  1. Welcome to the site. I joined last month and found lots of good info on here.
  2. I cut my winter fronts out of an old Simpson helmet box last weekend and they do work. I wish that I would have done it last winter too.
  3. It's nasty when they rust like that. The only thing that saves them around here is a good oil spray when they are new and every year after. The only problem with the oil spray is that when you have to work under the truck you are going to get really dirty and greasy from it.
  4. I have a 28' elclosed trailer that I tow and I swear that the passenger side towing mirror is the worst that I have ever had to back up with on any truck. Even backing up just my truck in the dark is bad so I have a couple of lights that i'm going to mount on my trailer hitch and tie in to the backup lights.
  5. Too cold for me anymore.
  6. Pretty good price on the dually beds on that site.
  7. Nice install. I can't wait to get a decent system on my rig too.
  8. Yea I want my high beams on with my for lights too.
  9. Yeah of course we wanna see the vid of the gas tank r&r, lol. I see your vids, read the info and then go and fix my own junk.
  10. Well I don't even see the holes but I need glasses anyway, lol.
  11. They look kind of dirty to me but then again I'm new to the diesel thing so I guess I don't know what a real dirty injector looks like. I do like the 2 cycle oil and in the spring I'm going to try the oil that I used to run in my racing go kart called Burris Hi Rev Castor 2 cycle oil, but during the winter I'm running a low ash snowmobile 2 cycle oil.
  12. That's great info. I can't afford one right now but hopefully I'll find somebody around here that had one so i can enable my high idle.
  13. It looks like the floor that I usually work on except that mine is gravel, actually it's a driveway.
  14. The reason that I saw it was the transport company was on strike and the vehicles were being driven by car jockeys. I was too young to drive one because of the insurance but I wandered around and looked at all the new vehicles like the Lil Red Express pickups and some different models that were available. I remember sitting in the pickup and on the dash it had a light that said "glow plug" so I turned the key and it started right up and it had the coolest sound but man did the truck vibrate, and it shook like a wet dog when I shut it off, lol.
  15. Does anybody else remember when Dodge pickups had the Perkins diesel engine? I seem to remember it was around 1976 or 1977. I saw a red one at the shipping yard and it was the only one that I ever saw.
  16. The way that I adjusted it was basicallly with no throttle pressure until the pedal was pushed a little and it upshifted nice and fast and didn't downshift when I pushed the pedal more which is what I wanted except that then I could tell it wasn't enough throttle pressure to apply the clutches properly. I need to change the ratio at the cable connection. It needs to be moved closer to the fulcrum of the shaft so it can have some throttle pressure and still not downshift when I push the accelerator pedal. If I need it to downshift I can grab the shifter and downshift it myself but they try to idiot-proof these vehicles for the general public and all you end up with is a bunch of ****.
  17. I just went outside and put the cable back to where it was when I started today. When I worked at the Ford foundry they used to have scrap to melt down from another manufacturer and it was automatic transmission parts. I looked at the stuff and couldn't believe how cheap the parts have gotten. The piston in the drum that used to ba a nice cast aluminum piece with a replaceable set of seals is now made of tin with a set of seals bonded to the tin piston. The planetary carriers are lighter duty and of a poor quality. You're right about the automatics that we have now that they aren't worth a s--t. Too many electronic parts to fail, go out of adjustment, head damages them etc. All a bunch of junk.
  18. Yea I know what you are saying but I throttle it light and I'm not afraid of burnt clutches anyway because it won't be worth a damn til I rebuild it. I bought the truck used and usually ppl that don't rebuild/repair things don't have any idea when they are abusing them either. If you can't tell by the sound of a machine if it is at operating temp then what more can I say. I've seen ppl jump into a stone cold vehicle and rev it up and away they go. That is fine I guess but even if I were a millionaire I still wouldn't damage things for no reason. I repair machines for a living as a Millwright and I work on cars as a hobby. I'll probably move it back a little bit but it don't really matter because the way the trans works it ain't too good anyway and I'm sure the previous owner abused it more than once.
  19. Next time i'm under the truck i'll take a look and see what's up with the fuel lines at the tank just to get familiar with it. A better idea would be to do it on a hoist rather than working on my back all of the time.
  20. I got a quote here in Canada yesterday of $199 for the E7153 Airtex pump but the woman that owns the parts store said that they have had alot of problems with some airtex products and wouldn't recommend it. That pump retails for $341.97 in Canada. It is $161 at Autozone in Detroit and i only live a few miles from the border which is why i buy most of my parts in the USA. Less $$ = more cents for me. The other problem on my truck is that the airtex requires removal of the stock banjo fitting from the quick disconnect at the stock lift pump location and after 8 years in salty winters that quick disconnect is rusted shut and won't release. I haven't looked to see how far back that line goes from the inlet of the stock lift pump. All the way to the tank maybe? If I did go with the aairtex pump would the stock location be ok? It seems like it should be moved to the frame rail too since I think these pumps like to push rather than pull.
  21. Man this truck is starting to make my race car parts look like a good deal, lol. I don't understand why any of these pumps are so expensive. Hopefully they are made either in the USA or here in Canada. What do the big rigs use for lift pumps?
  22. Great diagram. Does anybody know how much a new apps is?
