Tire Prices!!!
I recently bought 5 new vision rims in 19.5 and got them for $180 each. :-) Now I am looking for tires to put on them. I have a quote for 5 Hankook DH101's in 245x70x19.5 in LRG that is less than $1400 mounted and balanced, but I am hesitant on pulling the trigger because I have seen mixed reviews on the mileage some people are getting with them on there truck. Actually I am not sure how much weight to put into online product reviews. Haven't been able to find anyone that has personally run them. So I am still looking and hoping to find a good deal on tires but I know that is wishful thinking.

You can buy them individually or they make them in some kits also. I couldn't see any price difference per item regardless if you bought them individually or in kit form. https://www.buyairtab.com/

$85 Dollar Experiment
My first tank was my hunting trip to Montana. 625 miles one way. On winter fuel. Last year the exact same trip (and driving style) netted me 19.34mpg (hand calculated). This year the trip netted me 20.4 mpg. (note: I have new 50hp injectors this year and in reality that may be the major reason why the mpgs were better this year) I am on the second tank now but it is driving to and from camp and errands to town so this tank won't be useful as a data source at all. Trip home I would expect to gain some more comparison data. I had a fair amount of rain and windy weather on the way up which was different from my trip last year. With the rain and slush etc., my rear window did not stay clean as it got lots of spray from the wheels and back of the truck. Did not have any buffeting at hiway speeds or when passing big rigs. :-) I have not been able to identify any other benefit at this point. But I also didn't expect too because I have so little driving time with these vg's.

Still working on data collection. Only on the 2nd tank of fuel.

Bushwaker fender flares
3M makes a double sided foam tape in various widths that should work for this project. It is used by many automakers to install trim and other accessories to vehicles.I get mine online or at the local automotive paint store. There may be other sources as well.

Hot Battery
Did not know this! I have no personal experience with this problem but it is getting logged away for future reference if needed.

Another twist to the ammo shortages..
I am here in Kalispel Montana now and went to the new Cabelas store that just opened on November 7th. No shortage of Ammo in this store. They stock the shelves with far more pistol ammo than rifle ammo. The 22 caliber stuff is stocked in the morning and it is cleaned out in less than one hour in each of the last two mornings. They are allowing only one brick (500) or one bucket (1400) person. All the rest of the ammo remains on the shelves. Lots of 9mm stuff. There are some good sale prices on 9mm and 223.

$3.49
I am in Montana now and just fueled up for 3.52 in Kalispel. Gas is $3.03 for regular. I wish it was like this back home in Idaho.

Finally made the leap..
So based on your description I think you are about to become a Upper (youper).I have a son that lives in the UP and they describe it as living where people like to vacation.Good luck with the new venture.

Ya, before it's done it will be killing you in more than one way. :-(

The Airtabs come in white or black only. So I got the white ones and painted them to match the truck and cap.

HX35 with automatic. At what RPM does she start to spool?
Looks like you already have injectors so that will help. The size of the HX turbine exhaust housing you use will also make a difference. I run the HX 35/40 hybrid and with RV275 injectors and Quadzilla XZT and I can smoke the tires from a dead stop (not a boosted launch).

$85 Dollar Experiment
I am still hunting around for ways to increase mpgs. I have unloaded my camper for the season and have my Leer canopy back on the truck. So I have decided to conduct another experiment by installing vortex generators on the canopy to see if I can gain any benefit.I use vortex generators on my plane to give me a lower stall speed and still maintain control of the airplane and keep it flying at lower speeds. The vortex generators create a turbulent air stream aft of the generators and that keeps the air attached to the wing at higher angles of attack (steeper pitch of the wing). The theory is that vortex generators on a truck canopy will create spiraling turbulent air that will stay attached to the surface of the canopy and bend around the end and sides to break up the vacuum drag that the truck creates as it travels down the road. This vacuum pocket pulls on the back of the truck creating a drag on the truck. To overcome this drag requires more hp (fuel). Therefore, if I can reduce this drag somewhat I might be able to realize a small increase in mpgs. So I have invested about $85 to buy the vortex generators and paint them and install them on my canopy.Reports from others that have tried installing AirTabs (vortex generators) have yielded improved road handling in high winds and when large trucks pass you (eliminates the buffeting) in all cases. But when it came to seeing an increase in mpgs the results were a mixed bag. Some saw measureable improvements while others didn't see any improvement in mpgs or the improvement was so small in wasn't really measurable. But I spent the $85 so I am going to try it out for my truck and my driving style.

TDI
I have a 2001 with 5spd that I bought new. Has 138k on it now. I have mine chipped and that improves the get up and go.Helps the mpgs a little as well. Only had four problems with mine. Had to replace 3 window regulators (all under warranty), replaced the brake light switch three times (2 under warranty and one out of warranty but the quality problem appears to be fixed)(when the brake light switch goes bad you loose cruise control), lost the mass flow sensor (under warranty) and had to replace the drivers door lock assembly (wished that one was under warranty). That's the sum total in 13 years. That was my work commuter car and now that I'm retired it is used for errands and misc. Probably will last until they put me in a pine box.

No Backup Lights
Ya, I did the obvious, like check the bulbs and fuse but still had no lights. I also looked for skinned or kinked wires but didn't see anything obvious. Will look at the switch after I check the jumper wire to verify the circuit is good.

No Backup Lights
The backup lights on my 2nd gen truck don't work.So naturally I thought the bulbs were burned out. When I checked I found both bulbs were good.I am guessing that there must be a backup light switch some where in or on the auto tranny. When I tried to look up backup light switches at Geno's or Rock AutoI can find switches for the manual trans but not the auto.Maybe the switch is mounted internally in the trans????Anyone know where this switch is and if it is replaceable without pulling the trans apart?Should I be looking for some other possible culprit for my backup light problem?

Looking at going to 19.5" wheels and tires.
I am considering going to 19.5s on my 3rd gen 3500 4x4. Looking for higher weight carrying capacity than I can get in the 17" wheel and tire combo. I am currently running Michelin LTX 2 and am very pleased with the traction I get in wet, snow and ice and am very concerned in finding something in a 19.5 traction tire that will at least provide a reasonable amount of traction. I am thinking I need an open shoulder style rather than a closed shoulder style.I am considering the Vision 81 machined aluminum wheel which is rated for 5k pounds. Looking at several brands of tires (Double Coin RLB1, Cooper Roadmaster rm253, Toyo 608, Yokahama TY303, Hankook DH01) to name a few of the more reasonably priced 245/70/19.5. Anyone had any experience on 19.5 traction tires (good or bad) that you are willing to share. What are good brands to consider. Most truck tires are getting pretty high mileage (I am told 80k-120k) so I would expect the tires to time out from age rather than wear out due to mileage.I know the sidewalls will be stiff and the ride will be more rough when I am not loaded but I am hoping to stay away from tires that's sing too much or are not reliable.Any input?
