  1. Update since it has been almost a month since I started this thread and a few days past 4 months since the quest began. Last week I did another body composition test and was impressed. weighed in at 235 and my frame to muscle mass weight ratio is now perfect and I went from 80 lbs of excess inflammation / fat down to now at 15 lbs extra, this in 2.5 months between tests. Scaled the last couple days at 231 so officially now at 50 lbs lost in 4 months, the last month has been harder as I have been traveling a lot for work and in a ton of seminars and meetings so have not been as active throughout the days but have managed to get my half hour daily workouts in so the weight loss has slowed a bit the last month but as of this week it was back to a normal schedule again. Goal is to get to a solid 225 and then start a different workout program to build a bit of muscle in the mid section and back and long term is to hold at under 230. should be there within the next month. I feel awesome and my back has never felt so good in the last 20 years now that I lost the 50 lb feed bag that was weighing me down up front.
  2. Old biker to determine this via your own research did you at least put the same brand new air filter in at the time of every oil change, if not then it is a flawed experiment from the start? If possible do you have the oil analysis reports from each progressively to post up so I could look at them for myself and see what you saw to make the determination of which was the better choice?
  3. Just got back from our mining conference and the lab tech from Donaldson filters put on about an hour long presentation which mostly consisted of fuel quality and additives and such. Most of what is being hashed through here is all subject to the actual sulfer content of the fuel which a lot of the mines sample regularly as does Donaldson and all say they get fuel analysis back with near zero sulfer up to 16 ppm sulfer so all of these lubricity reports are hinged on the sulfer content of the base fuel for starters as sulfer is what gives the fuel its primary lubricity. He said there are roughly a thousand additives on the shelf for diesel fuels now days and every company uses a blend of a lot of them. They showed an internal video of a 2 micron fuel filter that AH64ID would have liked, it was under normal use during a start up and you could see all of the debris that passed through it at initial start up in slow motion, made a big statement that no matter how good a filter is they are not rated at vibration and normal use just static #'s. Most of what plugs filters is what they called additive fall out. I will have to go through my notes but he did say one thing that struck me interesting, he said all filter mfg's make and sell water separator filters as the OEM's require them but from a fuel stand point he said they are a waste of time and money with the chemical make up of fuel and additives they do nothing to help separate moisture from fuels now days. He had a long talk about how moisture in fuel is such a huge issue now days with the low sulfer, there are ways to separate some of the water from the fuel in bulk tanks but past that it is impossible.
  4. Just a few of the more popular ones in the area listed below. A lot of ACME electric rental stores have used tractors mainly Kubotas for sale if you have one close by. http://www.bid-2-buy.com/index.php http://www.bismanonline.com/ http://titanoutletstore.com/ http://www.equipmentpicker.com/ http://www.usequipmentbroker.com/default.htm http://www.tractorhouse.com/list/list.aspx?pcid=2935375&etid=1&dlr=1&catid=1100&bcatid=464
  5. It can be done but as stated the amount of relays and added wiring that will be needed to add just 2 lights will not be worth the effort unless you can find a 12 to 24 converter. AH64ID they are HID so you can not just change the bulb, HID lights run off of a ballast so the entire light system is different and they are very expensive to replace parts in plus HID has a high initial amp draw to get the ballast to warm up and then they warm up and come to life the amp draw drops off.
  6. Hi Tim, Welcome to the family! We share lots of knowledge here and also have a lot of fun along the way as you will find if you look around.
  7. From a point of having a ton of experience in this at the coal mines and as a heavy diesel tech for my whole career once an injector fails the rest are really close, we tried at the last two mines on several brands of engines to just replace as needed but it yielded nothing but more down time and troubleshooting time invested and the trends never changed, once they started to go bad they all went so to replace them all at once makes better sense from a production and overall cost standpoint. Plus what every industry has figured out except the automotive industry is that new injectors and engine life in general can most accurately be determined by gallons of fuel burned over the components life rather than hours or miles. most engine manufacturers give engine life in expected fuel consumption now. On our new CR Cat engine we change injectors out at engine half life and on our Detroit MTU engines we change them out 3 times in the life of the engine and the unit pumps twice. In most applications if under warranty the failures are generally replaced one at a time due to having low miles or hours ect. and if not under warranty most people in general or owner operators of OTR trucks or ag or automotive are sticker shocked at doing it the right way and replacing them all and just nickel and dime things and do nothing more than what is needed to get by.
  8. Well I was half right and half wrong lol.
  9. Yeah not sure why we can't link videos since Mike did the updates, I have referred to the old school method of doing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIQ9A28XapQ&feature=youtu.be
  10. 1998.5 was the cross over, couldn't get the quad cab until 1998.5 which is when the cross over from 12v to 24v was this is why the quad cab 12v is sought after as there were not that many made.
  11. If I could go back in time and redo the 2 I would have owned they would be a 1998.5 quad cab 12v long box 2500 or 3500 and next would be a 2007 mega cab with 5.9 CR in 3500 single rear wheel.
  12. Yep, stalling out while backing up with a trailer and overheating them is what kills more transmissions than any other reason alone.
  13. If anyone in this state has a dead end job it is by personal choice alone and no other reason. Congrats on the new gig. If it is large Cat dealer the pay should be above average and even better once you gain experience. Our local Cat field service techs are pulling down 6 figure incomes here in ND. Mid $30's / hr with tons of OT or what ever DOT regs let them get by with.
  14. It is not the tranny that fails it is the torque converter lockup clutch that fails due to little surface area and low line pressures from stock. Spend 1500 and replace the TC and VB and let your worries fade away, you are at the end of the TC life at 150K, pulling that heavy I am surprised it lasted that long but if you are close to stock and drive reallyeasy it is possible. On my 02 I could get the lockup clutch to slip at 30K miles with nothing but an Edge EZ on a stock rig and that was without any load or trailer on it.
  15. Sandy Hook is a black Hole of missing info just the same as the missing flight 370 which the gov has made all info classified now.............tell me someone doesn't know something when you can not get info on it using the FOIA route.
  16. Well in all reality if one is going to 19.5 it is for load capacity and longevity while doing so in an OTR world, they are and were not intended as offroad units and this is why they require higher pressures as well. Of course this is just my internal commons sense talking not backed by any facts.
  17. There is still good news for citizens, other citizens who jump in to help! Here is a story from Houston that just hit the interweb today. http://www.shtfplan.com/headline-news/watch-this-is-what-happens-when-the-good-guy-has-a-gun_04302014 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR2apkX9zwk
  18. I have not read up on the Mont. case until now and I feel he was not properly trained in gun use or protection rights if he just started shooting without identifying the target or giving a warning of some sort first but the Guy from Minn went too far, he had been robbed a couple of times and was waiting for them and even recorded his events which is what is going to send him to the pokey for a long while as he cut off his own chances of it being considered solely self defense when he killed the first guy and a long while later he killed the woman when she came down the stairs and did a second kill shot to her head even and admits it. In his case he took self defense and turned it into cold blooded murder.
  19. Remember that police are citizens just like us and the ONE thing to remember is they do not carry fire arms to protect us, "THEY CARRY FIRE ARMS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES!!!!" just like we have the right to under the constitution which the supreme court seems to think they can legislate from the bench now and nullify even our natural born rights.
  20. GPH all depends on load factor and conditions, average 50 GPH and as high as 80-90 gph and they use a gear driven gear type fuel transfer pump that fits in your hand.
  21. Back when Sears still offered lifetime warranty on shocks and struts I ran the rancho 5000's on several pickups over about a 15 year period and they all gave up the ghost at about 30-35K miles like clock work and always in the winter time. Go in warranty them out and go again, They quit offering the lifetime warranty about 3 years ago now so I quit running the Ranchos from sears at that point when I sold my 02. I have adjustable height front Bilsteins on my 2010 1500 hemi and regular Bilsteins rears and they are the first set of them I have tried and like them so far but they have only been on for a few months so long term is still to be determined. On my 05 I have the KYB shocks in medium stiffness ride grade and they have been awesome and have been on for way longer than any shock I have ever ran, I think these have about 50-60K on them and still ride good. Every vehicle I have owned from new or near new the factory OEM shocks usually last about 60K miles on average. If it is just a leveling kit standard shocks are generally rated for up to 1.5-2 inches over stock height.
  22. I used the same filter in both my 05 and 02, in fact if you buy one from a dealer they do not carry the 10 micron filters anymore only the 7 for the applications that it fits including the later VP and CR rigs.
  23. Heck that is what all of my stuff normally looks like. Pretty rare for any of it to get a good cleaning. Living in the country and along a gravel road defeats the purpose of cleaning things anyhow, gets dirty just being parked in my yard.
  24. I just took a shot of Jamaican rum to help you celebrate. Hope the next 50 are fun for you.
