Teardown and Rebuild
I see the trans manuals are up. Thank you! Got the front end back together Cleaned up the aluminum apps holder and made it shiny. Also cleaned up the "afe". Right now I'm waiting on a bearing for the trans to show up (Reverse needle bearing) then I'll stuff the trans back in. Also waiting on the bed to get back from paint. I got most of the interior back together so that's a huge win in my book. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the exhaust... I think I'll str8 pipe it right now, and if it drones put in a re resonator. Thoughts?

Alternator Diode
Well... you say that but I wonder what real world data would say? Mike, which one do you have? How many miles? Mine is original at 188k and goin strong.

Teardown and Rebuild
Sorry Mike I was unable to get pics of the tools today. Today was not a good day..... These transmissions are pretty dang simple.... I can't see the 5600 being any different other than another set of gears, meaning it shouldn't be bad with the correct tools. When I have the chance I'll get pics of the tools I have and list the others with pics from the book. dripley, thank you for reading everything! It is a pretty dang long thread and I look forward to the days of posting about how the new parts work together.

Teardown and Rebuild
Will do. I don't have a couple of the parts but I make due... I did, but it's so hard to give accurate descriptions of exactly how to do things. I have the rebuild book and am considering a way to scan it in and place it in the download section.

Teardown and Rebuild
These engines were not designed for synthetic oil specifications. When you break them in, the rings will have a much harder time seating if synthetic is used. I still may switch after, but that's a debate for another time. For tonight: Pulled trans apart and have most of it back together. I just have to get the mainshaft back into the case, put the keepers in and set the lash. I did find the source of my rough 3rd and 4th gear shifting.... Some of the carbon fiber came off of the syncros. I'm not sure if the PO ever used the wrong oil or what, but it should be good to go for a long time now! Honestly these transmissions are SUPER easy to rebuild. Other than the special tools, everything is simple. I just kept everything in the exact order it came off and put it all right back on. 4th gear 3rd and 4th gear Here's just a bunch of pics I took. Old stuff I forgot to take a pic of how it sits now. the stack of gears is on the mainshaft now. I also got the front end ripped back apart to do the main again. (Don't worry I put covers over everything before I went in!)

Low Smoke Passing Power
Try tapping the pump..... it will be a different truck!

Tips to pass diesel emissions
Nick - To your timing comment. At slower RPMs and no boost lower timing BTDC will create less smoke. If anyone in my "general" area is in need you are free to use my smarty.

Alternator Diode
I'm interested to know if this is only good for the denso alternators. I believe mine is a bosch (1 plug and 1 post, not two posts)

Teardown and Rebuild
Let it cool, adjusted valves then ran it again. Mike here is the link. If it doesn't work go to hamilton's site, click on FAQ, then cams, then how do I break in my cam http://www.hamiltoncams.com/howshibrmyne.html School me on CJ oil?? I am using rotella 15w-40. School me on the amsoil CI 4+... is that synthetic? I was told not to run synthetic in this motor. My original plan was to change over to amsoil full syn but not anymore. I did put 3 bottles of zddp additive in it. Talk about expensive at $12 or so per 4 ounces. I've got a front main oil leak so I'm taking the front end back apart tomorrow. The machinist who ordered the rebuild kit installed an wear sleeve on the front of the crank, but I'm thinking he didn't order the rebuild kit with a seal made for the sleeve. I also know he installed the sleeve before the rebuild kit showed up, so I'll give him a call tomorrow.

IT RUNS!!!!! Video coming later. Barely any smoke, surprisingly. This thing runs soooooo smooth. I only ran it for five minutes (Per Hamilton instructions.) But it's nice to know it's running and seems to be running properly.

Gauging interest. Possible 99 Ram 1500 part out
Please post things you might want to buy. Please no PM's until I decide what to do and so that we can keep first come first serve. I just want to see if it's worth parting out right now. These have already been asked. I think they are hazed over like typical lights but the rest is ok. I'll check and report back. Correct. 02 is all mine.

battery tenders
Weird. My batteries sat three months without being charged and I never had a problem.
-
Scan gauge
I believe so. The scangauge works off of how much fuel is being burned, not the sending unit.

Teardown and Rebuild
Don't be rubbing your bad juju off on me Nick! Tonight is the night though I did find out my bed isn't going to be done this weekend.... So I did buy a 1999 second gen half ton with a blown head gasket last week that I may try to drop a motor in and re-sell later. For now I think I'll throw that bed on the truck so I can start breaking the motor in. I don't want it sitting sitting for the next week so I guess the truck is going to be Red and Blue for at least a week.

Teardown and Rebuild
As soon as it started leaking I knew what it had to be... But surprisingly it was easy to seewhere the antifreeze started!

Teardown and Rebuild
Thank you! It's definitely been in-depth! I'll start taking trucks when I graduate! A new one is already on the way. You can't see it in the pics but the bottom is bent under really bad. Guessing previous wreck or something. Thanks for the compliment! It's turning into a love-hate relationship now haha. We haven't farmed for almost a week. Consistent rain every night. So I got everything together..... Filled oil, pushrods in, valve lash set, serpentine belt on, pour some antifreeze in it and it dumps it out of the pump weep hole. Just my luck I guess. I'll try again tomorrow.

Teardown and Rebuild
Yeah... I have lost almost all help from my dad due to allergy attacks, and my brother goes to bed before 9. My brother helped pull everything, but it's been pretty much a solo job except for putting the new parts in the engine and dropping it in the truck. You just want to see it smoke from my lubed up pistons

99 Auto / Lots of New Parts / Engine Error Code Issue
Here's the codes and how to test each one to see if the sensor is actually bad. http://articles.mopar1973man.com/2nd-generation-24v-dodge-cummins/59-obdii-error-codes-cummins Honestly though I doubt all of those went bad at once. Mopar1973man should join in soon and he's great at helping diagnose.

Teardown and Rebuild
Thanks guys. It takes FOREVER to do it right... If I was slapping it together just to make it run then I could have already done it three times.... I will say this staying up till 1am then up at 5 for work is killing me. Here's tonight's progress Damper... one last picture. (Finished up the final touches on wiring) New return line for the power steering. New O rings on all of the A/C lines. and hooked them up. Then put in the intercooler, plastic shroud, radiator, and condenser. I know it looks like hell.... I'll be getting a new one before the A/C is charged. I hooked up both supply and return lines to the radiator. I then filled up the oil filter and spun it on. Clocked the compressor housing and V band elbow, and I hooked up the charge pipe from the turbo to intercooler On the drivers side I dropped in the fuel filter assembly and hooked up the supply line. Got a new O ring for the dipstick and installed it. Hooked up the fuel pressure sender, hooked up the charge pipe from the intercooler to intake horn. I also ran the vent tube off of the 12V tappet cover. (5/8 line is VERY tight) Here's how she sits now. I'm really liking how the wiring turned out on it. I wish I would had done this a long time ago! Not sure if I'm going to button things up and get it running tomorrow or save it for thursday and rebuild the trans tomorrow. Either way you should see an update!

100% correct Mike.... BUT for now I'm done switching modules and changing things around. I think I've experimented enough with my four programmers

Teardown and Rebuild
Let's keep it on topic gentlemen.... Not much show and tell tonight. I drilled the crank for the fluidampr pin kit. That was fun... Then I made my brother hang on to the clutch while I torqued the dampr bolts down to 90 ft-lbs. Then it was all wiring... I think I have it how i like it now. I ran another loom across the front to hold the TST, MPG/high idle fooler, and pyro wires. I then ran everything with looms inside the metal wire holders. Wiring things properly takes forever....
