  1. Mike,Can you elaborate the "under load cold" statement???? IOW's is he starting the truck up cold with the toy hauler loaded to gills and driving away without a warm up????:smart:My normal routine when getting going in the AM is to start the truck, back out of my garage, turn around, back up and hitch up my trailer. I then close my garage door, lock it, get back in truck and drive away. Usually under 5 minutes. That said, even with the stupid hot/humid weather we've had here, my truck is not to operating temp...............but it has had enough time to get oil everywhere etc.!!! When I drive away, it's noticeably more "noisy" vs. when she's fully up to operating temp.Is this what he's hearing???The above is also true if I just back out of my garage, close it, lock it and drive away without a trailer. Truck is louder because she's not up to operating temp.:smart:Disclaimer....................This is my truck; your truck my vary!!!
  2. But no spinning driveshaft!! I agree that it probably won't help the above 2 guys much, if at all, mileage wise..................but if something gets FUBARed, you can always disconnect the hubs and still drive. If your CAD quits one day and/or you blow a front u-joint..............you can still drive with lock-out hubs. With my '04.5; which had everything turning up front prior to the "free-spin" kit, I can honestly say I've picked up 1-1.5mpg in my everyday driving since the install in July last year. Almost 24,000 miles on Mighty Whitey since the install.
  3. It's usually easier to haul the splitter to the trees than vise versa!!!!! I'd give Michael's left nut for a big load of hickory!!!!
  4. Now......it is!! Thanks!!:thumbup2: As much as I'm a big time Smarty fan....................I have a real hard time believing this video!!!!:banghead:
  5. More "wood" is never a bad thing to have!!!!
  6. Mike; are you getting caught up???:whistle:I've got almost 7 full cords CSS...............cut, split, stacked now. I only used just under 3 full cords last year. I'm a greedy SOB...............I wanna get "ahead" in my wood gathering..............as all of my wood that I scrounge is "HARD"...............and take time to dry/season. Just in case I cannot gather wood for a time...................I know I have it then!!:thumbup2:Just a wondering!!!
  7. Stuffed the tank full this afternoon. 31.3xx gallons with 635.xx miles on the tanks of fuel.Came out to 20.1x MPG!!!Just ordered filters............oil(OEM), fuel(OEM+FF5320), OEM air filter, and a crankcase filter from Geno's Garage. For me it's cheaper to pay the shipping from ONE PLACE, rather than drive around finding these items.I'm almost tempted not to change anything..................as I've not had a tank of fuel average under 20mpg since late winter/early spring!!! But it needs to be done...............and I normally do it now; just a few weeks before my annual hunting trip to NoDak!!!Just bragging a bit.................not saying!!!!
  8. You don't mention any "MODS".............are there any???
  9. Must be "proprietary" if'n y'all won't share the info!!!! Just saying.....................not arguing!!
  10. For the "non-FB" inclined...................What Happened????
  11. Wasn't there a similar tranny in the late 50's-60's era???!!There was no gear shifts............just progressive final ratio change based on............"I don't know"!!! I'm going off memories from an old timer that lived next to us while I was growing up.I could be totally wrong................but he said that there were no "shifts" in this tranny from the era I said above.Help please!!!
  12. I don't think I have 6 quarts in mine; but the last time I changed out fluid, I drove the drivers side of my truck up on about 4 inch blocks so I could get a bit more in. I probably have close to 6 quarts in my NV5600, but not over, and 192+k miles on her now!!
  13. Or to change the air in your tires seasonally. You can't run summer air in your tires in the winter/cold months.
  14. Well worth the 4+minutes!!!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyBap-T4ZDU
  15. Mike; you're surrounded by the looks of the map!! How close are the fires to you??:smart:You're in my prayers that nothing happens to you!!
  16. Mike, there's still a bit more wood from where this came from. It started raining, so I quit cutting and hauling. No need for a truck when the pile you see in the pix is less than 150 feet from where it was felled and where I cut it into rounds!!! The base/trunk of this maple is close to 28"..........or the length of the bar on my chainsaw. Many of the rounds in the pix are 12-18" in diameter. Gotta line on another tree/tree's..................but that'll be a cool/cold weather endeavor!!! Cutting and bucking in the summer sucks!!!
  17. Killer..........the tomatoes are all mine!!! I've only gotten a few so far.........but they are really tasty!!!!
  18. The neighbor behind me finally got the "tree guys" out to take down a silver maple that was hanging over their house. I was planning on working today; but I had a light week, so I took the day to cut and gather this instead!!! I got probably 85% of the big stuff. Marvin, the owner, said the other neighbor wanted the smaller stuff..........under 4-5"..... so I left that in long lengths..................just to make sure he really wants it!!!! There's still the main trunk of the tree left to cut up/noodle!! Marvin had them, the tree guys, just drop the tree. I'll help him haul the brush to the street-side so the township can chipper-shread it once the big stuff is cut and hauled. I figure I pulled an easy full cord if not more. The brown dogs in the pix give some scale. About 12 wheel-barrows and 125 feet to where I dumped it. Free and close is good!!! - - - Updated - - - Sorry, here's the pix. They didn't take the first time!!! And it's silver maple............a soft "hard-wood" that splits easy and dries fast. It's for next winter.
  19. What are they doing to the auto-trannys that they can take the torque now??? For years and years, they "de-tuned" the mighty Cummins to keep the autos from being destroyed by the Cummins torque.
  20. That's good to see. I change out my OEM and my 2 micron secondary FF's yearly. Usually in Sept. before I go on my annual NoDak hunting trip. Never have had a problem.
  21. How much "head" or "drop" do you have in your system Mike??? That's a serious question!!
  22. But the question would be this.....................where??!!:banghead: Probably have to tear the dash out, hey??
  23. Way better than 9th out of only 8!!!!!! Don't think I'd do that deliberately though!!! Just saying...........of course!!
