Exhaust Brake Minimum Setup 2002 Cummins w/ Manual Trans
What I was told is my springs are good enough, poundage wise. Dont remember number but stock is 40 or 60? I'm under that, but currently in the process of getting plumbing parts to double check back pressure. Was 8 pounds under whatever directions stated for more strong springs but that was when installed in 2005?.

Exhaust Brake Minimum Setup 2002 Cummins w/ Manual Trans
I had an exhaust failure of sorts. Going down long grade towing 9k rv and one of the plug bolts in the exhaust pipe came out. Scared us both when it let loose. At the time all we heard was a hell of a noise and didnt know what was going on. Burned a hole in weather stripping about size of silver dollar and melted trans dip stick handle. Sounded like when you take car thru car wash and the water hits your roof, except lots louder. After calming down and wife having death grip and the handle of the B pillar with one hand and other hand straight arming the dash, found reason for noise that was louder than chain saw, called our mechanic 600 miles away, left message and he never returned call. That was beginning of me thinking our mechanic not as good as he was. Spent night in RV park. Called BD exhaust place the next day and they explained what the 2 ports were for and just replace the brass plug and put a "security wire" type thing on plug, so plug cant work loose. (At the time I didnt know if any other parts were missing or not). Most brass plugs have hollow head that I could find, but need solid head to be able to drill hole for wire (and not leak). Finally found solid brass plug drilled hole in the head and used stainless steel dowl or "security wire". Stainless steel dowl also better known as bicycle spoke? When I got a new dip stick for trans, I think I got ripped again. Dont remember the price exactly, but not cheap. And wife didnt fall sleep when I was driving for many months after experiance.

Exhaust Brake Minimum Setup 2002 Cummins w/ Manual Trans
Slowly being a operative word... I've often thought all that back pressure hitting all at once is not good. A better system imo would be for back pressure to be applied sequentially over maybe 3-5 seconds...insteading of slamming all at once. Dont know how to make that happen though.

Bottom of dipstick looks melted?
Nub about size of bb? As in bb gun? Common on older flat nose class 8's, that dip stick was 5 or 6 feet long. Round bb keeps from getting caught up on stuff when shoving back down hole is my opinion.

Towing air bag recommendations
When mine are at 5 pounds, (the min psi pacbrake says to have in them, loaded or unloaded) mine are very close to rubbing. If you are thinking about other stuff hellwig has a few set ups I like. But you need to talk with them to get something you want, not what sounds good on their web page. No little stones rubbing holes in bag, if one bounces in there. No air leaks. But also not as adjustable for different weight loads as air bags are. http://www.hellwigproducts.com/

@Greenlee" fell victim to similar traps but not for color TV viewing afterwards, I bet shows looked great in color, how long did the effects last? lol " Daughter in law gives me big frown when grandkids ask me about me being "evil " in my childhood. But today all grown up (I hope) feel guilty stepping on a bug.

As kids we used to get other kids to hold on to spark plug wire and then pull the cord. Used to be able to bait them in..we told them after just one pull of the rope, you'll be able to see color in your TV at your house. As only the better side of town had color TV back then.

Truck coolant flush
We get in mail a water report once a year from water district. In that brief report a link to a "full" report is listed that gives more details of alot. Worth looking at for stuff like ph level and arsinc. Heavy metal ype stuff. We had campground over 20 years, and had to do a water test every quarter because state said our well was classified as "community" well. Report showed year after year our water was very good. Made great coffee also. My annorod thing in RV lasted long time at campground. But when we fill timed in RV, places like Yuma Az on well water we could only get 4 months on annorod. Big difference in water place to place.

Better rope... that might be the answer. Had to replace rope on a two piece ladder. Picked up some stuff at a commercial fishing place. Really tuff stuff, I'll see if they have rope that small diameter.

An additional fuel filter
Thanks folks... my next step is to see how common the filters are to get, and physical size measurements to see where it will fit. My Cummins place doesn't have good selection of filters sold individually. I'll look up the links that have been posted lately to see how online filter places have available. Thanks again.

An additional fuel filter
Thinking I (want or need) more fuel filtering. Right now no problems with airdog 95 or 100 (cant remember which) going from tank to airdog directly to vp44. 2 or 3 micron I believe. Want to install a 8 or 10 micron before fuel goes thru airdog filter. In late 90's or 2000's at work some of our trucks had water and fuel filter that was plastic see thru, that you could just look at and see fuel drizzle down into plastic bowl or not. Getting a visual on fuel came in handy to see if any fuel problems going on. Like out of fuel, pump not working etc. ( I do have a fuel pressure gauge) never had a problem with cracking or leaking. I'm trying to find a system like that and small enough to fit up under bed near cab, next to airdog. Anybody know of a filter system that's fits that description?

Towing air bag recommendations
https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.genosgarage.com/downloads/InstallPDF/PacbrakeHP10019.pdf 2) Check the vehicle to see if it is equipped with a 5th Wheel Hitch. Some 5th wheel hitches require brackets to be mounted to the frame in the same locations as the air spring brackets (if this is the case, modifications of the 5th wheel hitch brackets may be required to mount this kit). Please contact Pacbrake at 800.663.0096) When I called them when I did mine and they were pretty good about info. But my final decision I just took off turn over ball brackets as we went to a trailer vs 5th wheel couple years before. If they use a shop/welder near them, might be worth it to just have them do what works best. . They are north of us in Vancouver BC Maybe you can even buy them from them. Saves shipping them from Vancouver BC to Geno's in Georgia and then back within 100 miles where they started from. While I've had no problems I have noticed that Firestone bags are available at more places than Pacbrake, if you ever need replacement. Mine are 2 separate lines, so air doesn't bleed over one side to another. Both valves come up underneath left side board. If I use a 12 volt air compressor, valves are close to cig lighter/compressor.

In your sig line you have turn over ball. I've got 3/4 ton and 2001 and not enough room for both lower bag brackets and turn over ball brackets. Maybe dually is different or year model might make a difference? Brand name was pacbrake from geno's. Other brands maybe ok, I dont know. Mine leaked, then i re-cut with actual tubing cutter and solved leaks, and haven't touched them in 5 or so years, no problems. My Tubing cutter is like plyiers with a razor blade built in. I used air brake tubing. Drilling into frame sure made me re-measure couple times before actually drilling. Not cheap but sure helps towing and good ride with 1000 pound tongue weight trailer. If none of the brands have enough room for you, I've seen some pic's online of handy work done by welders to get both on.

Precautionary travel items.
I didnt worry about anything in mine till I reached up about $3,000 in new lift pump, Towing , car rental and lousy mechanic. Now armed with this cite. Fsm in phone and lap top. And learned about a few things about our trucks. Before I got ripped off my thinking was why learn, these trucks as hardly ever break down so why take the time to learn about them? So today everything I need for full timing in RV. Few tools, rv supplies, wood working stuff, jewelry making stuff. Now if wife would get better medically, I would be where t-stat on rv heater doesn't come on.

Precautionary travel items.
With all the good people in idaho someone would stop and offer help. (Even if their idea of help was offering the their "only dodge" tool they have. Which was a pair of gloves so my hands dont get cold pushing on the tailgate. Wasn't to funny. Happened south of Owyhee area near jarbridge and duck valley years ago.

Precautionary travel items.
After you get spare carter pump practice putting it on just to make sure. I carry one so that I'm not subjected to the mechanic where I break down at. Not to mention good insurance, now my regular pump won't ever break

Personally I think there is a big difference bewteen long trips and remote trips. Remote trips...think more survival as in water and food and keeping warm. Long trips...2 credit cards, fsm in your phone. Back to remote. Nobody's going to bail you out except yourself. We have 4 day food supply under back seat and usually carry two 3 gallon water jugs. (I think @Mopar1973Man and I hit send button same time.) Anyway also depends your understanding of "remote"

Filling oil filter when changing oil?
@LiveOak Relay to your daughter a big thanks . My daughter is a nurse also but not 1 day of any service to our country and that deeply bugs us both. Myself and wife both retired military (mostly reserves) and she was my payclerk as an E-3 in the early 70's and after 44 years of marriage i guess she still is my payclerk Here is pic out of oil pressures right out of service manual. Notice at 2500 rpm there is 30 psi of oil pressure. That is not enough to make spinner work imo. Maybe others have more info, as I dont know much. But couple years ago I tried to find a spinner that worked at lower psi and couldn't find any.
