  1. Why no to Amsoil? With the extended drain intervals you will actually SAVE money. One thing to note is Mopar ATF+4 is almost $2 a quart LESS at WalMart than Amsoil ATF.
  2. It could be in the transmission. I doubt that it is the converter though. The converter is a fluid coupling until it locks (4th gear). The only way for it to shudder they way you say it does is to be low on fluid. I have never heard of a band slipping and causing a shudder either. Seems they either slip or they don't. There is a possibility that it is the APPS. That is what the computer looks at to see where the position of your foot is to tell the VP how much fuel to allow for injection. Use an ANALOG meter to check how smooth the APPS reads. The needle on the meter should sweep without any fluctuation. A digital meter won't show the little 'bumps' that you will see with analog. Have you scanned the truck for code(s)? Most auto parts stores can scan it for you. Keep us informed.
  3. That is 100% true. I have tried to put '02 alum. wheels on drum and they do not fit the front either. I have a set of steel wheels off of another one with disk in the rear and they won't fit on either end of a truck with drum brakes.
  4. I *think* that you can jump a wire (black one?) to ground in the OBDII port and the ABS light will flash codes. I need to check to see what I can find out I guess.
  5. Are you sure it is a transmission issue? Is the any possibility of the shudder being a miss in the engine (like a VP problem)?
  6. I think you would be looking at scrap prices for that......
  7. Speedometer works just like normal, smooth as silk. I had some brake issues earlier this year and fooled around with some of the wiring for the ABS under the hood, so maybe I should look there. 3/4" black electrical tape covers up the light just perfect and fits right so I kind of forgot about it 'til tonight....edit: How does a person get the ABS code(s) out with out a scanner? I know there is a way to do it, just don't know the particulars....
  8. Ya suppose that the warranty is going to be denied??
  9. I have a DaveG tranny and today it acted strange. The outside temp was 12* and it did not want to shift out of second gear (2000RPM, 48MPH) until I went about a mile. It then would not go into O/D until another mile. Warmer weather it is fine. Any ideas?
  10. Hey guys, the ABS light has been on on my '96 2wd for most of the summer. It has just RWAL. I pulled the sensor on the rear end and made sure it was clean (it was). I also made sure the connector was on good. Where else should I look?
  11. She can be quite intimidating to a lot of people!! Sarcasm comes real easily from her....
  12. Shouldn't have to wait long. On the 12v there is a hose that bypasses the t'stat that works well for bleeding the block. Not sure on the 24 valve though. I seem to recall there is a pipe plug close to the front of the head that can be removed to bleed the air.
  13. I know there is one plugged port, but that is right off the oil pump. I like using the place that the sending unit is because that is what is left after lubing the entire engine just like the factory gauge.
  14. Yea there is. It is on the drivers side on the back of the radiator. It is only a small drain that uses 3/8" tubing. Maybe drain the antifreeze with the drain then pull the lower hose (at the radiator) if you want to flush the system.
  15. Nope, not married, gonna be 22 next month, going to college (psych major!!), and planning to go to post graduate school!! SHE decided what truck she wanted, not me.......
  16. I know this is somewhat of an old thread, but to me it looks to more of a mechanical failure than pressure. The compressor would do that if there was a BIG slug of liquid enter it. If there was vapor (like it is supposed to have) then the compressor would just compress it. For a big slug of liquid to enter the compressor the system MAY have been low, kicked out on the low pressure switch, and the can upside down to allow liquid from the can to enter the system. Once the liquid in the system started to boil it would increase the pressure to allow the low pressure switch to make turning the comp. on and try to compress liquid.
  17. I was under the impression that they were all 35 gallon tanks on the diesels. I know there is a 25 gallon tank on the gassers, but not certain about any others. My daughter has a 1998 12v QC/SB and it has the same size as my '96 CC/LB. Are you going by the fuel gauge for empty? Those gauges are notorious for going screwy..........
  18. Sounds like "revenue enhancement" to me..... But Richie is right. Any second gen body style will fit on your truck including the whole cab!!
  19. The 12v t'stat is horizontal and a smaller diameter also. If you do pull it you will have lots of room for a garden hose. You will need to pull the upper bracket for the alternator to access the three bolts for the t'stat though.
  20. Nylon tubing has been used for years without issue. Even if it did spring a leak you could shut the engine down long before you could open the hood and shut the valve.
  21. Do the heater hoses get warm? They both should get warm no matter where you have the heat control. It could also be a blend door issue too. This will explain what is involved with the blend door: http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2003/24-004-03.htm
  22. What is a cracked throttle body? There is no such thing on a diesel far as I know.
  23. What is the purpose of the needle valve on an oil pressure gauge? You can also pull the sender and put a "T" fitting in so that you can have the factory gauge along with the mechanical and both will see the same pressure.
  24. That sounds like good advise. If the springs are too tight then the idle wants to climb. Just make sure the nuts are adjusted the same.
