Show me your Frantz Toilet Paper Bypass Oil Filter Setup!
I wouldn't be able to sleep nights if I had one of them on my trucks!!! Imagine all that that toilet paper in your main oil gallery and piston cooling nozzles. But I guess they must not be that bad if you all approve of them. What kind of toilet paper is that anyway? Probably not one or two ply right??

Water in floor of cab
True.... That is a fact!!! They all do, this one is the best generation though for long term in my opinion... Which is why I have it... I just went through $6,800 dollars in repairs on my 2005 Duramax.... Injectors went out, then one of the replacements went and melted a piston.... SO bottom line is I have done my research first hand with all the different diesel trucks, 03 6.0 ford blew up on me, 05 duramax too... These are the great trucks, no more complaints from me!

Water in floor of cab
I think I would actually like to find an auto truck like this one, but 4x4... 6 speed is pretty cool, and I like that it seems pretty heavy duty and stuff, but golly gee, it seems like it might be an expensive beast to keep up with, with all the problems I hear about on the forums. Like the old boy on here that had his blow up on him...

Water in floor of cab
New carpet is in, now all I need is a new wood grain dash bezel haha. Anyways, thanks for the help. Figure I would post pictures of the finished product. ---------- Post added at 09:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:09 PM ---------- Next project is pulling the engine and cleaning all the nasty undercarraige and frame from all the puke bottle (I will be fixing that with the mopar1973man reroute) and getting the tranny checked out and new synchros and bearings while it is apart. And giving the motor a nice detailing and several coats of Cummins Apex Red paint.

Water in floor of cab
All I know to do is to go ahead and do a fluid change, the stuff that you put in these in Pennzoil synchromesh or some stuff from the dodge house. That third gear grind you are getting is your 3rd gear synchronizer is worn out.... Only going to get worse, try to double clutch or skip third if you got a 6 speed... I know a place in okc, ok that will go through a 6 speed for 1,000.

Water in floor of cab
Also, the shift boot, I think I will just have to order a new shift tower...... 125 bucks on quad 4x4 for anyone needing the same thing. I guess I will just go change the synchromesh and clean the boot I got currently real good, then use a lot of plastic wrap and rubber bands for the time being I guess....

Water in floor of cab
Thanks!! Well here is what I came up with... Spa pipe fixes everything... I think what was happening was because there was no drain tube, the water simply lapped over the end of that and went into the cabin past the o-ring... I THINK that is what was happening, because it wasn't clogged. I was able to pull air through it with a shop vac. SOO we'll see if that fixes it.

Water in floor of cab
How would I check that? I looked around and couldn't find anything tube like... Do I pull the cowl grille? Thanks, I will check with them. ---------- Post added at 03:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:26 PM ---------- Is that it?

Water in floor of cab
Noticed this when I was changing out my carpet for a new carpet, water everywhere, everything is sopping wet and I had no idea! Where could this be from? It isn't antifreeze, just water. Probably something to do with the a/c system. Maybe this is why my truck fogs up on the inside so badly. Please help so I can get back on the road!! THANKS!!! ---------- Post added at 02:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:30 PM ---------- OH also was thrilled to death to notice the shifter boot is torn... Is this serviceable or does Dodge sell this as part of the nv5600 only? hahaha, kidding. But seriously, how much would one of these be? I am glad I noticed this, no telling how much dirt and crap is in my tranny.

Service life of VP44
It should have lasted a lot longer than 2 years and 20k miles or whatever it was. I understand what you mean though, it would not be possible to own a truck that you had to dump a grand into every 20k miles. Maybe call the shop and explain what is going on, maybe they will help you out. In this economy, a lot of businesses will go that extra mile if it means keeping a customer.

Service life of VP44
Where did you get the pump from? When I bought the replacement vp44 in my 01, i got it from arkansas fuel injection and they give a lifetime warranty on the pump, at least they did 2 years ago when I bought it, I would look into them and see if they still give a lifetime warranty. I'm sure others on here would be thrilled to make the trip to arkansas for a lifetime warranty vp44

what does the side of your block say
Kinda curious what these little numbers signify. I guess as long as it doesn't have a 53 I am ok, but I am just wondering what everybody else's engine blocks have cast into them number wise, might be kinda interesting to see. driver's side pass side

need new dash bezel
Is that right. Dadgum they are proud of that stuff!!!! Well I bought this truck from my grandfather who was the original owner, bought it new like that. Has the woodgrain dash bezel, tan leather seats, tan dash, tan doors, tan everything pretty much and woodgrain door handle inserts on the driver and passenger insides. I asked him about it this morning, and he said he never touched the truck, what I see is what it came with. I don't know. I might have to live with it, but it got bad enough last time I pulled it off to install a new cd player, I had to jb weld it together... Definitely has seen some sunshine

need new dash bezel
Ok, I have a 01 Ram 3500 SLT+, has that wood grain dash bezel. It is cracked pretty bad, and I am just wondering if anybody knows where to get a new one or one that isn't cracked?

I am on vacation and broke down need some help
Dang we are neighbors practically, I live out by Shawnee. Best place around here if you have problems with the nv4500 or the 5600 is Blumenthal in OKC. I am about to bring them a nv5600 I found at a junkyard for $500. If you bring it to them they will tear it all apart and inspect for $475, put in all new synchros for $280 and bearings for about the same, and if you don't need hard parts, you are good to go for under $1,000 and that is for a 5600. No telling how much cheaper a 4500 would be to have gone through there. ---------- Post added at 07:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 PM ---------- I sure appreciate the information, I think I will go and buy one of them I like that.

Mopar man: Sure is pretty up there where you are at. What brand of exhaust brake is that exactly? And would it work on a 01 with the 6 speed?

Clutch and tranny
Cool, I didn't think about it that way. I think I am going to look into those coolers, that is not a bad idea at all.

Clutch and tranny
DO NOT overfill it. Doing so inhibits proper oil slinging. They designed it to properly lubricate itself with 4.75 quarts- up to the fill plug. Overfilling is all over the internet forums with people doing it successfully, yes, but blumenthal in okc as well as Dodge says that overfilling will F one up over the long term. Never will do it with mine, that is for sure... If anyone says to, I would think twice... Lot of design went into the transmission, if they wanted you to fill it up with 6 quarts or whatever, they would have put the fill plug higher. I have a temp probe on my 6 speed tranny, and when I tried the overfilling thing, it ran 20 degrees hotter. Then I got smart, and called some people about it. For one, if you buy a tranny from Dodge, and you overfill it they will void the warranty. Just my opinion on this though.... ---------- Post added at 04:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:02 PM ---------- Yeah that thing must have been a bear to shift and get in gear if that clutch disengage cylinder wasn't fully disengaging it.

That sucks, sorry this happened to you... Here is a link with some great pictures of a teardown and rebuild of the nv5600 if you might want to take a look. http://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-cummins-diesel/112548-diy-transmission-work-nv5600.html

I am on vacation and broke down need some help
OH man... you are not going to like what I have to say... I lost 3rd and 6th gear all of a sudden in my old 2002 6 speed truck 2 years ago, had it towed to Blumenthals in OKC, $3,900 dollars later, I was back on the road.... The nv5600 6 speed in these trucks are very expensive to get worked on i hate to hear of another one breaking.... ---------- Post added at 12:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:53 AM ---------- But yeah, it is really difficult to find a tranny shop that will work on the 6 speed... i called about a dozen in my area and none of them were able to work on it because it is an obsolete unit and much too heavy and complicated to touch. Better call around wherever you are broke down near and find out if any local shops can work on the nv5600.

Couple easy questions from a newbie
Thank you very much sir, if I wasn't broke I would donate to your site.
