  1. He's doing well. Spent a week in the trauma unit. Going back tomorrow for skin grafts. Healing up quickly. Don't expect any long term problems.
  2. I'm open to any suggestions. Yeah, I was worried about the headlight bars bending upon contact. Will solid bar bend without too much trouble? What size? I was thinkjng the non hydraulic bender.
  3. 2-3 weeks for delivery. That'll give me time to get welding stuff together. I'm getting one set of 6" light holes in the bumper for driving lights. Mount fog lights on the cow pusher.
  4. I've ordered a u-weld it front bumper from CPP. They are currently not supplying the grill/light guard portion. Strictly bumper. So I'll need to come up with that portion on my own. Although I'm not expecting the same level of quality as a Buckstop, for the cost of a Buckstop I can get set up to weld it myself. I'll need to buy a bender from harbor freight for the grill guard. Easiest might be a pusher type unit with vertical bars and the. Round tube horizontal off of that. Keeping my eyes open for design ideas. But something along the idea of this, although I'm not super excited about this exact design. But you get the idea. Bumper doesn't extend far enough forward to come straight up with the bars, so they need to extend forward. Or this.
  5. Pulling the radiator looks like quite a job.
  6. So when the bars label says 550# is that one bar or for the set? When you recommend 1000# is that 2 500 bars or two 1000 bars? I do notice that the ride is better with the bars. Especially bounce.
  7. The trailer I bought came with an Eaz lift. It came with 500# bars. How do you size the bars? Gross trailer weight is 7,000# and 23' in length.
  8. Maintenance history is unknown. He has owned it for about 6 months. It's not here at my location, so I cannot comment on the specifics. He has a friend (mechanic) who is going to attempt a diagnosis. I'll let you know what he comes up with.
  9. I was under the impression that your own insurance doesn't cover you. It's 3rd party liability. Is this not true?
  10. Well, for the cost differential of the CCP weld yourself bumper and a Buckstop I could probably get set up for welding it myself. Assuming that a 115v wire feed would handle the job of 3/16" metal. Which it sounds as though it would. Any concern about frying my computer welding parts of it while on the vehicle? It appears that at one point you need to tack the frame support brackets in place while on the vehicle to make sure of a good fit. I'd paint it with Hammerite paint.
  11. How did you find out which side was bad?
  12. CPP does have the weld it yourself kit for $499 including shipping. Be aware, they are no longer supplying the grill bars. Just the bumper parts. Shouldn't be too hard to add the bars. Only one bent tube on each side. Rest are straight and angle cuts.
  13. It would be easy to spend double that on a "nice" bumper. The classic from buckstop is $1,750. But I have not seen a nicer finished or one that offers the features that's less expensive. I too would love to do a weld yourself, but lack the facilities to do it. I'd have to pay a guy to do it. I can check into what he'd charge, but I've got a feeling it would be right up there with the finished one if you've got to pay a guy to weld it. I don't mind doing the grinding and painting myself, but the welding is the part I lack.
  14. My son will be getting out of the hospital soon, don't think he'll be riding his Harley soon. He has a 99 1500 ram pickup with the 5.9 gas motor. Has been over heating. He replaced the thermostat, didn't help. He's convinced the water pump is next. I've never seen a water pump fail for any reason besides weeping and bad bearing. Not cause over heating. What else is a likely reason for the over heat problem?
  15. I don't have a welder. Makes it kinda hard.
  16. That's a Buckstop bumper. Now located in prineville, Oregon. Also the guards that come off the bumper and protect the grill and headlights are bolt on. So if you damage them you can just order a new one. No welding or cutting. Or if you want to do some work on the grill you can take it off.
  17. Problem I see is that the frantz is a bypass filter and not a primary. I'm not sure what kind of flow you'd get through it.
  18. $1,749 total damage per the estimate today. That's enough for a good bumper.
  19. Here is the bumper I'm planning on getting on a white truck like mine.
  20. It must be pretty special. My son doesn't seem to have plans to quit riding. In fact he's really worried about the damage to his Harley. One of the new mat black 800cc I think.
  21. Any of the ranch hands include full brush guard? Cover clear out past headlights? No dealers within 100 miles of me. Buckstop is 40 miles away from me. Made locally. But the one I want is $1,700. I only have a $50 deductable. Comprehensive for deer as long as you stay on the road and don't hit anyone else. Took her broadside. Darted out in from of me. Didn't see her until she was right on my headlight area. Going to go get an estimate and see how close we can come to $1,700.
  22. I was able to continue. If you have the deluxe AAA, the RV version they will tow your vehicle and RV. Had a friend, transmission went out while he had his camper on and towing boat. They put the truck/camper package on the flat bed and towed his boat. $1,200 tow for no cost.
  23. It was self inflicted. Caught some gravel and lost control. No one else to spread blame or financial responsibility to.
  24. On the 4th of July I by a deer going 60 mph towing my travel trailer. Lots of momentum and didn't feel it that much. Pushed the right side of the bumper in and tore up the rubber. It did out a slice in the right radiator support. I am attempting to upgrade the bumper to a Buck Stop bumper. Been on my list of mods, so I figure I might as well take the money to restore to OEM and pay a little extra to get a welded steel bumper with brush guards. The deer didn't fair well. Toast.
