advice on rv or 5th wheel
Trailer really does need to be a lot lighter going home as there are 2 pulls at 1 in 3 or 33 % within 8 miles of where we parked luckily quite short but after that 2 25% downs and one is 3 miles.... come up that last friday.. Truck has developed a bad power steer/power brake leak on one brake accumlator line so not looking forward to the 25 for 3. Most roads are just too small once off of the mains Best thing is mostly NO phone signal

advice on rv or 5th wheel
Well I did think I'd got it all packed and good to go..... tools, water, lpg, beer, shorts, tees, boots, music.....oh and more beer.... wife added 3 houses worth tonight, I didn't realise our house contained so much rubbish.... well to be fair our house does not NOW contain any junk whatsoever it is all parked just behind my truck in a 4 wheeled very large shed that my truck has to tow 160 miles...... got my own back hooking up the Snap On Modis......other half asks "whats that for" err "Just in case it goes bang" the look of sheer panick was priceless. I need to invite a certain Mr Armstrong along for the ride as whats packed I'm sure we're going to the moon

It's now all cleaned and packed ready for a week in the North Yorkshire moors, off on Friday, North Yorks is 160 miles from me, yeah I know you guys would drive home every night but don't forget we're a tiny island and thats a drive here AND diesel is £6 a gallon, going to be parked 3 miles from the sea, hoping to get up to Lindisfarne (the holy island) but you can only get across twice a day and my truck aint going in no seawater, also several places to whale/ dolphin watch and it's the capital of the world for English fish and chips 2 more days at the grindstone then tools in the truck and off

Thats an old Cummins NTA 855 deal.... they used to suffer big time from liner worm and had the filters installed from the factory but I'd say now coolants are better and there is also sampling there is no need for a DCA filter, the filter removes some but if it's as bad as the pictures above then the filter will be useless, the DCA bit just keeps the coolant at the best PH level . Need to be plumbed into a good flow line, think from memory the lines were 1/2"..... not too sure how the heater lines would work if plumbed into those I do know on a NTA855 the lines were all figured for the filter. Easier to back flush lots then use Cat coolant... job done.... Cat C7,C9,C18,C32 all do not have a filter or use DCA and the coolant stays in for years while being sampled every so often

fuel pressure gauge
I did in 2004, shut in 2009 at the last downturn, lost my shirt and only just got straight about 2 years ago. Thing is I was supplying Ram front brakes to a company that was building a military vehicle for use in afganistan. I was shipping a 100 calipers and 100 sets of pads about twice a month, company over there send 100 wrong so I own it. Still got 100 pads to this day

in-tank lift pump
I take it thats in the winter..... what temps ?? if you are using fuel additives in the recommended quantities for the temps then have you checked for water in fuel, is the gel dark slime that sort of doesn't mix with the fuel, if so it's water, the fuel system gets bacteria which makes the gel, this will block any filter even in the summer never mind winter, if you do see any anywhere spray it with brake cleaner, if it freezes it's water and needs to be removed

Timbo APPS
mine threw a code... can't remember what it was now ...... in basic english something like "out of range" but the check engine was on, this would clear, code gone and be fine UNTIL pedal was pressed to a certain point then it would come back on every time, I have a very old Bowser Electronics pc program that I used and checked voltages from the apps, it did what it was supposed to do until this certain point then went haywire for a small portion of pedal then came back as if nothing had happened, truck ran nearly ok above and below the point but threw the light on which bugged me so I got a new apps and as I said before the new one did plug straight in to the harness, the previous one had some harness adaptor rubbish which just screamed "i'm not really made for a ram but I'm trying my best". I did check it more once it was off the truck and at one point in it's travel it looked like some little guy in a pointed hat had just forgot to add a peice as it's output just went for a walk somewhere and then reappeared at the correct voltage, it's in the truck as it would get me home if needed can you have a code reader connected when it has dead pedal ?? I have Bowser, Snap On MT2500 and Snap On Modis Ultra and all 3 do well on my 5.9 gas 3500, maybe with Bowser having the edge.... 2500 cummins totally different, pants on the engine and pants on the rest.... I need what Chris O has got forgot to add both are 98

weird braking/steering issue
Is the caliper sliders free ? Piston could be seized or sliders and as Hag says pressurized check hydraulic side ...... not pressurized check for something sticking/seized

Radiator flush
It comes in a gallon our price here is £39 Cat part number is 4C-4611. Its drain the system put in cleaner to the amount it says on container for cooling system capacity run for 90 minutes or more depending on the state of system but don't leave it in for days, then drain and refill. I backflushed heater and then complete system at this point then refilled with cat premixed coolant which has the correct PH. I have Cat refractometer and cat concentrate to add if ever needed. Deposits end up like clay water that just washes away
-
Radiator flush
I use nothing but Cat premixed coolant, never have used anything else in anything and never will, I test with refractometer once in a while and send samples off for test also but I use it in my job so no cost. Been in my 3500 since 04 might have changed it twice I flushed my 2500 earlier this year when I first bought it with Cat cooling system cleaner because of poor heater temps and changed thermostat from 180 to 190, i'm now going back to 180 as heater is baking

Timbo APPS
Me too. Truck ran terrible with a dead area on the pedal, PO had fitted pos chinese copy which cost $14. I hadn't found this site at this point so I just bought another more expensive but at least it connected correctly without an adaptor harness. Been ok for over a year and I have the pos one as a get home spare and when that happens it will get a timbo

3500 rear axle into 2500
Yes it might be easier to replace VP here as more stuff uses it

3500 rear axle into 2500
Thanks... measurements are useful just to know what I'm looking for but again I may as well be on the moon for some of this stuff, none of these trucks get wrecked here and if they do it's such a small amount that you never get the chance to buy anything, I've saw one wrecked on ebay for parts in maybe 10 years or more and it was petrol and prices were way high, $200 just for a door card. I think I've decided to fix my dually, it's 5.9 petrol but that may work in it's favour here in the future as this country/EU has a real downer on with diesel and it's classed as the scourge of the planet and of course every living thing on the planet is going to die the instance a diesel is started ESPECIALLY a huge American diesel........ eerr no, my 2500 cummins is 80% lower emissions than allowed by the EU for the year of my truck and my 3500 petrol doesn't even register on the tester. So now the hunt is on for front door repair panels that the shipping to the UK is less than the sheet metal

AC Replacement
But you are geared up for it..... A/C everywhere. I spent a month in Waco about 7 or 8 years ago, I'm baking but the guys I'm working with who live in Waco had their coats on. And said it was too cold to put the Big *** Fans on in the roof, they actually had the building heating on in the mornings ?This was at a caterpillar distribution warehouse. Thing is here in the UK we get temperate so not hot and not cold..... just nice.. when we do get outside the norm either up or down country justs stops working right ☺
-
AC Replacement
Yes 2nd hottest day ever recorded here hottest was in 2003, it was down to tenths of a degree though, we're usually seeing 70's tops which is just right not 90's, its horrible but supposed to cool today

AC Replacement
Vac 100 times more than you think is good especially if it's not a brand new unfilled system, I used to work for Caterpillar. Large repairs on the backhoe line in the UK straight off of the line, which was taken away from Clayton (sorry not my deal) standard work was vac for 15 minutes, then when backhoes came back to PDI and repair A/C wouldn't reach temps, Vac for 15 fill back up and the same deal in 2 days, if vac is applied and the gas is removed then the drier (thats what it's called here) looks like a bomb gets covered in frost as the moisture in the system is boiled off and it takes heat from it's surroundings to boil in the lower pressures hence the frost, this pressure increase can and does look like a vac leak, gas is gone and pressure is at a minus, you're checking gauges looking for an increase to signify a vac leak and the pressure goes up....... system has to have a leak.... NO not until the drier is frost free this is the point when there is no more moisture in the system which as it boils is just a gas not meaning to tell your granny how to suck eggs as you guys know more about A/C than us in the cold UK, although today it's been 38C here
