said, for a non-daily driver, I'd do it again every time. I LOVE towing heavy with it and not having to worry about beating my light duty trans to death if I lug the motor. I don't care around town. but I'll loose a drag race every time and if I commuted much, I might get tired of it.
