This might be a great test of the "There are no stupid questions" rule...but I have to ask.For those of you that have manual transmission, which gear to you start out in when under no real load? I've heard of people doing starting our in 1st and others starting out in 2nd but I would rather hear people's thoughts and get more of an understanding rather than burn up a clutch earlier than normal. Thanks for the input.

Given that 1st is a "granny gear", if you will, it is not generally needed to start off when no load on the truck.I generally started off in 2nd with both my previous MT trucks, unless loaded/towing/on an incline.burning the clutch up is more of a user-error issue (dragging it out, riding around with your foot resting on the clutch pedal, holding the truck still on an incline, rather than the brakes, etc.)

2nd gear here unless I stop on a steep incline. My Grandson used 4th while I was letting him drive it. Still have not figured that one out yet, but that would qualify for user error. I changed my stock clutch out around 225k and it still had some life in it. All that with using 2nd to launch.

I always use 1st just because my clutch is a little grabby in 2nd. I can easily do it but have to deal with shutter and I don't like that. I literally let 1st out with no fuel and shift to 2nd. Just my .02 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free

Hey, as long as you don't lug the engine, why not?

Usually first unless I need to move quicker than second. Changed clutch at about 146k, truck does a lot of towing. The stock clutch and the Edge did not get along very well. The one I put in has worked flawlessly.

I pretty much always start out in 2nd unless I have a load on then I drop down to 1st to start out, or if my passengers really don't like the initial shudder from the dual disk clutch

I use 2nd gear and sometimes 3rd if I don't make a complete stop. That's with a NV5600 gearing.

2nd gear start, even lightly loaded and I usually get out of the clutch before applying any throttle.

Because of my 3.55 gearing and the 35" tires I always start out in first. I tried second a few times and I feel like it lugs way to much. And second is pretty grabby. Truck shutters like previously mentioned.

I have 4.10 gears and I start in 2nd even with a 6 x 12 single axle trailer in tow. Unless im on an incline, but otherwise np.Sent from my RM-820_nam_att_100 using Tapatalk

1st gear and reverse are the same gearing! Starting in second is the best option if you want to keep up with traffic.

2nd for me unless very steep or heavy load.

I have the 6 speed, always start in 2nd unless loaded/towing or real steep hill.
