  1. So is that measuring the temp in inside the housing or outside? I guess what would be good to know is if the temp of the actual housing there or the air inside of it. I have a pyrometer for tires perhaps I can measure the turbo housing when it's all nice and hot. Not sure how high it goes I'll have to see about that.
  2. For sure. A fire extinguisher is a must. How hot does the turbine housing get? The factory air box was aplastic right?
  3. Sounds like a fun thing to try for sure.
  4. Actually it's a plastic trash can. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007G61OJM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 with some heat mat applied on the turbo side. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Heat-Shield-Mat-Belly-Fairing-Motorcycle-Insulation-for-hood-Fiberglass-Cotton/192390551180?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
  5. That's fun. I'm sure it made your truck go faster. I don't have good tools for aluminum. I may do an experiment and use your template to cut up a fire-resistant trash can and put some fire proof mat on the side where the turbo is.
  6. Hooray! Thank you!!! Have you ever seen anyone cut one out of a fire-resistant trash can? Seems like that might be relatively easy.
  7. I there a pattern for this somewhere? I can't seem to fit my BHAF into the K&N shield. I would like to make one of these but a pattern would sure be nice. I saw a link to one somewhere on this site but the link was not working.
  8. That was exactly what I was thinking when I decided to just leave them as built. If at some point some new motor mounts go in, the engine altitude would change and affect the geometry of those boots. I think those boots might just out live me :-)
  9. Those are good questions, I have no idea.. One of mine sprung a leak from rubbing on the fender edge (driver's side @ the intercooler.) My truck has just short of 100k miles on it so I decided to replace them all. They were all mushy. Perhaps it was overkill but I like it when things work as they were intended to and last as long as possible.
  10. Nice! 1970's Ford Bronco right? I believe the suspension on those was designed by Mickey Thompson. Big fun in deep mud and sand with the right flip flops.
  11. Will do thank you!!!! Not so easy peasy after all :-)
  12. Yes if the pressure drops below 5 PSI that light goes on. Just in case I'm listening to some reggae music and spacing out not paying attention to the fuel pressure gauge as I should LOL. It's the So Cal in me :-) Plugs in directly to the ECM with the stock plug, easy peasy. I'm thinking I'll eventually put a mechanical pump in, either running off the cam or the belt type pump that runs off the crank pulley. If I do that I may just have this run off a toggle from inside for priming and as a back up in case the belt breaks. This appears a solid solution with minimal intervention and cost for now. Better than the Carter pump anyways. 1/2" lines come next.
  13. Actually 3 got the low fuel pressure indicator light in. But these projects didn't start today only finished, well almost. I need to replace the line between the filter and the VP44 so get t tee's in for my fuel pressure gauge and warning light. I only have the guage connected at the moment, the light is ready to hook up but needs the T on the line for that. That run is a bit kludge right now just to get the fuel pressure tested and correted. I'll get with Eric # Vulcan on Monday to get those bits and then I'll drive it a bit and see how things are working before the next fun project. Last weekend was a valve adjustment.
  14. Mission accomplished. The Dragon roars again. Thanks all for the help and the laughs. Air Dog Raptor FRRP-100 in with fuel pressure @20PSI+/- The old Carter was giving me between 12-4 PSI :-( Hopefully the VP-44 doesn't Keel over soon, but if it does it won't be a big surprise at just under 100K miles. And if it has to be replaced soon at least the fuel pressure can sustain the life of a new one for awhile.
  15. And done! Thanks everyone for the tips and tricks!
  16. Great bunch of yay hoos!!! I'm totally "stoked" (yes I was born in So Cal) I found ya'll. I have a genetic mutation when it comes to cars and machines. Most think me odd but when I find people with the same mutation I feel right at home. You guys get it... Seriously this group is making my new old truck exponentially more fun to work on and have. Much appreciated.
  17. You people are both entertaining and helpful. I think they call that edutainment. Whatever it's called you guys rock. Thanks!!!!!
  18. How cool boiling water, used to deliver a baby or install a blue hose LOL That's awesome thank you!!!
  19. I'm putting in an Airdog FRRP-100 and having a helluva time getting the 1/2 line to go onto the barb fittings. I oiled them per the instructions with some fresh engine oil and can only get them on so far. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
