  1. My "new to me" truck is a 2005 Ram 3500 auto and it has a Banks exhaust brake and a CBC Smartlock on it. It is vacuum operated, but doesn't work. There is vacuum to the actuator when needed, but it appears the diaphragm leaks. A new actuator from Banks is $137.76 (part #55062). Anybody replace one? Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the Banks brake.
  2. I hope you guys have better luck than I did. I filled out the form online on November 2. The THIRD time it was done over by Kidde I finally got my extinguisher. That was March 14th of this year........
  3. Guess what? lol I'm still alive...... Had a few things change in my life so now maybe I will be here a bit more often. Just a bit of info, wife and I sold our house about a year and a half ago so we have been full timing in our RV since. We upgraded to a 38' fiver last year and even upgraded from my 1996 2500 to a 2005 3500 CTD auto dually! Believe it or not it only had 88k miles on it! This is what my new (to me) ride looks like. Tom
  4. You do know you can get crimp connectors with heat shrink already on them, don't you?
  5. I never did figure out how many hours on it, but the tractor got home last Friday. It took a new valve/solenoid on the HPFP ($500?) plus four new injectors ($400 ea x 4) and there was some work done to the seat. Now to see how it lasts.........
  6. Well, we got it to fire on a couple of cylinders yesterday. If the return was pinched off then the transfer pump forced enough fuel to the injectors to make a bit of smoke, but not enough to keep running. We also discussed the problem with a very knowledgeable tech and he said there is something in the HPFP that is 'not functioning'.
  7. The fuel pick up just may be dirty. We do get some fuel out of the line going to the HPFP, but there doesn't seem to be any pressure, just flow. Another thing I found out is there is no restricter in the return line to the tank, so I don't know how much it is supposed to have. JD doesn't seem to want their service info out to the general public. Russ, I do remember the Datsun pick ups. I used to have one! Bill, with the way CR engines are fueled it is possible the HPFP may have failed.
  8. Hey guys and gals, I have been asked to help get a tractor running again. It is a 2007 JD 6430. The problem started with what is believed to be bad fuel. It had a steady miss and was a bit harder to start. We drained all the fuel and refilled with good fuel, and changed the filters. It started, but had the miss. It progressively got harder and harder to start. Finally it got to where it was backed into a shed to hook up the baler and it quit. Since that time it has not even fired on one cylinder. Another guy started on it and at this time it has had a new transfer pump (think lift pump) and all new fuel lines (the old ones leaked slightly). The closest John Deere dealer is about 100 miles away and now they seem to think it is a solenoid/fuel control on the high pressure pump (we have fuel to the injector (high pressure) pump, but nothing coming out). The only code we get consistantly is for low rail pressure. The solenoid/fuel control is $500+ at one dealer and $600+ at another. I am not going to throw parts at it so does anyone have any ideas?
  9. Yep, very unfortunate. If you look at the forum for Mopar1973man Web Site there is a thread that explains the reasons. http://forum.mopar1973man.com/index.php?/topic/9604-attention-site-closing/
  10. Dang, Cowboy, I like that explanation! That is exactly what I was taught including the BTU statement! Anyhow, I have a difficult time expressing that stuff in writing. I am glad you are more 'articulate' with the keyboard than I am.
  11. That makes me want to think there is a fuel deliery issue somewhere, but are you hearing a miss or are you hearing a lope? From what I have heard about the only thing the drilled cross over tubes do is cause a bit of a lope.
  12. Yea, you can read about the first repair here: http://forum.mopar1973man.com/index.php?/topic/8746-mntom-is-broke-down-near-standish-michigan-is-anyone-near/ Then the second repair 1300 miles later: http://forum.mopar1973man.com/index.php?/topic/8834-i-aint-happy/
  13. Goerends has stock and billet flex plates, but they are a little more expensive than the PRW. http://www.goerend.com/index.cfm?Page_name=dodge%20diesel%20parts How does a flex plate get "Designed to maximize the valvetrain efficiency of your Dodge Cummins engine"?
  14. Good. It is not a good feeling to be 600 miles from home towing my fiver and hear that "BANG"........ Although it seems like no tranny shop I talked to ever heard of the drum breaking. They all said it was common to strip the splines.
  15. I always thought the parts were individually balanced and all you need to do is assemble them?
  16. I know that Goerend converters are great. If you are not going completely wild for power, you can use the stock transmission with an upgraded VB and converter. You may also want to think about upgrading the input shaft. I am at 365 HP to the ground and I can't make my 47RE slip but I did break the center out of the front drum.
  17. Here are the directions for installing a lockup switch: http://www.tstproducts.com/Torque%20Converter%20Lockup%20Switch.pdfFor a temp sensor you could use this: http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ACUTEMP_ADAPTER but in my opinion you should use the hot line out of the transmission like this one: http://www.carid.com/dorman/fixed-auto-trans-oil-cooler-hose-assembly-mpn-624-352.html?gclid=CMvb4KbYycMCFYgAaQodvxgAvg
  18. Josh in Zimmerman only charged me about $900 for a reman pump, new bushing, and new front steels plus completely dismantling it to make sure the rest was OK. I wound up sending the converter back to Goerends for repair (hub had a groove in it because of the bushing failure) and that cost me about $350.
  19. The NAPA in Henderson would probably be your best bet. The others are more of a walmart type of part stores in my opinion.
  20. Shouldn't you be able to get something at a decent auto parts store?
  21. Did you ever talk to the guy in Zimmerman I suggested?
  22. Uh oh...... The BIG words are coming out!!!
