  1. Pick whatever you want. You can change to anything you want when you get it
  2. Basically more fuel sooner. Makes the truck smoke more. I don't think there's a difference in top-end power.
  3. So what about those people who don't have the money to go out and buy a car whenever they want? What about the people who need to have a truck with them all the time to haul things in the bed? What about the people who can't afford the maintenance, insurance, and registration for another vehicle? Getting 20mpg moving 14K pounds around isn't likely.... maybe a realistic goal would be a good idea though. Either way, if you can save $$$ at the pump I don't think it's a bad thing. BTW the quad will likely improve towing mileage as well.
  4. I started at 69% to make things pretty clean. Or maybe it was 68... Either way, somewhere in there.
  5. Wouldn't it be nice if these trucks had an ambient pressure gauge that you could tap into? You could make the truck defuel 5% or so per 1psi difference. Basically automatically compensating for altitude. Hmmm the ideas. -__- Wish I had mine to keep testing with.
  6. wow. Injector sizes make a huge difference! Exactly why I liked level 2. Stopped fueling at 15psi which was way more than enough power for cruising and accelerating.
  7. Remember not to pull too much fuel down low. When I was doing the same thing I pulled so much fuel the truck became sluggish. I then remembered I'm likely never going to go from 0% throttle to 100%. So I started tuning for how exactly I wanted to use the accelerator. If you want to go from 0% to 30 or even 35%, tune it so that is smoke free for you. Your normal tune should have some smoke from when you go from 0 to 100% but not excessive. Hopefully that makes sense?
  8. You're kidding right?? I agree with Nick. No need to worry about HP / Torque. As long as it pulls your trailer as good as it did before, there's no point. Drivability is key, and considering I could drive very smoke free with 300s Mike should be able to make his as clean as it was from the factory with 50s.
  9. Good to hear it's a mutually beneficial relationship. I'm sure you'll love just how clean the box is without having to drive like there's an egg under your foot. If you want to go crazy someday, I've got a 4K box sitting here collecting dust.
  10. This would be a good thing to ditch. Look up BHAF. They filter much better and you don't have to worry about dusting the motor. P0237 is the MAP sensor. I would try some dielectric grease on that first. P0123 is the APPS (accelerator petal position sensor) Sounds like it's not adjusted right. P0216 - This is not good.... This is usually the death code for the VP44. P1689 is no communication between the ECM and VP44. These are serious codes that point to a vp44 failure. Read over the article for each code, and you can do some testing to determine exactly what is going on. Here's the codes: https://mopar1973man.com/cummins/articles.html/24-valve-2nd-generation_50/51_engine/obdii-error-codes_94/?page=1&d=4
  11. We seem to have different issues....
  12. Might, might not. Thick oil in there could stop it while it's cold. Depending on how the bridge falls off the rocker or stays on it and lifts off the valves can make a difference. Just thinking of cheap things first
  13. Right about 1" ID and 3" or so long
  14. These have solid tappets though.... I'd start with doing the valve lash. Maybe you've got one a bit loose that is slapping around?
  15. Targeted. Tons of trucks in the area have gone missing recently. At least 4 were taken the same night as mine, and at least two the night before.
  16. Haha.... yeah, the problem with the manuals is they can't hold the power I want to make! Next truck is going to shoot for 1,500hp with a set of big triples My original plan was to de-tune the VP truck and make it a nice tow pig (which it was) then build what is described above.
  17. Good to hear! If mine isn't found I'll be going to a 6.7.... already have my eye on one! I'm going auto though. I see a 48RE swap in my future
  18. Better make sure you do the correct mods.... upgrade that transmission From what I've heard, the trucks they found have been torn down pretty far. I'm going to call the investigator tomorrow and see if he can give me some info on the bust. Added up all of the mods for the insurance company today. $37,210 in aftermarkets / customozation (Assuming full price for everything) (Does not include all of my time in labor) $1,795 in personal items that were in the truck's cab / toolbox $10,000 for purchase price. Total loss = $49,005 ugh....
  19. Rumor on Facebook in my area is 15+ stolen diesel trucks were found in a chop shop..... maybe something will come of that.
  20. I would say it's because the axle moves rearward as the springs compress? Might have to do with the geometry so the pinion angle doesn't drastically change as the suspension compresses.
  21. Please, no one feel bad if you find something and it turns out to not be it. I'd rather leave no stone unturned than risk skipping over it. I appreciate everyone keeping an eye out. When the police tell me I can, I'll release everything I know to the public. Hopefully I'll be speaking the the Denver special divisions for stolen vehicles. http://www.lakewood.org/police/investigations/the_metropolitan_auto_task_force.aspx
  22. PM sent If you have a link, go ahead and post it here. If you'd like to call me my number is
  23. It used to be three, but the area has dried up in the last 10 years, so we are averaging 2 now. This year is pretty much only 1 due to early rains preventing us from cutting. We cut about a month late, and at that point the heat prevented the grass from coming back very strong. Most of the alfalfa fields got 2 this year though. The sickness has subsided, now I've moved onto the next stage; Finding the people who took it! Thanks for keeping your eyes open!
