  1. And here in good ole Cali east (PA) that 6% gets added every time the truck gets sold. So if the truck gets sold 4 times in it's life the state collects 6% off of every sale. Oh, and in case you would think about cheating on the selling price we have a fair market value law now. They use NADA to value the truck which in my experience in the highest there is. If you sell for less you have to fill out and sign an affidavit. But then again we have the highest fuel taxes in the nation so it's only right. This may apply to other states as well, don't know. Sorry to make you again.
  2. That makes me sad. I thought NAPA was WIX and that WIX was good. Discussions like this can drive a guy nuts. Kinda like if a butcher told you what went into a hot dog you'd never eat another hot dog again. Until then it tastes pretty good.
  3. I bought new Spicer axle joints (SPL55X?) to put in when I bought the other ball joints. All sealed which is what I wanted. Figured the originals had 135K so might as well replace. The were so good that I left them in. Really glad I didn't change them now. Might turn the new ones into paper weights. When I got married 19 years ago the in laws offered up their old fridge. Wife declined because of color but I said I'll take it for the garage. To this day it's still chugging away keeping my beer cold while we're on the 3rd new one in the house, or 1 every 6-7 years which seems normal for TV and appliances nowadays. Like I said, what a shame.
  4. Hopefully. Seeing where they were made certainly gives me doubts. Time will tell.
  5. Like saying Obama is better than Hillary.
  6. Got the Delco's put in over the weekend. Install was easy enough being it was apart not long ago. Recieved fro Rock Auto 24 hrs. after purchase. They're great to deal with. Was a little disappointed when I opened the box though. What I wanted to see. What I didn't want to see. Nothing more American than apple pie and Chevrolet they used to say. And yet Generous Motors signature brand is made in Taiwan. How sad. Below is a video of the 12k mile Spicer upped joint. 100_3431.MOV
  7. Wow. I screwed that one up! I did not mean never fails to disappoint, I meant never disappoints. Now , back to my track bar.
  8. Not doubting Dripley at all, but I had never heard about the shutdown delay so I had to try. I shut mine off and as soon as the shaking stopped I rolled it right back to start and it fired right up. That being said I have a 99 and have been made aware of several different changes in programming between the early and later years as I continue to study these sometimes finicky trucks.
  9. @GSP7 never fails to dissapoint! I need to do a trac bar this weekend. Looks like the 'mechanic' in that one pic knows what shes doing. Wish I had her number. Could always use the help.
  10. Hmmmm. They will run without a LP. Not saying it's good though. That's how so many ruined VP's in the beginning. The stock Carter would die and they wouldn't know it because no body ran FP gauges back then. The truck would keep on going, sometimes for quite a while starving the VP of fuel and lubrication until it died. So it's not shutting down because the LP quits. Your wired directly to the factory harness with no relay so when the LP quits it's because it's losing it's power that is being supplied directly from the ECM. Several things are on that circuit for lack of a better word. LP power, WTS light, and most importantly a fueling signal to the PSG computer on the VP44. If you LP dies I'm guessing it's because the ECM is flaking out and basically turning off the fuel to the VP. In my experience this happens at startup though and not when the truck is running. When my ECM began to fail I had no codes to go along with it. Are you sure that ECM is OK? I would pull the LP power from somewhere else and take it off the factory harness so the ECM is not taking that draw. Even if you just hot wire it for now and put it on a switch with a relay for testing purposes. My thought is the ECM is overheating due to the draw of the LP and then quits until it cools down or something along those lines. Hope that makes sense and helps.
  11. Now I really envy you. Around here you need a permit to put a pre built storage shed in. And you need to get a storm water runoff plan approved for anything larger than a doghouse. No un-registered vehicles are allowed to sit outside. Registering means insurance and inspection and altering the frame would require a special enhanced reconstructed inspection. We're not far from Cali., but we're getting better. Years ago you couldn't burn trash on Monday because that was wash day. They fixed that by outlawing washlines in all but the most remote places. A trespasser could hang themselves on your washline if they didn't know it's there. No matter now since burning has been outlawed as of 2 years ago. Sorry for the rant. Enjoy the site. There's a picture thread up in the 2nd Gen. section. It would be a good place for your truck pictures. Nice car by the way
  12. I love Texas. If you tried a project like that in a neighborhood setting around here the stack of permits required would be taller than the 2 feet of frame you torched off! Nice job by the way, You don't have to worry about anyone under 5'9" ever stealing that lifted one. Couldn't climb in.
  13. Trouble with most of them is they are only 5 or 7 psi lights which is already too low. Now an Isspro EV2 series gauge is programmable via a usb cable to whatever psi you want. Of course it's not the cheapest setup out there but few that I know of have had any trouble with them. I don't have the EV2 but pretty sure @Mopar1973Man does and he can tell you more. Like I said above though, it's easy and cheap enough on your 99 to screw a hydraulic gauge into the test port on the filter housing and at least you'll know the pressure for now.
  14. If I had the truck in your avatar to run I wouldn't be in a rush either. That thing is schaweeeeet!
  15. Understood. Most times I think too slow.
  16. So you don't have a lift pump relay. That's one of those that plugs into the factory plug directly. Well, that kills my theory. Yeah, still find out the FP though. I see you have a 99. There's 2 brass plugs on top of the filter housing. You can put an 1/8" NPT liquid filled hydraulic gauge in the on giong to the VP and it will show you accurate pressure if you don't have $$ for a gauge setup right now. I ran like that for a while. Dripley and I were typing at the same time. He's faster.
  17. Agreed. I was thinking lift pump relay. I believe you meant NOT best for the ECM
  18. I agree with @Marcus2000monsteron FP and filter. Don't know if Airtex has its own return to tank or not? If you're heating up an blowing relays that pump is working hard. Pushing up against a plugged filter would do that. So it trickles a bit of fuel through the filter until the truck starts and runs then pops the relay. The VP44's little internal pump can't suck enough through the plugged filter and the truck shuts off. It's gotta be fuel related. Nothing else kills a diesel. And I'm thinking mechanical fuel related because if it were electrical, ie ECM, PSG, CKP senor etc. you should have a code or 3. It's easy to look at the filter. And get a FP gauge on there ASAP. My $.02
  19. Where there's a will..................................
  20. AC Delco professionals on order from Rock Auto. Luckily they had just sent me a discount code. See how they hold up.
  21. Was going to put NAPA's in put looking at the pics it appears all the uppers are splined . The search continues.
  22. Time for another one of @GSP7's fender covers
  23. Just be glad Katoom posted what he did. That's the only picture of his truck known to exist in the internet .
  24. At least you and I don't have to worry about losing laps. Just beer and money and blood.
