Posted November 17, 201212 yr My truck is a early 1998.5. It dont have a vent tube in the front of the engine (puke bottle) is this common on the first 24 v?
November 17, 201212 yr Owner So you already got the TSB done? http://articles.mopar1973man.com/2nd-generation-24v-dodge-cummins/29-tsb-technical-service-bulletins/44-tsb-09-002-02-oil-overflow-from-the-front-crankcase-breather
November 17, 201212 yr Author I didn't know about the TSB. I will chck if there is a tube by the starter. It has been in for all recalls that they send me, I sure don't remember that one. Thanks for the info
November 17, 201212 yr I wish mine had it, have seen a few trucks with it done but never got a good look at where the tube came out at.

November 17, 201212 yr Mike, I don't have much under hood time on 12v trucks. I hope to change that someday though.
November 17, 201212 yr Owner Mike, I don't have much under hood time on 12v trucks. I hope to change that someday though. Sorry... It comes out on the tappet cover near the starter.
November 17, 201212 yr Author Mike, I just looked there is a vent comes out right above the starter and hangs down behind it. I guess the dealer when they had it in for a recall did the TSB. I ordered the truck special, I don't guess they would of done this at the factory. Looks like a lot of work otherwise.
November 22, 201212 yr I'm thinking the early 98.5's must've had the tappet cover breathers like the 12V's maybe? Mine had it too.
November 22, 201212 yr Owner I talked to a buddy in Louisana (towhungerford) he told me the 12V tappet covers will fit a 24V block so if you which to just change out the cover and put a old school 12V tappet cover on you can...
November 23, 201212 yr I talked to a buddy in Louisana (towhungerford) he told me the 12V tappet covers will fit a 24V block so if you which to just change out the cover and put a old school 12V tappet cover on you can... I take the 12v tappet cover works just as good for venting without the oily mess of the puke bottle?
November 23, 201212 yr Well I will have to lok for one. I have to change my tappet cover gasket on of these days and just might swap it out. Good info. Thanks.
November 25, 201212 yr I have a 98 24 valve and it has the tube on the front but I dont think it came with a puke bottle. My buddy has a 98 just like mine but my other buddy has a 98 thats been updated with the cover on the front.
November 25, 201212 yr yeah the 12v tappet cover is interchangeable and a number of guys run them during a replacemain problem is havent found a decent one cheap and used is always risky on a cover like that - although the gasket is seperate anyway I thinkthinking when I finally pull mine - might just go billet and be done with it....
