01 6 spd Vs. 01 5spd
I think the reason you "noticed" the load was because of the 3:55 gears. The difference between the 2 gear sets may only be 300rpm, but you must remember the "TORQUE"!!!!! The 4:10's have much more easily gettable torque at lower rpm's than the 3:55's. I don't remember how much off hand, but AH64IUD posted it a while back..........20-30% maybe IIRC.:shrug:1st, 4th, and 5th are the same ratios as 1st, 5th, and 6th between the trannies. New Ventures added a gear in the NV5600 so that there wasn't such a large rpm drop off between the other gears whilst towing big loads. The difference you noticed was in the rear IMNTBHO!!

Oil Analysis
drscott,If'n you think you're making oil (via leaking injectors) I wouldn't be driving that truck around until an analysis is done to confirm it!! Just saying.Joe

Spring time mods/maintenance for your truck...
Do you have the proper ball joint press???Do you have the right sized sockets to get the OEM axle nut off, and to tighten the new one up???Do you have a press to get the old u-joints out and install the new ones???Breaker bar, PB Blaster, good quality grease, torque wrench, and a BFH???Another set of hands will help out hugely for doing the free spin hub kit, and probably the ball joints.

Greese Zert
Most likely whatever greasables you can get from NAPA. That's where the shop gets most of their stuff.
-
Greese Zert
My '04.5 that I bought new had sealed tie rod ends. Replaced the OEM's at 71,000 miles, and the greasables have been good since.

Spring time mods/maintenance for your truck...
I'm gonna find that cold weather fuel leak that's been bothering me for the last couple months. It's totally temperature related.........if it gets below 15 degrees, she leaks........above that nothing. It's still been enough to "coat" the fuel filter canister and the fuel lines and the control arms. It's not leaking enough for an effect on mileage either!!!:smart:I'm gonna wash down the engine prior to this.........that's why I was asking about cleaners and such in that other thread.Change oil and filters, change fuel filters, grease everything about every 3-5,000 miles, wash the salt of Mighty Whitey, and clean the inside out as it's pretty "gamey" inside there now!!! Nothing real pressing as of now, other than regular maintenance.I've done everything you've said in your post save for the sway bar end links.....................some of them more than once!!!! You'll like the free spin hub kit. I truly believe I've picked up 1-1.5mpg with it since the install last July. I've also got almost 100,000 more miles on my truck than you do yours!!! 183,4xx on Mighty Whitey as of today.

How Many Are Running The Fluid Damper?
What is "gear rollover"??? That's a term I've not heard before. 183,000+ on Mighty Whitey now.

Vacuum Advise
Thanks guys!!Quick question for y'all though.................When your vacuum looses suction; does it then suck????
-
Vacuum Advise
What's the best reasonably priced vacuum y'all can recommend to me?? My current one is about 10 years old and I've never really liked it from day 1. As of now, it's last legs and doesn't suck so well any more. That's a serious observation also!!!! Thanks in advance.

u-joints
Not doubting you one bit here. I've read all the same about sealed u-joints being stronger and all..................but my OEM sealed units and then the 2 sets of greaseables all lasted pretty close to the same time and same miles!!!! I truly believe it's due to the over use of salt and other chemicals they use on the roads here in the "rust belt" in the winter, and the fact that 3rd gens turn tighter than 2nd gens and because I do a lot of slow speed backing of trailers where I work. As I said prior, a CV joint is much better for tight turns.........but could it handle Cummins low end torque???

Wowww
I posted the same link a while back. Not that I care; as it's good to see again!!!!! :thumb1:IMHO, he needs to change the lyrics of his song. Johnson and Evinrude are owned by the same parent company. He should substitute Yamaha, Suzuki, and/or Mercury for Evinrude in his song. She's welcome in my boat with my 50HP Evinrude anytime!! Long shaft also!!

Tire Update
As of today, I've got right at 29,000 miles on my Cooper Discoverer AT3's which I bought in late Oct. of 2011. Based on the minimal wear; I should easily get 75-80,000 miles out of them.........if not more.

Wowww
Very cool!!! If'n there was a "wipe out" in that video; I was gonna ask if that was you, ISX, behind the wheel!!!!!! What some folks do for.................whatever...............

Transfer case blow up
Pepe, I've got the SpynTec free spin hub kit on my '04.5. Installed it in July with the help of a Bud of mine. Not hard, just time consuming due to the size of the parts involved. My kit has Mile Marker hubs. They've been great so far; I've put almost 14,000 miles on since the install. The kit I got cost $1550+tax+shipping IIRC.

SEMO Trip Report
Owed a "99 regular cab 4x4 5 speed that I bought brand new and put 142,000+ miles on in under 5 years!!!!! Then I bought my current truck!!! In all honesty; I truly get better mileage from my '04.5 than I did my '99!! Especially since the Edge J/A and then now with the Smarty Revo SO-6!!!

Where are you located in Wisconsin??? I live only 5 miles South of the cheddar curtain in, "The Peoples Republic of Illinois". Michael, I find cutting and gathering and splitting firewood relaxing. Sure, it's work, but I enjoy it........so it's really not "work".............if you know what I mean!!
